Bikes are far, far cheaper to insure. (About a tenth for me on any like for like comparison. 125 against Nissan Micra, Bandit 12 against Subaru Impreza).

But, you are 14. I'd recommend trying to keep your mind open and just saving what you can. Don't worry about car vs bike until you're old enough for either of them!

And don't bother with a 50cc anything at 16, they're all wank.

I was driving a scooter, 50ccm since i am 14, back at that age they were awesome :)

And yeah, stock, they are good, if you do not have any alternative (at least they go with petrol and look cool), but if you get your hadn oily, change vario, maybe bigger piston..

If you change the vario, they can be awesome, but changing the piston is illegal, so never ever do it, we did not do it as well..... :D

I was looking for a Rs 125 for quiet a time, but my problem is that the bike is twice he price of the car, and it is always rainy here, and I cannot transfer my bike with it.. but if it would be a warmer country, or less rainy, I would get a mito/rs125 in no time :)

14? Are you from the UK? It's 16 over here or a 125 at 17. I'd say it's worth waiting a year...

Depends how big and heavy you are. At 16 I was 50% heavier than a lot of my mates (I was about 12 stone while they were all about 8), so while a 50cc scooter could move them around, they couldn't move me. A mate of mine had an Aprilia RX50 with a DEP race exhaust system and some fancy piston/head work and a different carb and so on, ran perfectly but still only mate about 9bhp, so wouldn't even pull past 35mph with me on it.

I am from Hungary, the legal age is 14 for 50 ccm and there is no need of registration plate what so ever. it has its pros and cons as well...

I have an A1 licence since I a 16 :D

but in this case it worth to wait..

I was around 50 kg or so, so I was very light, no idea how much is it at stone.

I could find a place that was completely straight and was going down a little bit, once I went around 50 miles there, it was great at age of 16 :D it was completely stock though

at 50 ccm it does not get a gearbox, a CVT set right is the best I think

that is the art at 50 ccm, to get the most out of your bike and dont get caught

ohh, the good old times, when I spend al my money on petrol :)

Went to padgetts in batley yesterday with my old man for a look round. Went in both the yamaha and Honda shops, and saw this beauty just sat there. 22 made, 11 full factory ones. This is one of them. This is the best bike porn you are gonna see in a while, so be warned

I'm currently sat here waiting to put my bid in on a bike... If I get it it'll be the first road bike I've owned in a couple of years, seems like longer though.

I know my brother will see this as he's also sitting around at his house watching me bid, because he is the saddest f**ker in the world! Wadup bro.

Good work on the RSV! They're one of my dream bikes. Not sure why but I've always loved them. How much did you pay for it?

I was watching to see if you won that ugly heap, and you did! Pretty decent price I'd say, finally we'll be able to go out for rides now haha.

That's probably my favourite bike ever!

Picked this up today, bargain, RSV-R with all the Ohlins kit & OZ wheels.

Nice. Prob a factory or racing model. Make sure the battery is in good nick and the starter spins freely, otherwise it's an engine out job to replace the starter clutch and sprag thingie. Other than that, these are epic bikes

Listen kid, let's not start a "who's got the ugliest bike" competition, because you will not come off well.

I'm scared, it's so complicated. It's got something called "water cooling", and 2 cylinders with 4 spark plugs and 6 valves!

For anyone interested, it's one of these:

VT500E.jpg

It's got some massive fairing fitted at the moment, but that's coming off. It's almost mint, and I paid £600 for it. It's ugly but incredibly good condition for a 26 year old bike and doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it...
