The Photography Thread

From what I remember when I was last looking into a new bag, unless you spend big money they still look like boring camera bags. Then you're spending 200 plus and you're into the f-stop gear evoc range and they are both great looking bags and amazing quality.

In the end I just brought  decent backpack and some gear wraps and that's how I get by, I have a lot less kit than you though.

This is worth a watch. I remember someone on this thread saying how good some photos were when Obama got voted in, of the celebrations and him speaking etc. A discussion was had about how if you had the opportunity to be there it's not that hard to get those photos. This is a great video showing the different perspective people can get, great inspiration to take to your next shoot. Although I bet this guy can get closer than other photographers, he most likely got there by being good.

I haven't had the lens off my D750 since I bought it, brand new. Literally the cap was off the body just to fit the new lens, indoors and carefully. Tonight I did a 30 second exposure and there's dust spots all over the photo.

Is it normal for bodies to come from the factory like this? Instinct tells me that Nikon would probably not allow this, but I can't see how I did it when I've had the body open for less than 5 seconds, once.

Anyway, here's the photo, with most dust spots removed...

What lens is it? If it's a zoom there's a high chance of dust getting in the barrel and in turn the camera.

Hell, even my Coolpix A which has a fixed lens has got a mother of a dust spot on the sensor and the lens isn't even removable!

24-120 f4 Nikon

Luckily I don't do slow exposure much, so they won't normally show up, I was just shocked that there was so many dots on there already and I've not really used it yet...

Unfortunately it's one of those unavoidable things, it is surprising with the full frame bodies how quickly dust becomes apparent. The sensor cleaning is a lot better in the DX bodies due to the physically smaller sensor and shutter, so there's more room to fit the cleaning mechanism and make it more effective.

I highly recommend the Dust-Aid Dust Wand Kit. By far the best evaporation of any cleaning solution I've used and the swabs are as fine, tough and lint resistant as they come.

Slow shutter or not, you'll probably see them when you have the aperture narrow.

I couldn't work out how my Nikon body was getting so dusty inside then I realised that I was forever keeping the body cap in my jeans pocket, and it was filling up with dust (and who knows what else) and then I'd stick it back on the body.

Those are great, what lens are you using?

Thanks :)

Using a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 - I love it. Foolishly I didn't buy the HSM version so I have no choice over manual or auto focus though! (not a problem for macro as I'd always use manual anyway).

Also use a cheapo ringflash usually.

I've got a Tokina 100mm, I should really do some more macro shooting (Other than the odd shots of those coins I did to test it out). I normally use it for portraits.

I need to get a cheap ringflash too, but I don't do enough macro to justify spending out on it.

I only got it quite recently, (hence why I've only just started posting in here...) and I haven't really done any portraits!

This is the ring flash I got: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291124940281?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

It's not great, but it's better than nothing.

I have to say, since I started trying to photograph them, I now notice a lot more bugs etc when out and about now. A bit like spider senses.....

P.S \Please don't start doing macro shots as you'll make me look bad, thanks.
