CalRobbo341
Just got a new frame in the post, has 110mm spaced dropouts so with the Echo TR hub, I have to use spacers. I had a quick go of fitting it earlier and the disc side bolt and washer has gotten stuck, I don't have a clue how.. How can I loosen it so I can make it work. I tried tightening the other one and then loosening the the stuck one, but that just seems to loosen the not stuck one. I am guessing the obvious answer is going to be put it in a vice? The one I have is in a certain position where I can't fit my wheel... Cheers! Edited June 5, 2012 by CalRobbo341

CalRobbo341
Comp 2010. Its more of a question about the hub bolt being stuck.
isitafox
with the Echo TR hub, I have to use spacers............. the disc side bolt and washer has gotten stuck I don't understand what you mean by the above. Do you mean you started screwing in the non driveside bolt and it's got stuck in the axle??
CalRobbo341
Yes.. As I am guessing it somehow got screwed in to much?
isitafox
More likely its got cross threaded or wasn't greased, all you can really do is clamp the axle with something like a vice or pair of mole grips and try to turn the bolt out. SamKidney
tighten opposite bolt, undo stuck bolt a little, then the free one a little, then the stuck one and so on. A few of my hubs have done this. just make sure the threads are greased when everythings put back on. Is it in the frame or not? CalRobbo341
Tried that too, it just automatically undoe's the one that isn't stuck, if that makes sense? And no no it isn't.
Revolver
Small off-topic pro tip - name your topics after the problem. It makes a lot more sense. On topic, try getting a load of WD40 or GT85 in there. And a vice, that's a good plan.
CalRobbo341
Edited it And the only other way would be to take it to college on tuesday or see if my dad has one.
Revolver
Do you have some big grips? Try those. Edited June 5, 2012 by Revolver
CalRobbo341
Tried vice grips, didn't work, really tight to so there won't be much point trying with those.

CalRobbo341
Tried that.. It's just eating away at my axel.
CalRobbo341
Had a go then, vice grips on the stuck side axel, 10mm cone spanner on the other, tighten the bolt up, give it some beans, voila! EDIT - Cheers guys! Edited June 6, 2012 by CalRobbo341
CalRobbo341
Also, could I run the hub with no spacers on the axel? Too many and it is stiff, rubs on the bearings which won't make the wheel turn. Too little and they just sit there, freely. And if I put 3mm worth on each side it just doesnt work out correct :/ And a few times when I do tighten the wheel into the frame, I have to do the process above ^^, cheers. SamKidney
Onza frame? You should only have to use the supplied washers. did the hub come with or without cams?
CalRobbo341
Without cams, these thick black washers? EDIT - Fitted the black washers, goes in the frame, perfectly! Should this fix the problem with tightening too? True life saver you are Sam! Edited June 6, 2012 by CalRobbo341
SamKidney
Yup, should only need the black washers. youll find that cutting off the raised outer lip on the washers means the hub will be a nicer fit in the frame. The washers are both 3mm wider to fit 2012 Echo frames without the need to use snail cams to space it out, which is why theyre no longer suplied with cams (echo use integrated tensioners). Shortening each washer by 3mm will mean your hub will be spaced at 110mm. If you ever change frames to 116, just add cams Thats what I did with my TR hub to make it fit my Ice 2 and ran flawlessly.
