dann2707
I don't suppose anyone knows a place that could extend these splines for me? I essentially want the driveshaft shorter by 15mm and do not want to have to get new ones made up. Reckon it would be a hard job?
Luke Rainbird
I'd have thought most decent engineering/machining places should be able to hook you up. That said, I wouldn't expect it to be overly cheap to have done. Don't have anywhere through work who can make your life glorious?

MadManMike
So my car failed, as expected, however not as badly as expected. Windscreen wipers are shit - I knew that but thought they'd scrape through Headlight angle "obviously" wrong - again I knew that, but last time I adjusted them they went all on the piss and were even more useless. Hole in drivers side floor - I wasn't aware of that, but apparently it's only a small patch up required, which my friend is going to do. On the 28th it's having new outer and inner sills as well as arches and paint. Once that's done, we're attacking everything underneath with rust converter and sealing stuff. She should be quite tidy soon!
Luke Rainbird
At least it's a quick and painless task to put right for a retest - small patch being the more awkward of the bunch but if you have someone lined up already you're golden
MadManMike
Yep, definitely not as bad as I was expecting
Tom Booth
That's pretty tame for a 26 year old jap wagon Mike! Tanks held 175 psi for past 2hours so we're cooking in gas hopefully!
MadManMike
Yeah clearly all those hours of effort have paid off - she's had a fair bit of love over the past year That install's looking nice!
Tom Booth
I've got 2 quater panel closers to fit by didn't wanna fit it all till I'd tested it for a few days.
Tom Booth
Before.... After.. Removed the old air ride controls as I'm going to paddle valves, today I'm making a nice new gauge/switch plate that'll hopefully fit in with the dash. Removed the factory aircon unit as I needed somewhere to put the air ride controls that was more convenient, air con didn't work anyway as someone has removed the aircon compressor in it's lifetime. Hopefully make for a nice tidy install. Found loads of shitty wiring too that's been added along the way so after an hour it's back to more or less a standard loom behind the dash. I do have the glove box door, its just off to colourmatch for the new panel.

Tom Booth
All those leaves came off the top.of the aircon unit. I've not cleaned it since I bought It shamefully. It'll be having a new carpet, headliner and seat covers over winter. I originally was gonna go for a turquoise interior with painted dash, doors and matching carpet the full works but since driving it I love the minor wear on the door tops and dash. It's took 50+ years to get there so why spoil it now, it's not like it needs painting.
Tom Booth
New airide control panel. Just need my fittings to turn up and were sorted
Danny
Looks better. Are those seat covers original? Worth repairing rather than replacing? The carpet looks a bit ming but keep the rest as is if you can.
Tom Booth
Yeah original front and back on the bench seats. I did wonder about getting them repaired but I don't know if it would be possible, it's not ripped the stitching it's ripped the material where it's stitched so I don't think there would be my strength left in the seam. Carpet will be going in winter for a new smoke grey moulded piece. Headliner is ripped too so I'm chucking a new one in when I do the window seals. Tom Booth
I used to run a 140psi pressure switch on the old setup, fitted a 175psi cut off this time and it's given mad lift Just waiting on some 1/8npt push fittings for the back of the gauges so currently I don't know what's in the front bags but it's only for leak testing at the minute.
Greetings
Few pics from work. When taking up this job I was focusing on the correct line of drivers I was coaching, smoothness and braking zones but I'm beginning to feel the balance of each car through my bottom even without a steering wheel in front of me. Hoping this will bring a much better feel for my own car. Apparently I can now attend trackdays for free, 3 weeks from now I'll be there in the M3 Turbo S and a charger behind the wheel. It's amazing how ham fisted one can be behind the wheel of these things and still manage a decent lap time. And a couple of interesting cars: Carrera RS with an amazing driver behind the wheel. Wasn't afraid of throwing the car into corners and dealt with the aftermath like a pro. And the nastier part of the job which is making sure someone with no experience who's paid to lap the track behind the wheel of a 911 doesn't kill himself. On the plus side, I get to drive him around after he's had a go. Still can't figure out the dynamics of these cars, they drive very differently. I was never a fan of Porsche but the more time I spend around these things and drive them, the more I love them. They're so beautifully engineered and finished. Porsche have turned an awkward engine position into a massive advantage. These cars stop like nothing else I've been in pulling 1.4g under braking on semi slicks, the engine is a symphony to behold and although it's so flat and harsh on the track, it's so usable on the road. Would gladly take a Carrera GTS or GT3 over pretty much anything on four wheels.

MadManMike
I was hoping to go, but couldn't make it. What was crap about it?
Tom Booth
Just pretty boring to be honest. Most exciting thing there was a hill climb 205 that went like a stabbed rat. I suppose I was abit harsh saying it was crap but there's only so many mk2 golfs and 'drift' E36 you can walk around for a full day.
Greetings
Engine is in. Rear wings were narrowed down to stock, got a bit of a problem now. Apparently 250's are the narrowest 18" slicks currently used in racing. This is with 2* camber, apparently 4 is recommended. Hoping for more clearance with camber arms.
