Prawny Baby
Mine's with HIC Danny, they don't do a multi car, but if you're a good customer with them, they'll mirror your NCB from your main car onto your second car. However, without wanting to sound rude, you've already f**ked it by going to Flux they're a sister company, and HIC probably won't quote you now. If they know you've had a flux quote they will refuse to quote at all. Try it, claiming you havn't, but they might flag it up from your name and refuse still. RobinJI
Hic up in here. Mine was classic policy with 7000miles an was 300 a year on the end. Now its down with as little miles as possible an they know its dorm an kept behind a property an costs 150 to insure. Big plans soon! Booked in for some work at the end of September, but what its having is a secret.... Plans sound interesting! I may have made a small hole: This thing was seriously bent, I've had to move the passenger side B-pillar out 18mm and the A pillar forward 7mm, bloody rally cars! It's taken a few knocks in its life. It'll be a hell of a transformation though. Once the floors done it'll just need the arches tubbing to get rid of that hideous attempt at rolling them, some mods to the cage and some fiberglass bits fitting. we came to the agreement that it'd be less work to just tub them. I've also done a mk1 light conversion on it (this is pre-filler): And new A-panels, with a new (home made) supporting panel behind the O/S one and cleaned up, straightened and stitched welded on the N/S: Car's an interesting piece of kit, looks like it's been used for Miglia racing (a long time ago), Rallying and hill-climbing. The spec's pretty high but parts of the build are so dodgy they make you wince (harnesses mounts just threaded into 1/4" plate in tension!), at least all those points should be sorted by the time I'm done with it, should be a nice little mk1. DrDoom
In even more 'Not quite a mini but wants to be' news... I may of gone slightly stupid. Vtec, right? Well - say hello to my new friend! Well, not this one, but I'm going JRSC route! Edited July 30, 2012 by DrDoom
RobinJI
Thanks Paul. More mini fixing action from me: Door step panel adjusted to fit properly and welded in (besides the rear quarter, I'm waiting until I tub the arches so I can get the contour at the rear edge better.) The pressing was a bit poor in the corners and needed a fair bit of adjusting: Cage reinforcing plates welded into the floor pan (12.5cm x 10.5cm to exceed the 120cm^2 the MSA ask for): Door test fitted, panel gaps are looking very good by Mini standards, and the contour down the side of the car's really good, a huge improvement over how it was before. These aren't the doors that are going on it, they're just a set of steel doors that are known to be straight, so I know they're safe to test the car around, this car will get fiberglass doors: Door step panel welds ground back and the floor pan fitted at the sill/front/back. I've not welded the floor to the tunnel yet as the tunnel needs some straightening first, which I'll do once the drivers side floors out. CurtisRider
Good stuff, what panels are you using? The ones I got from DSN were tripe, many hours wasted fettling
Duncy H
Awesome progress there robin! What mine currently looks like with the e type I've been driving around in. Needs some different arches on as they are too much for those wheels. Been having serious thoughts lately as wether or not to strip out the mini over winter and turn it into a track toy and get something else for a daily. Don't think I could do/afford it though until my compensation comes through.
Radfax
Only 10 pages now? Anyway after 6 years mini-less I got myself this last month. Love the thing, I won't bore you all with it just yet! Can I be back in the club again?
King C
The grill cut out looks like an alternator sits there. So whats under the bonnet?
Radfax
It is just a 998... out of a Nissan Which is surprisingly a lot more fun than it sounds, currently making 78bhp which compared to my old 998 City E is some what impressive. The alternator bugs the hell out of me, I have learnt that smaller alternators out of cars like them Matiz things and other small 12v jap cans will fit and will leave me enough room to run a standard un-chopped up grill. It is on the never ending "To Do" list. The Nissan engine won't be staying, but what it will be replaced with is undecided as of yet. Currently in the works is... A new front end is being assembled, The light bar will be going along with the extra set of mirrors which are no use what so ever. The alternator will be replaced/changed around so that I can run a full grill. The steering wheel has been replaced by a Motolita item and I have a Rust free boot with luggage panel which is currently being painted up and protected. I also have a set of R1 carbs and megajolt in the post although these will sit under the bed for a fairly long time before they are fitted. Also need to try some 10"s on there, although I have read that this will throw the revs out of the window compared to them currently being on the 13's so I will have to have a little play. I picked some MiniFin things up at SMD, along with some new pads which I need to fit, but i need to finish off the other 10 jobs I have started first. davey1991
You can get those engines above 100bhp easily

