The Car Thread

I just rang FCM to find out how my car's getting on and the first thing the guy said was:

"Been in a crash has it?"

Fantastic.

As expected, lots of mangled bushes, settings not exactly right but it should be straight now.

I'm gonna gradually accumulate new arms and bushes then stick them on once I have the full set.

Sodding tyre companies using impact guns on wheel bolts... I now need at least 2 of my wheel bolts removed (locking ones with spinning outer rings), my tool broke removing one so I'm just paying VX to remove all 4 as the tool is £36 (maximum of £90 for all 4 extracted, should be less they reckoned). This is all so I can replace all for 4 discs and pads as the fronts are VERY worn now. I would weld some bolts to them and extract them myself but I don't have the time or a suitable welder near by that I can use.

My Porsche also needs a puncture repair and its MOT is due Saturday... the horn doesn't turn off so I need to investigate that as currently the relay is out to stop me being a rolling horn noise. I've done a bunch of other repairs, so hopefully it'll be fine after that is done. Fudging cars, why does it all come at once :(

Those 16s look good now it's lowered. Have you swapped the suspension from the b16'd one?

Got some cheapo coilovers off lee, the ek9 shocks are still on the B swapped shell. Looking to go for some decent ones next year.

Im still not a huge fan of them, I much prefer the car on 15"s.

After borrowing Stan's MX5 for a week, he's come back but Adam's off on holiday so I'm borrowing his.  Gone from Stan's non-geo-tweaked, non-power-steering, tiny steering wheeled car to Adam's tweaked, power-steering ferry wheeled car and it's sweet.  Felt really weird at first and I wasn't sure if I liked it, but had more of a drive tonight and it's really really nice.  Might have to go on a longer drive this weekend to see what it's really like...

Thats the audi sold :) few 100 negative equity but not to bad considering kerbed alloy and 2 new front tyres were needed.

Took the teg for a well deserved thrash last night with my 2 pals both in subarus silver stage 1 and blue 1 has a good few mods and i think remapped also.

Needless to say the teg held its own no bother who needs a turbo haha.

Sweet, get it done! Feel free to swap wheels / tyres if you like...

Back after a run in the civic and loving it.

Low mileage chassis feels so so good with everything being nice and tight, coilovers have stiffened everything up and it's feeling direct and quick through the steering. Need to take a look at some better pads. The brakes have been upgraded from standard with both larger discs and callipers. Initial bite is great, but they fade out fairly quickly which makes for interesting brake balance when the rears start doin more than the fronts...

Did an oil change today, car is running very nicely. Also replaced the ABS sensor which was giving me dash lights, so that's gone for now.

Also, think my clutch might be on it's way out. When the front of the car is in the air, engine running but in neutral, the front wheels spin. Could that be a sign that my clutch is out of adjustment or just dying? Also a very strange sound from the gearbox while this was happening, will try and get a video at some point.

Drag from gearbox oil will spin the wheels in that situation, don't worry about it.

To test the clutch, put the car in 5th while driving and boot the throttle from 2000rpm. If the clutch is on the way out the revs will rise quicker than road speed as the clutch slips, then revs will drop back again as it heats up and bites.

The other test: get it fully up to temp, clutch all the way down, in neutral, then increase the revs towards the limiter. If the car starts to creep that indicates an issue too.

So this may have happened today:

37omBCC.jpg

Ended up waking up at 5:30am for no apparent reason, so watched qualifying then took Twix for a walk round some form of reservoir (?).  Got back, jumped in the car then hit the road.  Had a really good run down, met up with my Mum for some lunch and stuff, then drove up to the Elan Valley.  Had a walk around there, then drove the ridiculously good roads in that neck of the woods.  Headed back for coffee and cake, then drove back up again.  Sun just started to set as I got on the boring dual carriageway/motorway section on the way back.  Blue skies, warm and sunny throughout otherwise.  That car is so much fun to drive.  Came back, had some food and walked Twix again, think it's time to chill out...

Beautiful, will give it a go, thanks.
