stratix3
Hello.. new here. I am just ordering a custom street-trialsy frame from Marino and I am considering additional heat treating of the frame. Since I dont know much about frame materials and techs, I ve questions: What are advantages of this process? Is this really needed with CrMo frames? Are your Marino frames heatreated? I have heard that heat treating strengthen tubes but weakens joints. Is it true? Cheers
Revolver
You don't have to bother with steel frames.
RobinJI
You don't have to bother with steel frames. It depends on the type of steel used, but it can go either way with steel. Some tube sets are designed to result in the correct/desired properties just from air-cooling after welding, which allows them not to need any post welding treatment. The best bet would be to contact Marino about it to find out the specs of the steel being used, and if this is the case or not.

craigjames
As far as I was aware 4130 cromo tubing (I assume that's what he's using) was ok without heat treatment, hence a lot of manufacturers can use it on their lower cost steel frames because it requires no post weld treatment, keeping the costs down; whilst still offering a reasonably light and strong frame.
