The Car Thread

Fair play for seemingly just breezing around the outside of everyone like it's nothing :P Some good lines/overtakes in there! When I saw you guys were looking for numbers I was tempted to make the trip up. That place was pretty fun, and after having another karting hit relatively recently at the (ridiculously fun) Cardiff indoor track I wanted to have another go. This is the Cardiff one for reference - no idea if this video's got anything good in it but it shows you what a lap of the place looks like:

Haha, yeah, same thing as beating the dudes who rock up at paintball with their own overalls, guns and so on...

The Cardiff one's pretty good, especially 'cos after a few laps the tyres are pretty much on fire and it just gets nice and slidey in a fun, predictable way. The top section over the bridge is cool too - you can just about take it all flat out, and if you do you kind of launch off into the downslope and then have to try and wrestle it around that hairpin immediately afterwards. Pretty rewarding when it goes right. That place is pretty cheap too from memory :)

Sorry to those on FB that have already seen, but...

I DONE FIXED IT.

Took 5 hours today to finish removing the manifold, drill the shit out of it and then re-fit everything (Had to remove the downpipe too).

Car took a while to start again once I'd re-assembled it, but a bit of right foot sorted that out :)

Winner.

Here's the noise, sounds shit in the video so I'm going to do a better recording at some point.

Chucked some new oil and a filter in the Porsche, adjusted the front wheel bearings as the ns was rather loose and gave it a good wash. Not sure if it is a placebo effect but the car felt very sprightly and nimble this evening :) Must have lost some weight after its wash :P

I bought in a 944 S2 today in PX, £800.

I'll ping you a PM if they will let me buy it :)

Nice one Mike, glad you're getting stuck in, you won't find a much better car to start learning some mechanics on than the MX-5.

Just ordered an entirely new fuel system for the Scirocco, literally everything between the tank outlets and the fuel rail. So the mission over the next week or two of evenings will be to drop the fuel tank to give it a good clean out and strip out all the old system (Not very fun as it involves removing the rear axle and I know my rear shocks lower bush is seized in place on both sides :() I also need to make some sort of housing up as the fuel pumps and swirl-pot will be living in the cabin, but I want some sort of firewall between them and me so I'll make a box around them vented to the outside.

I would certainly be interested, cheers Jardo! I'm actually going to look at a 944S locally tomorrow for £850, but it needs an MOT... I'm hoping I can keep the 924 as well and just tuck it in a shed until I'm ready to give it some proper attention, just like the other classics I own :P
