The Car Thread

Cheers, I'm desperate to get it back now, especially after selling the Passat a few months ago! To be honest there the same as most VAG stuff, mileage isn't really a problem providing there's history, no real rust issues or mechanical issues. My dads had 2, the first was a 61 plate we stuck 75k on that was faultless and the replacement is a 14 plate that's currently done 16k and again is faultless. It's defiantly a case of you get what you pay for though with them, there insane money for anything under 100k that's not SDI.

Just committed to join the 'car that works but is boring' brigade. BMW 120d M Sport has just been reserved to pick up on Saturday. Getting a cool £520 part exchange for the shit heap.

Only way the wife managed to convince me was that I get to have it remapped on Monday.

oh wow

so my car is coming up for an MOT in October so I was looking for 2 options:

A: sell it. sadly there is no car club or anything like that to drive her, and uni is 5 minutes of walking distance

B: try to push it through or if it fails then change it, so basically keep the car. If I keep it then story goes on until April, until I have my bonus 1

so I was having fun with confused.com and gumtree. I saw some fairly cheap ( under £1000) NB and some NA miatas, and I was like give it a go in confused

So my permanent address is in Northern Ireland, my temporary is in Leeds. If I say that the car is in Leeds, insurance is £1000, as much as for my Corsa for a full year

If I say that I keep my car in Northern Ireland, then insurance is £529 per year... that is less then the remainder for this years insurance.

Probably I will ( and I should) choose option one, especially because of the lack of car culture ( uni students tend not to have a car)... but sometimes its fun to play with these thoughts

If you get an NA MX-5, you'll be the guy at uni with a car.

You'll be the guy at uni that can only take one passenger.

That hot girl will be the one that gets a lift, because it's raining.

The next day, the sun comes out, as does the hot girl. You drive to the nice part of Leeds with the roof down (I assume there is a nice part of Leeds). You then get that ass. All that ass.

(This may or may not be true, but MX-5's are fun, as we all know. Buy one.)

As I mentioned previously i've been looking a lot into caddy vans recently. Although the more and more I look into them and vans in general they do seem like a lot of money for what they are so I've been considering cars again.

So I was going to ask for some suggestions that cater to my needs. I'd use it for commuting for short journeys to work while the weather is grim, hopefully big enough to get 2/3 mountain bikes and 2/3 people inside or it be relatively easy to get them on the outside, doesn't really have to be anything more than a 2 seater otherwise, be reasonably good on fuel but it's not a big priority, diesel or petrol doesn't bother me, be something not run of the mill and boring, be something not too bad to insure for a 21 year old with 4 years NCB and something I can put my own stamp on/customise moderately. Budget, ideally £3-4k but that can change if there is something that is right for the job.  Any pointers greatly appreciated. :)

I do really miss my van though having said all that now though :(

Spent f**king yonks getting those wheels sorted for the car. Spent a fortune on new tyres a month or so back. Wife then ploughed into a kerb and totalled one, so I've just had to go put part worn tyres on the old wheels again for the part exchange this weekend. £75 gone, which is a fair percentage of its value. I will be pleased to see this thing gone – I am not cut out for a project daily.

That said, I still want a garage and a project...

1.9 Tdi B5.5 passat, a million miles per gallon, fit 3 bikes with passengers in or on the roof. Epic reliability and comfort.

I took mine to wales with the orange and slept along side my bike a piece of cake.
