Luke Rainbird
So a fortnight after the Leon starting making some minging knocking noises I've still not had a chance to get underneath and snoop around properly. This is depressing me. Obviously buying a f**king house has killed funds bigtime so I can't really justify going out and spending money on the car to put right and would rather do it myself anyway, so I've decided to cross fingers, hold my breath and hope for the best for the next week until I'm on leave for a couple of weeks and can do it right. With that in mind, I've got a smattering of new poly bushes for the wishbones sat here and solid Silver Project top mounts and AP coilovers on the way. Need to pick up some new top mount bearings and maybe ball joints (assuming OEM will be ok on both counts?) to suit and some new bolts all round for peace of mind/simplicity then it should be game time while I can afford to take the car off the road for a week or two and give myself plenty of time around house shit. Question: I could do with picking up a reasonably priced, low entry trolley jack. Any suggestions?

Costco used to do a decent one for around £80 iirc, not sure if they still do but it's a decent bit of kit
SamKidney
Car overfuels massively on idle all the time now Will drop down to idle once I've stopped, sit there for 5 seconds normally followed by copious amounts of black smoke, fuel smell and lumpy idle. Maf sensor wasn't previously working but never caused a problem, has been replaced, and everything else seems to be working normally otherwise too. No fault codes or anything. dann2707
Track time from the weekend, I had loads of people coming up to me after telling me how well it was going on track and that I seemed to be one of the fastests drivers out on that session which made me feel really pleased! that cone moment was hilarious, had to commit to going through them too as we were really going for it. David
I think the time has come to start considering a diesel... I love my LC but doing 360 miles a week and averaging 35ish mpg is getting expensive. Diesel is cheaper than petrol ATM but I doubt that will last? The problem I have is I still want something quickish. Around 200bhp should do, but still after good economy. Budget would only be around £3k as I'm tight. How are the mk1 Leon tdi's? Luke Rainbird
I'm covering 360 a week in the LCR, certainly not a complete killer financially If you can pick up a pd130 it'll tune to around 180ish and likely fit the bill. The 150 had a number of issues and is best avoided really. Very doable for sub 3k, in fact it'd be possible to bit the car and sort it out to 180bhp for under 2k if you hunted in the right places. David
What mileage are you getting from the LCR, Luke? Its not killing me yet but I keep getting tempted to go hybrid etc! It looks like decent condition LCRs are almost impossible to find now. I think my next car may have to be post 2005 :| No idea what it would be, cheap turbo cars (not 1 litres) seem harder to come by nowadays? Luke Rainbird
I get 40mpg on a run. Overall average since I sorted power issues out is 38mpg, even with a failing turbo at present. I dent expect that to last once I sort the turbo and a new map out
Pashley26
I did 100 miles a day in my S3 for 6 months. You need to learn to drive economy style! I've always been able to get 40+MPG from my 1.8t's, you won't get that much more from the equivalent 1.9TDI.
CurtisRider
I could get beyond 60mpg from my 1.9tdi cars...
MartMini
64MPG on my last run, admittedly thats from a 90 non pd engine, but still
Pashley26
I could get beyond 60mpg from my 1.9tdi cars... I'm not saying you couldn't. But if I tried I could get 55MPG out of a 1.8t, so why the hell would you buy a soot chucker then contemplate modifying it to make it quicker and worse on fuel. Sense, it does not make. MadManMike
The 90 non-pd version is very sluggish, but great on fuel and very reliable. Granted I bought a lemon when I upgraded to the 150 pd, but from what I've heard they're not the best engines anyway, even if you get a reliable one. I still have a soft spot for Leon's... I sold my ibiza pd130 (remapped also to around 170) had various other mods too, for around 2k. So yup, definitely possible. Also worth noting I averaged 60+ on pretty much every journey, sometimes into the 70s! And now I get 25 ish....
