CurtisRider
J.Kydd: Check to see if the turbo has been replaced, I think it was up to that year that suffered from impeller blowing up issues. Get ready for the tackiest BMW interior ever encountered, it's cheap and nasty in there but does the job. Otherwise really good cars, my parents 2004 one has been near faultless in the 5 years they have owned it apart from needing the ECU refurbished due to water ingress, about a £700 fix in total but that's the only major thing that's happened (normal wear and tear parts aside). Pashley26
The colour doesn't do it for me. Also the ride height is ridiculous and I like a car fairly low, and if you were to buy coilovers you're pretty much negating the point of buying a trophy (come with special sexy ass sachs dampeners) which cost £1500 to refurb which you have to do fairly frequently iirc. They also come with the recaro trendline seats which aren't comfy or supportive at all despite looking it.They also don't come with xenons which you think it would being the top of the range clio sport. They're also really expensive. However. In the hands of a competent driver, they are unbelievably fast.
dann2707
Isn't any car though?
Pashley26
No. A 182 Trophy in standard form is considerably faster than the equivalent non trophy car. The Sachs dampers and the sensible ride height are what make them so good in the real world. On a decent A or B road a Trophy is 10x the car a genetically modified 182 is.
JD™
I'm with Dan. In the hands of a competent driver, any car can be unbelievably fast. The definition of fast changes depending on the car, and being on the limit seems (in my limited experience) to feel nearly exactly the same regardless of the power or cornering ability of the car. The limit is the limit, at the end of the day.

All my mates took the piss till a week later it hammered down with snow....
RobinJI
That clio trophy would look 10 times better with some bigger tyres. Surely that's not the standard size? If you're going to have a high purposeful ride height and small purposeful wheels it looks weird as hell without chunky purposeful tyres. AdamR28
being on the limit seems (in my limited experience) to feel nearly exactly the same regardless of the power or cornering ability of the car. The limit is the limit, at the end of the day. Hmm, I've found the limit varies wildly between different cars and how they are set up if they are the same model. Examples: Normal family saloon won't pull more than about 0.9g before it starts to understeer like a canal boat, standard MX5 on road tyres will pull about 1.1g, slap some better shocks, geo, lower it and track tyres and you'll touch 1.4g. Well set up kit car on slicks, 1.6-1.7g. Big difference in cornering speeds there! The Trophy dampers are pretty posh, those alone will make it significantly quicker than a standard one. Still, they are a lot of money for what they are, I'd defo have one over a standard 172/182 if they were the same price though!
JD™
I'm not sure if we're on a different page about the 'limit' or not here Adam, and you're the race driver so I'll concede all day long. Just to clarify my point in the mean time though, I've felt the same sensation in a Mk1 Fiesta at its 'limit' as I have in a V8 Vantage at its 'limit'. Loss of grip feels the same no matter what speed you're doing, in my experience. Again though, I concede that you have way more experience on track, so I know nothing! Haz
Official Clio rankings are as follows; Cup 172 > Trophy > Ph1 172 > Haz's Ph2 172 > 172/182 > Dan's 182 Simple.

Loss of grip feels the same no matter what speed you're doing, in my experience. Ooohhhh, apologies, I missed the point there. I would completely agree with the above! In that respect, a less grippy car will always be more fun too*, as the transitions between grip and slip will come and go more slowly. *Providing the handling is balanced. Luke Rainbird
Got/able to get a photo to help clarify? Sounds as though the DP needs to sit a touch higher to clear or something?

David
Got/able to get a photo to help clarify? Sounds as though the DP needs to sit a touch higher to clear or something? I'm seriously thinking of selling this car. f**king nightmare I've had today! Do still touching, everything is going to shit.Grr.
David
Right, f**k it. Had enough of playing with cars. Going to take it to the garage Monday and see what they can do. Then I seriously think I'll sell it. Can anyone recommend a 5 door diesel car for around £3-3.5k? Genuine question.
Luke Rainbird
Leon TDI? DP does seem to be sitting very low though. What brand is it? Would expect poor fitment from one of the cheaper brands, but the decent stuff shouldn't have any snags like that. Assume there's nothing weird going on with the position of the turbo/engine mounts etc that'd be causing the block/turbo to be sitting lower than usual? Ash-Kennard
Leon TDI? Probably not such a bad choice tbf. Is it bad that I am liking clios more and more
CurtisRider
I've not had much chance to work on the car these past few days but I found a few free minutes this evening to get the last bit of sanding done on the rear valance and white primer applied, should be able to get the top coat on soon! And I sprayed up the tops of my rear shocks ready for fitting Current height, I plan on getting the back a touch lower then do the front to match
David
I've calmed down a bit now, tools are all away and I'm showered. I hate being a perfectionist. Going to take the car to a garage on Monday and ask them to re-do everything I did today. I'll give them the old dp in case the new one is just crap. I did notice that the left side of the engine looked lower from the front. Maybe an engine mount is knackered? Will see what they say Monday. Don't think it's going to be cheap (never paid a garage to do anything before!)
