Pashley26
Bread knife is an 'in joke' between my select circle of friends from when I fitted the front mount to my A3 with nothing but a bread knife. And ruined it. - In case anybody is enjoying the steam train progress of my Mk2, here's more updates. This morning I changed the lower arms. Because. At standard height, with the wheels on the ground, I could flex the lower arm joint (bottom ball joint removed, but both arm bolts tight, obviously...) all the way to the floor. Yummy. I did attacked the steering arms tool; however having had war and peace with a track rod end before 9AM I thought...You know what, I'm an idiot, but I'm not that much of an idiot. And decided not to, because I couldn't win that war on my drive way so you know what? I'll absolutely ruin it in the workshop. Then I swept my patio, very fun. Then this was delivered so I tried to fit it, but the nut on the top of the engine mount was so tight I decided you know what, CBA with that. Then I took the roof off. Utilised an old sideboard as a paint booth. Booya. Then these got delivered. Which is good because these are f**ked. I haven't driven it yet, because after that I went to the pub (on my own) drank 6 pints of stella and ate a burger. So I can't comment on how sublime the handling is. I'm not expecting any praise, and I don't care if nobody cares, but I want to say it...Just because... I'm cracking through progress on this piece of shit at an alarming rate. **And then I washed and polished it. But before the pub. JD™
You need a nibbler. You can get electric ones. Would you be able to get power? That was my first thought - seen ones that you can attach to a drill so I could potentially run off batteries if they don't supply power. Unless that's going to be a shit idea? MadManMike
Pretty rubbish for turning corners though..! Depends what you're after. In my 115bhp rwd car it provides enough grip to drive fast and enough slide to have fun when I want to.

Azarathal
Helped fit a gearbox to a Volvo V50 today, it taught me if I'm ever unfortunate enough to own a V50 and anything clutch/box etc breaks to buy a new car. Even with multiple jacks and an engine hoist it was an absolute fanny of a job. I supposed many a beer didn't help but still, f**k that. TrialsIsHard
Have you got paint flaking on the arch too or is that the light?

TrialsIsHard
That looks like flaky paint so much! Still mega unlucky, maybe you should stick to the middle of the road In semi-related news, I have my car parked on a pretty steep slope near my uni house and I spotted a guy parking literally an inch from the front of my car. I walked past slowly and there was no contact at all with ample space for me to reverse out, can't work out if I'm really angry that he was so close or impressed he managed it without touching.
Jolfa
Jardo, I thought you were colour coding that roof panel? And don't bother with a solid front mount, I got through 3 engine brackets (snapping them) and vibrated pretty well every nearby nut and bolt loose in my old MK2 thanks to one of those, urgh. Get hockey pucks they offer a little bit of give so you don't just f**k shit up!

haydon_peter
The problem is going to be claiming on insurance, look at Tic's issues and that guy was actually insured and everything. That bullshit took 18 months to sort even though the guy was arrested on scene and charged with 'Driving without care'. Until he admitted fault and the claim was settled it was considered a fault claim by my insurance company and nearly caused me serious issues when insuring the Passat that replaced the Leon. Luckily the accident happened really close to when my insurance was due for renewal so I had already been sent a renewal quote with 10 years protected no claims listed, after a quick phone call to check the quote and arguing with the insurance company that they had given me a renewal with proof of no claims dated AFTER the accident I hung up because they wouldn't play ball and were trying to charge me silly money. So I phoned another company and got a great quote even after declaring the accident as 'Hit by 3rd party, claim not yet settled', I told them that I had 10 years protected no claims and posted them proof of it

AdamR28
Pretty rubbish for turning corners though..! Seamons will tell you what happens when you send a hairdresser mobile with those size wheels around Snetterton, then a 'tweaked' Leon around the same track

Mark W
Just saw this on WTF1 - when it's happening so close to you you're getting fluids from a crashing car on your lens and you don't even flinch the shot, you're doing it right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKMjupRGAEI
Pashley26
So today I have done very little. What's the one thing that really upsets NL Police the most? This came out. (The cat owns it now) And donated something. To give me this. I still haven't decided what harnesses I want, but I need to work out the height of the seat and the ergonomics of the interior. So I thought I'd best fit it all in so I can drive it around remotely legally whilst still being able to gauge how the interior is going to be with the seats in. Things this has taught me; The deep dish steering wheel messes with the driving position. The seat needs to be a minimum of 2'' lower. The sliders are absolutely necessary. I need to stop drinking sugary carbonated drinks. Then I removed the sun visors, and we all know why. BRC. I'm going to see somebody tomorrow, so I might clean it especially for them :thumb:
Mark W
Wouldn't you have been better off waiting to strip them out after you've got some sort of sun strip? Kudos for the progress in any case
Pashley26
I'm quite well known for my huge sunglasses, which come with me everywhere rain or shine. So the requirement for sun visors is minimal. Also, I've NEVER used sun visors. I think it's because of my dad, when I was a kid if I pulled the sun visor down he'd snap it back up and say 'You're not a f**king race car driver, put some sunglasses on.' And they're worth £30 on eBay. You wouldn't drive round with £30 screwed to your roof would you
AdamR28
You wouldn't drive round with £30 screwed to your roof would you Is that why you have a gash bit of aluminium sheet strapped to your roof instead of a carbon skin?
Mark W
Cool, well hopefully your sunglasses have got decent UV protection so you're not just slowly blinding the f**k out of yourself being "not a racing driver" in your "racecar"
