AdamR28
Road looks quality - everything like that round here has hedges both sides, booo Looks about right to me, just under 7s to 60? The other cars will probably feel slower because you are a passenger and therefore the car weighs more?
Pete.M
Are there solid reliable computer packages that allow you to map your own car? I've always thought they'd be risky to use. Have you got any recommendations?
Pashley26
I did consider that Adam, but after a couple of runs side by side with both 182's I've been in the last week mine is certainly quicker. Either way I don't mind, it's a good thing. Are there solid reliable computer packages that allow you to map your own car? I've always thought they'd be risky to use. Have you got any recommendations? I don't know of anything which can generically map ANY car, however I bought a bit of kit called an RS Tuner which allows me to reflash my ECU with whatever the hell I want. It's specific to Renault Sports though. It works much like VAG COM but it is external and has a flash memory and RAM/ROM so it can rewrite. I bought the software and then had to make tweaks in a binary form to the map and then upload it and hope for the best really.
MadManMike
Do people take launch technique into consideration? I'm sure if a good driver was in my 106 he could pull away smoother / faster than I do... I'd say the only accurate measure of a cars performance is if the same driver tries them all out. Yeah, but if people are really looking to see what a car is like back to back it is usually from a rolling speed where initial traction is much less of a problem. As much as I would never publically condone street racing, if one WERE to partake in a 'who's car is fastest' type race, I don't think you'd ever do it from a standard start. Side by side at 30/50/60 is much more common, and generally the race continues until one or other participant bottles it, or the outcome is so clear that the point has been proven and does not need proving further. Prawny Baby
Like that time I smashed you in your own car, and then a couple of months later in my car... Are you actually boasting about driving the faster of my two A3's in a race against the slower of my two A3's? And being surprised that the faster one was faster? You realise that in that situation, I win either way right, as I own both cars?

Those Wanli's are f**king immense, they are total knock off's of Parada spec 2's. If I can get them again in 15's I will. They are brilliant and only £47 a corner in 16"! - FINALLY after years and years and years of smoking, I've properly learnt how to blow smoke rings lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmLcqZdHCxQ&feature=g-upl - Got a Galaxy S3 the other day, potentially the best phone ever? I was in love with my S2 but this thing has wiped the floor with it. - Going on the piss this afternoon in a massive way...whoop! Prawny Baby
Prada spec 2 are an utterly wank tyre. Wanlii ling long 2 dollar specials are a wank copy of a wank tyre, making them double wank. That said, cheaper rubber gives less grip, which in a great handling car can lead to MORE fun. they always said the mX5 was ruined by fitting sticky tyres to it....
Pashley26
My tires are the best "budget" tires I've ever driven. You say Paradas are shit, but that's surely in context to a heavier car like yours. People with lighter car (anything sub 1050kg's) seem to swear by them other than the price? RobinJI
Once you're on 15's you'll be using 195/50R15's won't you? In which case, there's no question, just fit Toyo T1r's. £35.80, for a genuinely good tyre = winning. Gotta agree with Prawn in a way, my MX-5 was great fun on a matching set of budgets, but I still think I'd have replaced them with Toyos when the time came, but then I like grip. That said, I've decided on 215's on the back on my mini rather than 235's, as I don't want the back to have too much grip. (For the record, a tyres tread looking (very very slightly) like another's tread has absolutely no reason to suggest that the performance would be even close to similar.) You make me laugh sometimes..... ph2 clio 172 - 1110kg Prawns A3 - 1100kg If I'm not mistaken, 1100 is less than 1110, but for the context of this argument, we'll call it even. Pradas are wank. weight is irrelavent. Much like the common pub myth that greenstuff pads are the bollocks, pradas are the tyre equivalent. Problems reported on many Mk2 golfs, an evo 1 (1000kg), and just about everything else come to think of it. decent grip in the dry on the road only, lethal in the wet, and overheat and delaminate on track. Of course, you'll get those who protest ''my pradas are excellent on track thank you very much!'' - these people can't drive. Once you're on 15's you'll be using 195/50R15's won't you? Gotta agree with Prawn in a way, my MX-5 was great fun on a matching set of budgets, but I still think I'd have replaced them with Toyos when the time came, but then I like grip For what they are, at £35 a corner in that size Toyos are simply incredible, I used to pay £110 a corner to run them on the A3's for years and wouldn't use anything else. Absolutely fantastic tyres in every way. As for the mx5 comment, I wasn't really refering to budget tyres, or decent toyos, more that it was ruined by fitting things like 888's or other such semi slicks which take away the cars ability to 'dance' so to speak
Pashley26
YOU make ME laugh sometimes. Millions of people say Parada's are good, I might get a set and bum them to f**k just to piss you off. They are only £44.03 a tyre new in 15" compared to £40.32 for T1R's. In all seriousness, the 15" wheels will have some RB5's, R888's, RSR's etc on them I hope. If I can't afford them I will just put a set of T1R's/Spec 2's on. I'll only have them for when the sun is out properly or for proper drives. I have got my eye on a set of Turbines on ebay at the moment, I really like the look of them. All you will do by bumming Prada's is confirm to the rest of us that you're a straight line merchant and that you're afraid of corners, but we already knew that anyway Millions of people can do what the f**k they like. it's the common myths that are the most dangerous. Pashley26
Uninformed is potentially my most used word when having internet arguments with forum hero's. I love it, it's just such a useful word. How did AP get on with the RB5's in the end? I can get them for £61 a corner in 15" and they look baller. I'm so confused with this car, I LOVE it standard and I don't want it to get to a point where the A3 was when it was all there and awesome but needed a big cash injection and some massive balls to make it right. Why can't decent modifications be cheaper haha! I know that I WANT a proper track spec Clio and I want to build it properly, but I don't want it to be ruined in the mean time and lose sight of what I want Lows, tracky wheels and buckets should sort me out for now. Then when I come home next I can drill some holes and shit. Edited June 5, 2012 by Pashley26
george_seamons
I remember you saying you were keeping it 100% standard. Lols. I have to agree with the Prada arguement. They were AWESOME on the road in the dry, but they tried many many times to kill me in the wet. However, on track, they did seem to fall apart a bit when REALLY pushed, they beaded like nobody's business, and just went to shit really!
RobinJI
I've heard many good things about Rainsport 2's, and I was really impressed with the Uniroyals that were on the Scirocco when I bought it (Rallye 540 iirc). They seemed popular with the MX-5 guys when I had mine. Most reviews seemed to say that they're pretty similar to the T1R in terms of grip, but better in the wet and longer lasting. I've heard nothing but epic praise for the rainsport 2, not a tyre that's ever really taken off in the performance car world, but those who have used them rate them very highly indeed.
