Kieran Morrison
Sorry but need an quick abswer as im with mates building the bike. How do you put the bb in? I put it on the drive side and it gets tk a certain point and then goes really tight and a bit squint and im afraid ill strip the threads. Is this normal for a new frame? Cheers
monkeyseemonkeydo
Drive side is left handed thread. It should go in straight and true otherwise you're cross threading it and will damage the frame. The driveside goes in first reasonably tight and then you put the non-driveside (right hand thread) in and nip it up to support the bearings. Kieran Morrison
Is it neant to be stiff though?
Mark W
Have you got much grease on the go on the threads?
Kieran Morrison
Yes . Seems like its straight but it then goes squint any ideas?
Mark W
It's worth screwing the non-drive cup in a bit to help guide the main body of the BB in.
Kieran Morrison
ive tried that but still no luck. it goes in about 1.5 turns then gets really hard to tighten and im scared of stripping the threads. i look at it when its going in and it goes straight but then when it gets hard to turn it looks a bit squint. any ideas? would wd40 help to get it in? should i clean the threads? The site I bought it off faced the bb shell if that helps/
TROYston
It shouldn't be too hard to tell if your doing damage to it. Man up! Use grease not WD40 or GT85 as there lubricants, not grease. Lithium Grease is like 4.50ish and its essential really anyway.
manuel
inspect the threads for any damage, crossing, dirt etc... if they look bad you may have to get them chased by a local bs.
harmertrials
Little tip I've always gone for is to turn the bb the incorrect way, until it clicks, this means the thread has lined up, then proceed putting it in. If it's not straight and it's stiff after only 1 turn then you're stripping the frame dude.
