Wrayvon
Isn't it all booked up? Would cost me an arm and a leg getting to and from (20mpg ~) , but would certainly be fun...
AdamR28
It's not that far, only about 100 miles, and there is one place left at the moment...

CurtisRider
Car got a little bit hot today....hopefully get to tinker this coming weekend and get fixing the sod! It wouldn't start after i turned the engine off waiting in traffic, the starters very close to the manifold and has no heat shield so I guess I had better get fitting the heat mat stuff I bought bloody ages ago! I have ordered some coilover sleeves and a c spanner ready for converting some spare strut bodies, already got some coils and lock rings from some old golf coilovers that I can use and then start experimenting with spring rates, no idea what I need so I'll investigate that
MadManMike
Speaking of which, I just bought a load of heat wrap for my manifold as the standard heatshield won't fit over the new one... (Once I finally get it fitted)
AdamR28
Pre-warning: It will smoke like a bitch when it gets hot for the first time, and you'll think the car has set on fire
MadManMike
Good to know, I would have definitely panicked. I do carry a fire extinguisher in the cabin though

Danny
Is heat wrapping recommended? I know for Maniflow exhausts it voids the warranty as it causes them to crack.
Jolfa
Pre-warning: However much heat wrap you've bought, buy the same amount again, you'll need it
MadManMike
10m not enough? Was only going to do the 4 and 2, not all the way down to the
CurtisRider
How much difference does that stuff really make? My manifold gets rather hot and bakes loads of stuff near it
Wrayvon
I actually thought it was further away, I shall check the calendar... Alas it is my work party the night before, so there is no way in hell I will be able to drive, let alone drive around a track the next day! Whens TFTD3? george_seamons
And for f**k sake wear gloves and long sleeves. I didn't, and had arm aids for the next 48 hours. I used 10m to wrap a 3.5" downpipe, which was at the most a metre long. 10m will be nowhere near enough for a 4-2-1 manifold.
MadManMike
3.5" and a metre long is pretty big compared to what I'm wrapping though. The 4 branches are 2" at most and not very long. I would say the whole manifold is less than 1m and I don't plan to wrap all of it, only the parts nearest the air box.Cheers for the gloves tip, I probably wouldn't have done! george_seamons
A metre was probably a massive over estimation to be fair. Looking at the picture, I'd say 21" (533mm), based on there being ~6 "sections" of 3.5". Either way, it goes a LOT quicker than you think. Don't just wear gloves, you need your arms covered too. forteh
Aren't you meant to soak the wrap beforehand as well?
Jolfa
Supposed to wet it, never have. I used about a mile doing the 5 branch on my green Audi, and forgot gloves for the second time but at least I didn't do it in nothing but shorts on my bed like I did with my MK2 manifold, that was a huge mistake! CurtisRider
Heat shield is on my starter now, hopefully it'll be ok, it starts after about 15mins of letting it cool if the engine gets super hot like it has been. My car got into the red again today and didn't want get out of it even when moving, the gauge moved back and fourth every so often in tiny increments. Does this suggest the thermostat is being intermittent and therefore faulty? I assumed they either worked or they didn't! I'm going to take the radiator off this weekend and give it a flush out just as a precaution, I was wondering if there is sediment in there and it's not able to keep the engine cool once it gets really hot. I need to replace a coolant pipe as it's corroded heavily on the outside (was fine inside last time I checked) so I may as well clean the rad whilst everything is apart. Rowlly21
Have any of you had any experience with plastidip ? Would you recommend trying it on plastic grilles fog surrounds etc etc ?
MadManMike
Took my manifold to work today and borrowed a milling attachment for my drill. Put it in a vice and beasted the shit out of it. I didn't want to take too much material off, so I'm hoping I've done enough...
CurtisRider
I just got a pair of brand new MK2 golf gas shock inserts for my budget coilover build £12 including delivery from GSF! They are shorter than the Porsche ones so hopefully I won't have issues when jacking the car up and they won't die from being half compressed all the time. I will save up for some decent shocks all round over winter

Also VAG people, I will finally be getting around to fitting new suspension and brakes this coming weekend, I have an S3/LCR front ARB which did have some small plastic cylindrical washsers that the bushes fit around, mine have disintergrated and I don't seem to be able to source any elsewhere. Other than change the effective diameter of the ARB where the bushes mount do these spacers do anything else?
