HippY
Function over form yet you changed the functional exhaust tip to another one, because it looks cooler?
MartMini
yet you changed the functional exhaust tip to another one, because it looks cooler? Nick wouldnt have changed just the tip It'll be a complete performance exhaust
HippY
Nick wouldnt have changed just the tip It'll be a complete performance exhaust so it is not a CATback exhaust system, but a backboxback exhaust system?
Jolfa
God that "exhaust" looks shite So I just bought these. Kinda happy they're the same colour as my car! They're light, they're 15" and they gonna look aweeeeesssommeeeeeee What do people think? I'm pretty much set on it (RS vents) so I'll most likely end up doing it but gathering opinions I'm afraid you're not allowed an opinion on car styling anymore. MartMini
so it is not a CATback exhaust system, but a backboxback exhaust system? I'm not sure if you understand the terminology, of those words, (and if you do and im just telling you how to suck eggs, im sorry!) Cat-back simply means all the exhaust from the catalytic converter to the back of the car. Turbo-back is from the turbo to the back of the car. I've never heard anyone use the word 'backboxback'. You basically mean the tailpipe Edited May 26, 2015 by MartMini

Cat-back simply means all the exhaust from the catalytic converter to the back of the car. Turbo-back is from the turbo to the back of the car. I've never heard anyone use the word 'backboxback'. You basically mean the tailpipe well, technically he was not replacing/recreating the exhaust system from the cat/turbo (catback turboback) but replacing the "exhaust system" behind the backbox ( hence the backboxback system, created by me for this situation ) but now I see where I got confused! I mixed up your car with his car (black bumper with a straight pipe) still I do not understand that exhaust tip:/
MartMini
That's a compliment, my cars a heap compared to Nick's! It's not really a stylish tip, mines just a bit of 2.5" stainless pipe sticking out the back
Pashley26
Also worth noting that Prawns car, through some sort of gypsy magic is stupidly quiet. Prawns car is quieter than most cars with an after market exhaust, despite just being a bit of pipe.

Prawny Baby
I Just did! That WAS my exhaust, and still is!I didn't change my tailpipe. my exhaust is 3'' stainless pipe. it got to the end of the car, so the pipe ends. It's that simple.but yea, it really is just a bit of pipe:Went to Curby yesterday:Was fun
CurtisRider
If that exhaust was slash cut it would look infinitely better! Have you got a sound clip of your straight through system Nick?
Pashley26
I have. Compare that to my old S3 haha. Edited May 26, 2015 by Pashley26

Pashley26
1.8t's have a very "dull" sound. They sound really deep, and kind of go "burrrrrrrrrr" rather than the usual sound. Very boring 4 pot. My old S3 had a really odd almost M3 like induction noise, and my Mk2 sounds like a jet fighter because of the exhaust restriction. But other than that there isn't really much to comment on with 1.8t exhausts. You can hear the air forcing its way through the restriction and change in exhaust in my Mk2. My old A3 had a twin slash cut Miltek with a decat and 2.5" exhaust, and sounded quite raspy because the back box was so old and had nothing in it. Here's Prawns old A3 (and him getting shot in the leg) with the Mk1 of his current track car exhaust. And here's my old Mk2. Which sounded like a machine gun... Are we all exhausted after that? SamKidney
Put some different plugs in the micra today. It doesn't like them.
CurtisRider
Seeing as we are on page 924 and my car is a 924 this is necessary. I recorded my Dansk exhaust today, I love the noise my car makes and I love the little flames it spits when changing up Shame it's not very fast but the car really does make me smile massively every time I drive it! I also rebuilt my rear brakes after having the parts 2 years! It was all good apart from seized adjusters and one of the slave pistons was stuck. george_seamons
Talking of exhausts, I've just ordered this for mine. It's an absolute beauty, apparently the metalwork and welds are out of this world (wants to be for the price!!!). I have gone for a 3" "Sports" resonated system. I was very conscious that I didn't want it silly loud, and NO drone (been there, done that!). Also paid the extra for a 3.5" downpipe, hopefully that will free it up a bit more too Took it for its first proper thrashing after fitting the intake and fuel pump at the weekend. It's quick, but just feels a bit "numb" at the moment. New cars are too refined and safe, haha. Being pushed through a corner rather than pulling through is an odd sensation at first! I like it though

CurtisRider
The 5 pots do sound rather tasty, I can never find them for a sensible price though
