What Is The Daddy Of All Chains? I.e. Strongest

Looking for some advice and recommendations for a new chain..

Ideally the strongest as possible as i have radfest coming up soon.

I have snapped my chain twice this past month 1st time it snapped i rejoined it with some spare links to get me going which lasted around 2 weeks but the chain is over a year old and supposedly it is advised for trials to change a chain every 6 months if i am right? Due to them going under a lot of stress and pressure

Also because am still not up to date on modern drive set ups etc..

i prefer using these fossil split links as they seem more secure to the push n snap style links which i am not keen on.

You'll be after the gusset tank by the sounds of it, although it's almost too big. If you can track down a khe collapse you really can't go wrong, except if you're running a rear freehub it tends to kill them a bit.

A 1/8th KMC Kool is the safest bet all round.

Well if you want a really strong chain.... Get this: Gusset Tank Chain

Having a chain without a split link will mean you've got even less chance of breakage.

This seems popular by the Tarty team, lol. Trialtech z610

The trialtech looks good! Looks very similar to a KMC i have come across.

I run a pro2 hub :/

Thanks for your advice..

I have thought about maybe a motorbike chain at the correct pitch to run on single speed cogs.

A motorbike chain on a pushbike sounds like overkill, if you have your chain set up right and don't use split links then a 1/8th KMC Kool like Jack mentioned would be ideal and would last a while.

Just don't go there, lol. I've only ever had one and that was back in 2010 on my second bike due to not being able to get chain tension right, they're much weaker and I think they stretch easier too.

Half links are badddd (N)

KMC Z610HX chains are quality. Ive ran mine since the start of this year, and although I should really have changed it by now, its still going strong.

I bet it snaps now Ive said that -.-

i am pretty shure the regular heavy duty one will be plenty.

just get this chain pal. and replace it every 6 months. for £24 a year its really cheap.

The KMC Z510 HX or Z610 HX chains are definitely the way to go. They stretch a lot less than the K710, K810 or K710SL chains so they seem to sort of keep their strength longer. I used to rinse through Kools but the only Z-chain I've broken has been me being a spack. I tend to replace them every 5-6 months though.

EDIT: They don't seem to develop stiff-links as much as the 'heavy duty' sort of chains do either which is nice (Y) My Collapse chain sucked for that...

At work at the moment thought i would come in early to see if we had any.. i am in bad luck and none! The only kmc's we have got is 5s, 7s, 8s and no 6s!!!! Arghhhh : And if i wanted a 6 it would not be here til late next week or week after due to bank holiday plus we have just placed all of our orders this past week for stock.

So is there any pros and cons with the 5s, 7,s and 8s??

EDIT: Mark mentioned the 5 which we have...looks like im gonna give it a go.

Thanks again guys!

Cheers Andy

I'd say Oddessy Bluebird, in terms of strength, but it seems to be a bit of a wildcard in comparison to all the KMC 'random code's that are being trown about.

Oddysey is 510hx + single halflink for twice the price of 510hx...Not very smart especially if you don´t need that halflink.
