Pashley26
Why would I leave the sun roof, I could have used a brick and a hack saw to remove the sunroof and it would have looked better than if I had of just left the sunroof in. It really isn't that big a deal, it's a mornings work and a bit of paint. You guys do make me laugh.

george_seamons
You guys do make me laugh. Not as much as you make us laugh! You've f**ked it. It looks shit. You cannot just cover it up. No matter what you do, it'll be noticeable.
Pashley26
Difference is, you care more than I do. I couldn't give a f**k.
Azarathal
But the sunroof was downforce, you're removing racecar components from racecar
AdamR28
It never was a racecar anyway so it doens't make a difference...
Pashley26
Think of all the skills I will learn from having a go on this Mk2. As Luke said I'm clearly learning, because a year ago there wouldn't be a roof left. It's better to have tried and failed than to just pay somebody else to do it. Pashley26
I have purchased a new roof, and acquired a fitter of said roof in exchange for a cup of coffee. However, the seller of the roof wants me to buy his full shell, which already has Brembis, mega suspension, roll bars, adjustable lower arms, camber top plates, a roll cage, seats, bias valve and new lines, wide track everything. For less than buying a cage and fitting it. Same color as my Mk2, but mint. Edited April 12, 2015 by Pashley26
Mark W
Had any initial thoughts on how you're going to f**k that one up or are you just going to let it all happen organically?
Danny
So you bought it? What doesn't it include? Is it just a case of bolting your engine in?

Pashley26
Hilarious story. The person selling it doesn't actually own it; and the person who owns it hasn't paid the guy who did a load of work on it. So the guy who did a load of work on it has it sat outside his unit and won't give it back until it's sold. The unit it is sat outside is owned by the guy fitting my roll cage. I'll avoid getting involved in this one.
ManxTrialSpaz
I've just remembered my coolant light came on in my car when I last drove it. I wasn't particularly ragging it and the engine temp was normal so I'm assuming it's just a coolant level warning. I'd check it now, but my car is parked across town. Would anyone disagree with my initial assessment?
Luke Rainbird
Should be about right. Lots of coolant flowing through the system = less in the expansion tank which is usually the location of the sensor

george_seamons
Busy day today, started my LSD install. Spent an age drilling the rivets out, they were mega hard! Needed a 10 ton hydraulic press to get the studs in too...fortunately I was doing it in a friends workshop! Box split open after removing 234565 bolts. Standard open diff showing. Drilled the 12 rivets out to seperator the crown wheel, then chucked the stock diff in the bin Crown wheel cleaned up and ready to meet the new LSD LSD split open, with the top half cleaned ready to be mated to the crown wheel (look at all those metally guts!) All the nuts fitted (with the supplied lube), and torqued to spec Backside of the new LSD, showing the ridiculously expensive (£120 for 12!!!) ARP studs pressed in The guts of the VAG 02M, in all their naked glory!
Danny
How many million tolerances do you need to check when putting it back together? Gearboxes scare me but I guess they ain't too bad once you know how.
george_seamons
The only thing I am changing is the diff and the bearings on either end. There is a shim installed between the gearbox casing and one of the bearing races to take up any slack. Apparently the stock shim is normally sufficient...but knowing my luck I will have to order one! I think the tolerences are fairly reasonable to be fair. I am hoping to get the box back together next weekend, but if I need a shim it won't be until the following weekend. The diff is currently in my freezer shrinking slighlty awaiting the installation of the bearings (which will go in the oven to expand them slightly). Doing it this way should mean there is no need to press the bearings on. Fortunately the missus hasn't yet opened the freezer door
Luke Rainbird
Should make a pretty big difference I'd imagimagine, just a bit of work to get there!! I was chatting to a chap near home last night who does VAG remapsAfter and has a modified Leon himself. He's offered to put my car back to a standard map for free if I pay for him to dyno and log it himself which I'm more than happy with. Hopefully make it a little easier to track down the issues which are now almost certainly turbo or software, unless it's a case of crap parts from GSF...! george_seamons
Tried the actuator yet? I'd put money on it losing its springiness after 12 years!