Radfax
Well I was having a bit of a read this morning on that very subject. I read a few build threads, all on the CG13, one was running 1000cc bike carbs, aftermarket manifold and a Megajolt management running something in the region of 100bhp. Another was somewhat of a ghetto build running a low pressure turbo, T15 or something I think It may have been with stacked gaskets, That was making 120-130. The third build I read was another turbo build in a SR motor from France. This seemed to be built with a Galanza manifold a Decat mated to a CG flange, this was making 170PS, what ever that converts to in BHP. To be honest I think I might just stick a B18 in there, i have considered a A+ turbo, but the costs compared to the gains is sort of putting me off. I will have long enough to think of a decent plan. Danny
Ill post a full update soon on whats been going on with mine over the past 18 months, The general gist is i totally rebuilt it inner/outer sills, wings, scuttle, door skin, valence, hinge panel, floor to get it on the road for the 2011 dales run. Finished it just in time (mot day before the run) after a few nights in the garage until midnight. I ran it up until november (5-6 weeks) and someone ran into the back of it on my way to work which resulted in a new boot lid, rear panel, rear light which was repaired in about feb and its been in my garage since keeping out of the shit weather. Well its back on the road now and here's how it currently looks.

Got a few bits messed up there. The 998 is a CG10 The CG13 is a 1275 The cg10's can get too 100 bhp with CG13 con rods and the 1litre pistons, this gives you high compression, on top of this the 1.3 inlet cam gives more low down power, although swapping both cams gives more power it just starts about 5-6k rpm. The rev limiters can be removed, but that depends on if its been converted too carbs and the standard engines with standard internals will rev too 9k all day long. I know far too much about small nissan engines haha. My 1.0 with standard pistons and con rods, 1.3 cams, enlarged manifold, and a 1.6 throttle body was up too 70 from the standard 54. With the 1.3 internals in it it should be pushing above 100 the and when i start fiddling with the injectors and the 2.0 throttle body i should be able too get close too 125. stupidly light engine aswell. But again info you probably don't need too know if you've got your mind set on a honda lump.

Duncy H
When is Combe? I wouldn't mind a big trip out in the mini sometime soon. Would be great to see some of you guys too. Does anybody remember the rotten mini at work I may have posted a fair while back? Well it's ready for paint....
Tom Booth
Looks good dunc, good to see younger people taking to actual panel fitting an repairwork rather then just bolt on bolt off stuff. Combes the 29th august. Fancy a drive down together?
Tom Booth
Actually, any good campsites near combe? Anybody else fancy a day at combe/evening BBQ an alcohol??
RobinJI
I'll be at Combe, maybe with a small trade stand though, so I may not be able to do toooo much of my own thing The mini I've been working on should be there too. Speaking of which, the floor's all back in now, the drivers sides had the same treatment (new floor, sill and door step), a new cross-member's gone in, the exhaust tunnel's been widened at the front for more shifter clearance, I've fabricated and welded in some nice strong mounts for the buckets, patched up a load of pointless holes in the rear bench and tunnel, cut the boot floor out ready to put in a sunken fibreglass one and tubed both rear arches. Still need to fit the boot floor, weld 2 braces into the cage, weld in the crotch strap mounts for the harnesses and then give it all a blast over with high-build then paint the inside. Fun times. I'll stick some pictures up sometime. PS, Tom, Combe's the 29th of September, not August, or it'd be tomorrow.
