MartMini
Getting the smoke off those in your eyes is the worst pain i was supprised how little smoke i had to be honest Isn't it easier and less painful to drill them out? probably taken the same effort, but the 30mm doesnt have a sleeve againt the arm, and i wanted to do as little damage to the arms as possible. Still running a mixture of 30/45mm wishbones? havnt decided which ones to go for yet, was bored and had a spare hour so thought i'd strip them both down anyway. considering how much effort it took to remove the bush, and that i'd be looking at uprated bushes, im still not sorn off the idea of using mk2 arms. I'll see what's about and how cheap/easy they are to get before deciding though
Luke Rainbird
Copypasta from getting up to speed from my thread on SCN. Nothing too interesting really but it's a few more pictures on the page if nothing else Last time I posted I'd just received the 90* reducer elbows I needed for my FMIC install and was waiting on the arrival of some JCS HiGrip clamps for plumbing the system in. Well, these arrived a few days later: I grabbed a can of matt black spray and gave the core a quick dusting. Whilst it's clear a lot of folks like these to stick out like a sore thumb with silver coolers, colourful pipework and cutting half the bumper off that's not really my thing so in keeping with the OEM+ kind of thing this suits me far better! Step 1: Pull things off that are in the way Step 2: Out with the old Step 3: In with the new Step 4: Run out of time and have to leave the car 99% done for the night Step 5: Finish work the following day and finally get it all sorted properly Initial impressions are good - logs show slightly cooler temps with normal driving and staying lower when pushing on a bit too. No noticeable increase in turbo lag so happy on that front too. Little bit of tidying up to do at some point just because I'm a bit of a tart like that, but that's almost solely aesthetics rather than functional.Word to the wise though: Use a f**king Dremel to trim your bumper. I had one at home but not on base and there wasn't one to hand when I was doing this which meant I ended up using a drill and joining the dots - what should have been a 30 minute job took around 2 hours in the end Tyres were getting a little lower than Id like so have thrown on my spare set of R32 rims which all have 6mm+ rubber on. Will keep them on for a little while for daily use until I can refurb the LCR wheels and get some fresh tyres on them. Having had a fairly decent chat with Prawn about his Kumhos I'm currently planning on getting hold of a set of those, but will do a little more homework when the time comes. The wheels were pretty grimy from storage, so gave them a quick scrub before fitting - just enough to get the worst of the crud off. Gave the brakes a quick clean to assess the paintwork too. Came up fairly well but once dry it was evident that the lacquer is pretty cloudy. Will get them repainted at some point down the line. Cheers to the old man for lending a hand! Got a few other little bits sorted recently too. First up was sorting out the centre caps on my other half's Golf as they were looking a little worse for wear. Much improved for under a fiver! Dogbone swap on the same car too - old one was cracked and the bush mega worn - New OEM bush and bolts in a spare mount I had has made a world of difference. Have had a bit of a play helping ou

Mark W
A bit of a random question that somebody here may hopefully be able to help with: I've sort of become the owner of a (really, really shit) car. It belongs to my sister/her husband. At the moment, it's registered under his name, and is taxed until the end of August. It's insured through my sister, with me as a named driver, but the insurance runs out on the 1st July. The plan is that I'll get my own insurance on it on the 1st July, then sort out all the V5/Tax shit. This is all well and good but her husband has had to apply for a new logbook as the correct logbook had previously been sent to the wrong address. He just got a letter through from the DVLA saying they're processing his application on the 2nd July and he should receive the new logbook within 5 working days of that date. The possible problem for me is that when I go to get insurance it asks who the legal owner and the registered keeper are. It says "Are you (or will you be) the blah blah blah", and as I will be I'm assuming that it's OK for me to get insured on it for the 1st, then when the new V5 shows up send it back to the DVLA to get my name put in it and then tax it? Or would there be a bit of a shitstorm pending? TL;DR - I need to insure and drive a car from the 1st July, but can't get the logbook changed (and re-do the tax) until some time after the 2nd July. Is this going to be OK?
JDâ„¢
It'll be reet. 'My friend' drove around in a car still registered to someone else for a couple of years with no issues.
