SamKidney
Today I solved many, but not all, of the issues Ive had with the Civic. - Front bumper clips replaced, actually sits correctly now - Front brakes removed and freed off, actually stops properly now - Original exhaust center section refitted. I can drive in silence if need be. - Car cleaned, properly. No more dead bugs or tar splatter, all gone. - Raised the ride height around 15mm, has made a noticeable difference on the roads round here - Replaced my rear anti roll bar links The car still knocks and bangs very harshly, especially on the N/S front, but theres no obvious play in any ball joints or bushes, so Im linking it to the cheap coilovers being fubared. My gearbox continues to leak, so that needs splitting and resealing. Could do with a driveshaft seal too I hit my sump rather hard the other day and now Id like to replace that too. No leaks but it makes me paranoid haha. The bit Im happiest about is the exhaust. I loved the noise the lairy 2.5 asbo cannon made but trying to drive it day to day in a normal sense made it quite tiresome. Its pleasant to drive in a more leisurely manner now. I like it.

MadManMike
Fitted my new (old) exhaust that I sourced for £30. Still raspy as it's got a de-cat and a 4-2-1 manifold before it, but it's quieter and doesn't knock the bottom of the car any more (f**k me that was annoying!) Also decided to do the reverse light to fog mod, rather than the high level brake light. Just waiting for the red bulb to show up, but all the wiring is done. Danny
Whats the lag like with those? is it not only a 2.0l?
Prawny Baby
420 from a 2.0, whilst it sounds huge, isn't actually a huge amount these days! it's the same ~210bhp / litre that my 1.8 was making, before it blew up hahaha. So, yea. This happened: Because of this: So I pushed it into the garage and forgot about it for a while. In other news, after a year with a van and a track car, I decided I needed a proper daily. I've always had fairly small cars, so decided to go for something totally different. A big comfy Luxobarge! 3.0D, auto, cruise etc. It's a lovely comfy place to be.193bhp and 300lbft, and did 48mpg on the cruise home yesterday at 80mph. Hoping it continues to be a success!
craigjames
Looks a sweet lil barge that Nick! That looks like a nice interference fit with that valve... So are you advising uprated valves and springs with one of these turbos? Or just a head refresh with new guides and stem seals? Granted I won't be running mine with as high a rev limit as yours. george_seamons
6 hours ago, Danny said: Whats the lag like with those? is it not only a 2.0l? Lag is pretty much non-existent, the turbo is magical, hits about 300ftlb at 3000rpm, with full boost achieved at about 3500rpm, and revs through to 7500, with the power just going all the way to the redline. Most of the hybrids make about 410-420bhp, and 420-450ftlbs. The K04 TFSI hybrids are insane, difficult to explain until you've been in one. The biggest benefit is the near instant boost recovery, which is why they make such good turbos for track cars.
Danny
I was only basing my comment on comparison to the 2.5 T5 Volvo lump in my ST. They make 320bhp/400ftlbs (220bhp/230ftlbs standard) with standard bolts ons but 340 is about the limit with the standard turbo. The RS engines make up to about 420bhp/440ftlbs (different turbo and internals). The S3 certainly does sound like good fun though. Do you run into any issues with the 4wd system at those kind of power levels?
Prawny Baby
The haldex 2 in the 8P S3 seems pretty damn solid. Even the early haldex 1 in the 8L seems to be happy at 600bhp Drove the barge in again this morning, loving it so far Parked in the road last night behind a 'note'. It's amazing how proportions of cars have changed over the years, even a huge barge like the 5 appears slender behind a modern eurobox! I also discovered it's not impossible to get it sideways this morning, so a little more investigation required there next time it rains

As promised, terrible pictures of a ropey car yayyy! Clutch slips, hazard switch is a bit dicky which messes up the indicators, it's missing bits of trim all over, hot blowers don't work, brakes are wobbly as f**k, bit rusty, bit dented, lacquer peel on every panel, in a general poor state of repair but it was $600 (£296), has a months MOT (equiv) and given that these are rare as rocking horse shit this side of the world it was some kind of miracle that it was pretty much next door It's a "CLI" which doesn't exist in the UK, but from what I can tell it's a GTI 8v with drums on the back instead of discs and poverty trim Edited June 16, 2016 by Jolfa

Luke Rainbird
In this week's "Nothing to Report", I have nothing interesting to report. I've managed to nab myself a small compressor. Need to pick up a few tools, but should give a little more grunt and open up some options down the line. Drove back to Hampshire, where I'm now based again for a while. Passed this pair on the way. On base and after a week or so of settling back into routine, it'll be time to try and get myself some workshop access. Will cross that bridge next week, all being well. MadManMike
Here's how the back looks now I've removed the fog light and spoiler: (Yes, I still need to remove the bracket, but that's properly rusted on!)
dann2707
Got some new wheels that my Dad collected for me, such a bargain to say they include the centre caps however they're pretty manky. Can they be disassembled and cleaned does anyone know? Looks like the plastic that is faded. Team dynamic pro race 1.2's 2016-06-16_11-47-49 by dann2707, on Flickr And made a start on removing my megane shifter and modifying it for the new shaft and extension. Luckily everything came off easily thanks to me copper greasing the balls off everything when I refit stuff. 20160616_182856 by dann2707, on Flickr I then removed the internals 20160616_185815 by dann2707, on Flickr Please take a moment to admire my lift up reverse bodge bracket when I first fitted this as it snapped off haha 20160616_185827 by dann2707, on Flickr This is how i'm doing the lift up reverse now, using a 17mm bore bearing shaft collar, fitted an M6 grub screw long enough for two nuts, inbetween those two nuts is going to be my extended wire for the lift up reverse, joined by simply using a cable joiner. More pics of that tomorrow. Can also see my cut out for the pin on the silver shaft - not the neatest of jobs wish I had access to a milling machine. 20160616_220241 by dann2707, on Flickr This is how i've extended the shaft overall, grub screw in the middle and tapped rod. Might have made it a little too big but i'll test it first before I make it shorter. 2016-06-16_10-33-04 by dann2707, on Flickr And altogether, just need a few little things doing tomorrow as I need some side cutting pliers. 20160616_220326 by dann2707, on Flickr Pretty happy with it. Ordered another 17mm shaft collar for the lift up reverse bit for your fingers to grip. Will be spraying it black too.
