MadManMike
The Punto just failed its MOT on: nearside Windscreen wiper blade missing (8.2.2) centre Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A' (8.3.1e) offside Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b) offside Registration plate lamp not working (1.1.C.1d) offside front Sub-frame corroded and seriously weakened (2.4.G.1) offside front Anti-roll bar ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2) Mostly minor, but the front sub frame corroded is bad news. This is on a 9 year old car with less than 70k on it. My notoriously rotten MX-5 is on 240k and hasn't had any welding, apart from the hole I put in it myself. Nice one Fiat. Luke Rainbird
Car currently looks like this: Been given an unexpected few days leave before heading back to Scotland for a bit, so using the time to tidy up a few little bits I've been putting off for a while (replacing FMIC mount, tidying up trimmed bumper grilles etc). Also have some new brake lines and paint for a refresh at some point, though unlikely I'll get that done tomorrow as well. Off to the midlands (I'm assured it is a real place but I'm still not convinced) for the weekend and all being well collecting my new turbo whilst I'm in the area thanks to the TrialsForum Network of Win (Ben/Kyle have been cool enough to grab the turbo from a seller who didn't want to shit and hang onto it for me until I could collect) Good times. Skoze
Well bored on the train today so phoned my insurance company up for a chat. 2.8, 3.0 or 2.9 24v Ford V6, or a 3.5/ 3.9 Rover V8 swaps, £54 increase no matter what I fancy putting in the Land Rover. Goodbye, cruel world.

She also told them it was in the passenger foot well and asked them to fit it before testing... We're talking about a busy primary school teacher that gives zero f**ks about cars. This is all irrelevant anyway, the point is that the sub frame shouldn't be totally f**ked after 8 years and not many miles.
Skoze
Cheap shitty metal? In me news, I washed the Capri today. This was after two rounds with a jet wash, got a bit more of the grime off but it seems all those weird patches are f**ked lacquer. Loving life. TrialsIsHard
Is that UV damage @Skoze? I'll grab a picture of my bonnet tomorrow which has done a similar thing (albeit much worse). What's the texture of it like?
CurtisRider
My girlfriend drove my Porsche for a few hours on our way back from a day out. She is usually a very sedate driver but she was a total animal in it using all the revs before shifting and gunning it on the fun bits, she didn't stop grinning all the way home. She now wants a similar car, but I think she will miss things like AC and PAS. We have narrowed it down to an MX5 (MK2.5) for cheap giggles or an early Boxster if we can squeeze a bit more funds in as she likes the way they look. Are there any other similar cars we should be looking into? I had also thought about a MK1 TT as they are quite nice to look at but perhaps a little too much like a Golf/Leon to drive (total assumption due to the platform they are based on). Personally I think she should get a 944 but she's not keen on the shape
SamKidney
I'm a fan of how the Mk1/2 TTs drive. Not at all like a Golf or a Leon. It's about the only thing I like about them. Awful to see out of and the space you get for the size of the car is pitiful but they drive well and they don't go too badly either. I'd have an Mx-5 to be fair in terms of Smiles:Cost ln civic news: Serviced it on Thursday. Seems to have used a little oil but no more than expected given its just about done running in. Changed the plugs for some Bosch Super Irridiums and re-timed the distributor. Runs much much smoother although I feel a bit of a flat spot around 3700rpm so I'm not convinced I've got the ignition timing bang on. Refit my buddyclub midsection too, the sound pleases me. MadManMike
MX-5 for the win. Half decent ones for less than a grand, or less than two grand for a pretty sorted one. Can't beat that for value.
george_seamons
Gotta admit, I'd go for an mx5 based on that list. Cheap as cheats, and highly recommended!

Luke Rainbird
In a slightly random order due to being away, grabbing 5 minutes here and there between errands and bad weather Car's been looking like this for a couple of days while we've been up and down the country Trimmed/tweaked slam panel to create a little more room for the FMIC and remove a few siezed/snapped bolts/welded nuts. Will replace these with rivnuts for longevity. Quick bumper repair for the lower crack And a trim at the rear to tidy things up a little. When I fitted the FMIC I'd only got a drill to hand to this was trimmed very badly and looked rubbish. Quick Dremel to do things properly Hotel room last night backed onto the Porsche dealership rear car park. Few nice bits of kit in there (including a nice Z4m coupe) plus this Cayenne on stands which would have been prime for donating its brakes to the Leon! Old, "temporary" bracket (a piece of scrap 1mm mild steel) was meant to last me until the weekend when I got the car home and could pop something more permanent on the car. 9 months later... New bracket on (4mm, 35mm square section alu) and a nice load more space between the crash bar and the 'cooler as a result. Core is around 30mm further back than it was before. Big box arrived (banana for scale) Which contained Another box of course ...which contained two more boxes ...which contained new lights Most importantly, they've got a full set of these! Pulled the manual adjustment out of the new light units as I'd like to keep these road legal for obvious reasons. Adjustment motor in place Another package arrived with some more goodies Oh and I finally collected another piece of the puzzle too

Here's a picture of mine, I have no idea why it's like this but it happened while it was under the car cover last year.. The two white circles were due to it getting too hot (I don't know exactly, was previous owner) but since then the entire surface of the bonnet has become grainy and rough and seems to be worsening with time. Azarathal
Picked up a GTR spoiler, Going to paint the spoiler and bootlid gloss black. Realistically how good of a finish will I get with rattle cans? I've asked Rich for a few tips already as he's painted his mx5 but I'm after a few more pointers. friend of mine photoshopped the spoiler on + painted it so I've already got some idea of a finished product

MadManMike
I'm guessing because it's easier than trying to colour match. Same reason I nearly sprayed my old bonnet black
Azarathal
Pretty much because it's easier yeah, plus I think it looks pretty good in black so win win. Bootlid should be fairly straight forward however I'm thinking the spoiler will he a pita, fibreglass base/stands and Alu blade
Tom Booth
Personally if I was using rattle cans I'd go satin black, much easier to hide the fact it's been rattle canned
Danny
Get it painted properly or don't bother. It shouldn't cost too much. I was quoted £80 to paint a bumper so a boot should be similar.