Mark W
Cheers dude. I think the main reason I'm a little hesitant is because my sister's husband has to go to court about an issue with the insurance it's currently being used with. Basically, their insurance company made a f**k-up (somehow) and insured it with a reg number that was one letter out. They got pinged by an ANPR camera back in October because the car showed as not being insured. However, due to the DVLA having "not received" the previous V5 with updated address the court letters and stuff got sent to an old address, so the first they found out about it was when a bailiff's letter came through the door a month ago saying they owed £X. Fortunately their insurance company came forward and said that the vehicle had been correctly insured but it was just an administrative error, so that charge has been dropped. Still have to go to court to tidy it all up though as it turns out the only thing worse than dealing with HMRC and the DVLA is dealing with the DVLA in court. Second appearance to do the same thing. Nice work... Anyway, more interesting stuff - losing the back end at 5th gear in the dark doesn't look like much fun. Seems like people have recently been suggesting they should get rid of blue flags in F1 so people have to fight their way through the field, but seeing the amount of lapped cars taking out the lead cars makes that seem less than ideal: The actual highlights only last for the first 10mins, the second 10mins is the equivalent of winning a cup on MarioKart and having to go through a f**k-off long podium cut scene.
AdamR28
On a similar note, I was keeping an eye out for cars for you and saw a nice looking 02 plate Almera somewhere around here for £520. Mum had one for a few years and it was mega reliable. Forgot where it was located though. You're welcome. (I'm sure I could find it again if you wanted! Mark W
You're welcome. Haha, thanks The car I've got I basically had for free, save for paying for the repair to the alternator. The 'bad' part of it is it's only a 1.2l petrol so it's dog slow, but it's relatively young (55 plate), and was owned an old man before who didn't really drive it much at all. It's in really good condition apart from the fact that there is damage to literally every single panel of the bodywork. He must have pretty much driven it like a f**king bumpercar. Jesus, you have my sympathy! As an example of the bullshit they're pulling, he got told that the second court date was a couple of weeks after the first, and he in essence needed to provide the DVLA with a document the DVLA had to show to the DVLA that the DVLA had it, but it was going to take up to 15 working days for him to receive it which would have been after the court date.

Jolfa
As an example of the bullshit they're pulling, he got told that the second court date was a couple of weeks after the first, and he in essence needed to provide the DVLA with a document the DVLA had to show to the DVLA that the DVLA had it, but it was going to take up to 15 working days for him to receive it which would have been after the court date. Related but going off the car thread theme, I once went through several weeks of arguments with HMRC about documents I should have submitted but never received, which in essence meant I was the only one man partnership in the UK, which the woman at the tax office failed to sort despite confirming she had (for the third time), which lead to a £1000 fine, which lead to £50 in compensation for causing me stress! Useless bastards! It was a nightmare getting mine and my Mrs' tax affairs straight before leaving the country too. But of course people claiming benefits is the problem with the UK's money problems* *See political thread Edit - remembered the time we had to provide HMRC with a partnership number which we couldn't get without an individual tax number, which we couldn't get without a partnership number, which.... Mark W
Those f**kers do love a good impossible circle. Similar thing with this biz too - as he was trying to appeal the fine (fine was for no insurance, he had insurance), he phoned up the DVLA but they said he had to follow the appeal procedure on the letter he would have received. He told them he hadn't received the letter as it had gone to an old address. They said that he had to follow the appeal process on the letter and that was the only help they could give. The guy he was speaking to basically hung up at that point, so he had to call them again and speak to someone else who'd give more info. Haha, sounds awesome. Cars you don't have to give a shout about are the bestest. Make sure you give it a good Italian tune-up I've tried, but I generally reach my destination before it gets to the giddy heights of 60mph. It seems once you're in 4th, pressing the accelerator just makes more noise. One fun thing about it though is that it's so short that when I have the seat in a position where I can fit my legs under the steering wheel, I look like I'm pretty much driving from the back seat. Reverse parallel parking to my left hand side is also pretty hard as the footwell is so tight that my left foot seems to f**k up the steering column somehow and mean I can't turn properly. Go Team France.
LukasMcNeal
Ahh getting a new car friday and the thing I'm most excited for is adjustable steering rake height as currently my 6ft 5 body goes more around the wheel than under it.
