JD™
That's kind of right. 24 and 25 frames per second are both common, and work out to 1 frame every ~0.04s. To get a decent timelapse you've got to work backwards. Decide how long you want the video, work out how many frames you need for that to work, then set up the camera to take a pic every so many seconds to make that work. So if you want to make a one minute movie you need 1500 pics at 25fps. If you took 25 minutes to change the tyres (I know, unlikely) you'd be taking a picture every second. Still, yay! Skoze
I really like the idea of owning one of these at some point in my life. :$ What's the insurance like on it Skoze? Does it qualify for classic car insurance and hence be cheeeap? My 3.0 modified to around 180bhp is £350 fully comp at 21 (22 now) with 2 years NCB, parked in the street with my girlfriend on the policy. That does sound cheap... Hmm. You sound thoughtful... It's up for sale again as all the bits for mine have arrived the day after this turned up - typical. Had a guy offer to put a holding deposit down within 5 minutes of it going up at £3250 - it's worth that in parts all day long and has test til September. Will need welding in the next few years, but find me one that doesn't! A lot of car for not a lot money, i've not seen one on the road this cheap in years so it made sense to have it when it came up, even if it can't stay. Prawny Baby
I tried it at a much shorter frame length, but as you say, the whole lot lasted about 8 seconds

Wow, that's much cheaper than I was expecting. Is it on a super limited miles policy? When I hit 21 I'm going to buy something fun like this, especially with insurance like that
dann2707
The money you'd save would be outweighed by the fuel money you'd go through but that'd be outweighed by all the bitchez you'd get.
CurtisRider
And you'll be grinning more in something that cool, I begrudge taking the modern daily out as it just bores me to death compared to the 924

AndrewEH1
Well finally managed to change the electric window cables on the drivers side of the MX5, all in took about 5 hours across a couple of days. A complete ball ache doesn't begin to explain it...

When I hit 21 I'm going to buy something fun like this, especially with insurance like that 8000 miles or something? You won't do more than that in a year... And if you do, you can get the clocks out and rewind a few miles in an afternoon. Not that i've ever done that, of course Dan's sort of got a point about fuel, but if you want a fun car you just need to accept it'll cost a few quid more to run it than a modern - however, you'll struggle to lose a lot of money on the car itself so that's something in favour. I got near 30mpg on a run cruising at 60 (mine's a 4 speed with a bucket and chuck it carb, gets down to mid-high teens around town) but if you got one with a Zetec or something it'd beat that consistently regardless of where you're driving it. Fun cars are a luxury, you just accept the running costs and roll with it. For the sake of a few quid every fill up, i'll put vpower in it because it's just not a regular car... Does make sense to have ti as a second car if you can, but it's more than viable to use daily if you want to.
Azarathal
I agree on the cost=smiles per mile thing, £600 per year insurance at 22 with 2years ncb + all mods declared, averaging 18-22mpg around town but will hit 38ish on a long run and the cost doesn't bother me, even though tax is roughly £250 a year it still outweighs it. I could be in a boring modern car but I think I'd only drive when I had to as opposed to to days like today, took the roof off and did about 35miles just randomly driving. In other news, I've been looking around and for £5k I could get a pretty sorted s14a, I could also get an R33 and even possibly an E39 m5. Not sure whether I should go for some slidey jap fun or a straight piped euro box. Hmmm...
CurtisRider
I just 3D printed a NACA duct for my headlight covers, I'm thinking something like this: I will need more air for the intake when I go 1.8t as the intercooler will block off quite a lot of the usual air path and I want to keep the filter as close to that side as possible so it's away from the exhaust manifold and therefore less likely to get heat soak issues (please correct me if i'm missing something here!). I'm worried this will look a bit wannabe though, but I can't think of any subtle solutions. I have a spare headlight cover so I might as well try it
AndrewEH1
How is the airflow when the lights are up?
CurtisRider
Instead of directing air on top of the filter it'll hit it centrally from total guess work, it'll certainly flow to the filter nicely still. I was thinking of ditching the pop ups and going with the GT lights but I think it starts to lose its 80's cool factor if I do that and then I lose the extra air too
AndrewEH1
Pop-ups are so much better, you can't get rid of them!
Prawny Baby
Keep the pop ups. Is there much room behind them? Are you going to get much air in there? I'm not convinced it'll make any real difference, but it might be a cool little project to have a go at!

CurtisRider
Yeah the pop ups do make me smile every time I use them. There is room behind, why? it's where the stock airbox sits Do I go single or double? If double do I have them inline or staggered?
AndrewEH1
Double stagger looks better imo. Better to have two in either configuration I would think? But maybe have the outside vent set back to follow the curve of the front of the car? Edited May 29, 2015 by AndrewEH1
CurtisRider
Yeah I meant to align it to the curve before taking the photo, I think you are right with the double. I'll get the marker pen out and get cutting later! Cars going to be chavalicious

Luke Rainbird
Pop ups ***. twin smaller projectors and air inlets surrounds? (That makes no sense and is mega unclear - will scribble something when I'm back on the computer and haven't been awake for 30 hours!) AdamR28
They will have run a different format Dan, but it works out about a 26s lap for the 'outer' circuit, I think. My MX-5 was doing about 31-32s so I think you'll have been in the 30s.

That way I gain better lights too and can go HID, these bowl things ain't great even with upgraded bulbs and loom. I found that chain guide I printed you yesterday, totally forgot I had it! Ash-Kennard
For the 900th time across both here and Facebook, what was your time??? Hahah 27.98s was his best time, but he was consistently sub 28.5s, passengers, no passengers, shit laps etc. Virtually everyone got their best laps in 3-4th lap of the day. Think the weather got a bit too humid after lunch. Beasted it to first place with 2nd being a mk2 golf hitting 28.06s and then complained all the way home that he didn't smash his PB. But that's Nick. Never happy without obvious improvement, however I think his consistency speak volumes. Anyways, my car work plan this holiday has completely changed after hitting a deer on the way to Nick's before Curborough. Headlight dead, bumper paint missing (No cracks found so far), fog light grill section smashed, Arch lining ripped out, and I found out today my tracking is quite wrong. The way I found this out was picking up my freshly powder coated rims and 235 Kumho tyres. Fitted and the LH side, where the deer hit, now scrubs over any bump on the arch due to the significant toe out (Ewww) and unfortunately all the roads near me are shite. So that is a lot of scrubbing. On the plus side, ill be fitting new lights, including wiring in the angel eyes hopefully, fitting new fog light grill, fitting new arch liner and vinyl wrapping the bumper as I was quoted £492.92 for a bumper respray I will also be bleeding brakes, changing oil level sensor, new air and oil filter and fresh oil. God I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow. Will be miserable otherwise.
