Joe O'Connor
Today when I was randomly walking through a second hand store I saw this beauty and decided it was a stupid idea not to buy it. Its a Yashica Minister III. Its in amazing condition, even has a UV filter on the front. There is one dial on it I have no idea what does, it has ASA written next to it... The only thing wrong is that the shutter does not move when you try to take a photo, which is kinda important when it comes to photography. I was reading up about how to open the top up to get to the shutter and it involved undoing the film advance leaver. I have no idea how to do that. Im guessing I need a special tool for such a task. Should I attempt to open it to see whats up or is that stupid and I should I just send it to a shop? Also, thoughts on this camera in general? Is it as nice as I think it looks? Tony Harrison
Don't know much about them. ASA is for the film speed (sensitivity) setting, which should be set to match the film you put in, assuming you're not deliberately shooting at the wrong film speed. On modern digital cameras film speed is referred to as ISO (in both cases it seems a bizarre choice of name, since the acronyms refer to American Standards Association and International Organization for Standards, and don't have any direct relation to the specific measurement of film sensitivity). You may well find that if you can disassemble it you can unstick the shutter.
Joe Aston
I did a similar thing with an Olympus pen shutter was stiking but followed a really easy step by step guide and got it working. I say working as the shutter now does shoot when you put the shutter button but I'm not sure if i put it back together right as I still haven't finished the roll of film I put in it nearly a year ago. This has reminded me it's still in my glove box. I shall dig it out.
Skoze
got about 15 rolls of film to get developed, mix of b+w and colour, 24 and 36 exp. Where's best to get them done, ideally at some degree of sweet discount?

Tony Harrison
Can anyone recommend a remote camera trigger, i.e. a wireless device that will actuate the shutter on a Nikon DSLR? It needs to work up to 100 meters away, reliably, i.e. first time every time. There will be line of sight, it will be used outdoors only and we can assume good weather (but some weather-sealing would be good). I don't mind if it's expensive, if it works. I think Pocket Wizard make something, but I haven't looked online much yet, just wondering if anyone here has a personal recommendation. It doesn't need to focus the camera or do anything too slick, just fire a single shot or maybe a burst. Thanks!
MadManMike
I have a remote that I used to use with a D40, if it's compatible with yours you can have it for a few quid... I'll find the part number tonight.
Tony Harrison
Thanks for the offer but it's no good - I have one too somewhere that I bought for my D50. Not compatible with lots of models, and probably not high enough power.
DrEvil270183
Pockets wizards can trigger camera, I'm 99% sure the old ones can too so you could probably find some quite cheap. Never used them so don't know all they ins and outs sorry. Edited September 17, 2014 by DrEvil270183

Tony Harrison
How much should my friend expect to pay for wedding photography? It's in Sussex, and he just wants photos on a CD, no album etc. Also it's not going to be a big dramatic affair. He said most people seemed to want £1000 - I told him you get what you pay for, generally, and that mates with cameras usually f'ck it up. MadManMike
I've done a few weddings and as I was just starting out, I was going in around the £500 mark. It's a risk really, you can get decent photographers around that price, but you can also get people with entry level cameras that just apply shitty filters. DrEvil270183
I'd say anyone at around £1200+ should be really good and reliable in all situations. Safe back ups etc. If they offer a book at that price I'd be worried. Tell them to make sure they get on with the photographer(s), you'll always get better images. Check they like the images on the photographers blog plus it's always good to ask to see a full wedding or two so they can see the boring images that might not make it on to a blog. Even the formals, guest shots etc need to be sharp and edited well and above timeless. We charge £1400 for a USB package, pre-wedding shoot to get couples relaxed with us, full day without time restrictions so they get all the party shots etc. Rights to print with the USB. We back up to two G-tech drives and another drive off site. Each image edited individually. Then images delivered to couples within 4 weeks. I'd recommend taking there time until they find someone the click with. Hope that helps.
Mike Deere
Was on The One Show last night photographing Didcot Power Station. It's on iPlayer, about half way through the programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04httcf/the-one-show-29092014 It's not distracting at all being filmed while trying to shoot photographs, honest
JDâ„¢
That must've been a pretty fun day out, although I'd imagine that filming and whatnot gets right in the way?
Mike Deere
Yeah, it did quite a bit to be honest. I could easily spend a couple of days again running round there finding angles. We were also quite restricted by time and what works were going on for decommissioning, the place seemed busier closed than it would have been while still generating! Tony Harrison
Awesome! I was wondering if that'd get checked out...
manuel
not sure if this is the place to go for help but hey... I no photoshopper... Ok so I have this image, a matisse cutout, and the highest res version I can find is this one its simple shapes and block colours (or could be made to be). Id like to blow it up so that it could be printed huuuuge (over 2m wide), without it looking like a big pixelated pile of poop. How do I go about it ? I also want to remove any colour from the background - so either transparent or just white, and maybe take the individual items and make them filled with block colour (possibly limit the number of colours used) Any help much appreciated. EDIT the uploader seems to have scaled the image a bit so I have 1918x866
