Wait what?

What about tax, insurance, mot etc? Did the DVLA never contact you?

Insurance tax and mot were all due to run out at the end of the month. Never heard owt to this day.

My Astra has been vague on the steering recently and had a lumping when turning at times. Turns out my wishbone bushes have a rather shocking amount of play in them! I've ordered enough stuff for a full overhaul (minus springs and shocks) and I'll get it tracked along with new tyres as these current ones are tripe. Money I didn't want to spend on it but i'd rather it was safe

Today I ended up doing loads more than I thought I was going to.

Got up this morning, had some cat cuddles in the sun.

10408592_1617471805134661_51098497030778

Breakfast.

10985936_1617471781801330_83847116235450

What does this mean?

11138545_1617471755134666_18503763417327

There was a horrible loom for the bi-xenon's, it's clearly been there a long long long time judging by the antiquated shit I took out.

I know they took ages, and I know they work really really well but I just don't think a Mk2 looks like a Mk2 without this.

11059417_1617471528468022_21206186809027

So I'm going to upgrade the loom, purchase some new headlights and have another try at a more OEM installation.

After I'd removed the old loom, remade some sort of loom for the original H4 lights which were thankfully still in my spares box with all the connectors I set about a task I didn't know I had to do.

One f**ked auxiliary drive belt!

Less than two minutes to remove, less than two minutes to refit :)

11133818_1617471608468014_17720722627459

Swapped the plugs out for some BKR7E's.

13711_1617471555134686_36320341364157863

Maybe running a tad lean, but it'll do for now.

Removed a load of unnecessary wiring from under and behind the dash, a load of the shit that's in the engine bay left over from the loom. The loom is branded Vagtronics loom, so I phoned them and found out they had on record everything that was done to the loom and the specification of the ECU and what requirements were removed from it. Which is nice.

If you can't polish a turd, you might as well try...If all else fails just roll it in glitter.

1422469_1617471465134695_484717729685250

Washed it twice, went over it with my little gaylord brush.

1911848_1617471425134699_574008568792623

Riiiimz.

11149361_1617471361801372_39912004189146

Then I machine polished it, properly this time.

Then washed it again and did all the door shuts and things with my gaylord brush.

Waxed it.

Done.

Yeah can do, when you move in. I'll have to clean out the double garage so that I can get the Golf in there, you'll have to use the hard standing.

:P

The super dooper man who is fitting the roll cage just gave me a call for a catch up and to ask me when I wanted to bring the cage to him. Going to fit it at some point towards the end of May.

Such a lovely bloke.

So I've done a bunch too but I put it on the Clio forum, so here's a link.

Cliff notes:-

  • Bilstein B14 coilovers that I bought months ago.
  • Roll Center and bump steer correcting hubs.
  • New ABS sensors
  • Aerocatches
  • Wheels
  • #becauseracecar

Questions:

  • It's being set up on Monday, ride height, corner weight & full geo. What settings do people use on their FWD road/track cars? I was thinking -1.5 deg camber and -0.1' toe?
  • What colour do I get the rims refurbed in? I like the idea of matte black, but the silver looks pretty good!
  • Which tyres do I go for? Reasonably priced track rubber... AD08R, NS2R, etc?

1) Toe looks good, somewhere between there and 0.2deg is nice. Camber I would push to 1.8-2.0. Make sure they do your corner weighting properly! http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/setting-corner-weights-a-second-opinion/53213/page1/

2) Matt black is good (for brake dust reasons, and I like contrast, either dark car and light wheels or light car and dark wheels).

3) NS2R in medium.

Looks really tidy dude. Not normally a fan of aero catches all over the place but seems to work - not sure if the washer covers should be colour matched to the body though, looks quite "busy" in that area now. Do you use them? If not, remove that shit <heads to photoshop...>

Jardo, you got pictures of where you drilled through the bulkhead for the internal gearchange?

I'm semi tempted to do it to mine for various reasons, but it looks like my heater's ducting will be in the way :(

If I get the front end resprayed, I'd get the washers smoothed over, yeah.

colour matching the blanks would make it look alot better?

And yess, I have a leaking exhaust

The car got louder, and it is getting louder on daily basis. Was not sure what causing it, as my valves are loud too

in the morning I started the car cold, and tada, the mesh part that connects the downpipe to the back tube was fuming beautifully...

So Monday will be repair day, until then I have a noisier car

Drove to the pub, things were good.

11112569_1617583861790122_53088367965702

Stopped on the way there, the Golf looked like a Golf.

10403128_1617583901790118_21804311252768

Got to the pub, the Golf still looked like a Golf.

150715_1617583745123467_7336925510729705

I sat around and waited for Prawn and enjoyed the sun.

11152706_1617583645123477_98587768043771

I'll even treat you to an interior picture.

11130208_1617583841790124_67552683810981

Prawn turned up. And ground his splitter out whose than I've ever seen on entrance to the car park.

11136637_1617583561790152_46901862829439

A funny yellow man pulled in behind him in his Bentley.

1520630_1617583611790147_124691356614794

The two really don't go together.

10393941_1617583588456816_26068936270152

He did bring his lovely girlfriend though.

Then Luke turned up in the Passat, I won't subject you to a picture.

Have this instead.

10505597_1617583628456812_57357529520574

We sat in the garden and drank beer, the funny yellow man drank a coffee and we watched people look at the Bentley and laugh about it being parked next to our sheds.

Then we had dinner.

Prawn and I had a lovely drive home, I think I've poisoned him with the odd yet extreme amount of oil and fuel that comes out of my exhaust.

That's my night in a nut shell.

I was surprised your last photo post didn't contain a single selfie but I guess you've made up for it now ;)

Bit of a random question, but before I f**k around finding envelopes and stamps and shit, do you really have to send your old drivers license cut in 2 to the DVLA when you renew it? I've "lost" my paper counterpart as it is but their website requested I did the "cut in 2 and post back" schtick with my photocard. Do they chase that kind of thing up?

Went with a friend to pick up an '04 plate Leon Cupra R last night in Luton. 200 mile round trip. Swapped a modified PD130 VW Bora worth £1200-£1500 at the absoulte most for it, plus £200 cash. The Leon is a £2500+ car any day of the week...so my friend got an absolute steal really.

However, 2 miles from home, the slave cylinder in the gear box shat itself (brake fluid dripping out of the bell housing). I pissed my pants...so unlucky!

It might be the reason why the guy wanted to swap the car for a cheaper one so badly...
