MadManMike
I bought a cheap bike rack off eBay for my car. Shall we have a sweepstake at how many times I swear, whilst trying to fit it to my car? PS, ; ) I wanted to be involved.

Jolfa
Only $875 to get back on the road... Could have been worse! A day or two sooner and we might have been here - Or here - Edited March 27, 2015 by Jolfa
Pashley26
Tonight I did a job I've been putting off for a while. I bought a 22mm Ibiza Cupra master cylinder for my Mk2, my old master cylinder was knackered and I wanted to run a 7'' servo for a firmer brake pedal but still wanted good brake force. And I was hugely conscious about the lack of clearance between the cam belt and the master cylinder... The Ibiza cylinders have 4 ports, so I needed to find some and way of blocking them off. I didn't want to just use bolts, and I didn't want to use bleed nipples and bearings, I wanted a more proper solution. Luckily my dad's a legend and came up with these from work - Basically underilled brake pipe fittings. Get in! First up, removed the old master cylinder reservoir. Then I had the mother f**ker of a challenge which was getting the new cylinder to fit. They have to be quite heavily modified to fit, which is a pain. Also they're a lot wider than a Mk2 master cylinder, and sit way past the cam belt and pulley when trying to fit them onto the servo studs. I ended up having to undo the engine mount, put an extension bar between the inlet manifold runners and force the engine to the nearside to get it past the cam pulley. Arse. Finally got it fitted! Spot the problem... The standard brake pipes are M8, and meet the master cylinder from the offside. The M8 ports on the Ibiza cylinder are on the nearside, the offside are M10... So I had to 'adapt' the brake pipes haha, I used a set of pliers and a socket to redo the bends on the original pipes so they met the master cylinder smoothly. I damaged the plastic coating a little bit manipulating them, but there aren't any cuts or nicks in them. Bled the brakes up, PERFECT. Pedal is rock solid, less travel and all good in the hood. Happy with that
Azarathal
So no more 180's on a straight bit of road? Mondays gonna be interesting. I've got to fettle some mdf rings into clearing my door cards so I can fit my 6.5" speakers (standard is 5"), swap the roof lining for a black one, sound deaden the doors + roof and if I have time the rest of the car, new door seals, fit reversing camera and sort out some sticking sliders on the front brakes. Anyone wanna come play cars with me?
Pashley26
I'd sort your sticking sliders out for you, no worries. CBA with any of that DIY lark though haha. Nope, talent failings aside these will be a thing of the past. I will however be grinding out the front hubs to give myself more camber at the front, in the aim to get a few more of these in. MadManMike
That looks baller, where did you get that from? eBay. Search for diamond stitch fabric - the 1m x 1.4m piece cost me £10 delivered and was more than enough for these little door cards Cheers Luke! Took 6 hours in total, but with a staple gun I could have halved that.

Skoze
Looking good Mike! Guy on my mate's facebook is adamant an MX5 turbo conversion is 'easy mate, 4psi on std set up. just need a scooby turbo, manifold, oil feed return so tap the sump.... done' People who read half of a build thread online and suddenly know everything are the worst. Worse than that, that spec is nicked directly from the mighty car mods turbo MX5 . They used the old turbo kicking about from the forrester build. Skoze
My mate sent me a picture of his newest land rover being put in his shed today. Not overly remarkable, but there was also an Aston Martin DB6 Vantage in front of it. I am so jealous.
Pashley26
Proper good modification this one, there's loads of clearance for the cam belt. Once you've shredded it off the pulley.
AdamR28
Dry sump belt on my kit car does that against a chassis rail on hard right-handers. It's reet.

As for MC rubbing on belt, swap your front engine mount for 2 or 3 hockey pucks and a long bolt, won't be able to move that far then Edited March 30, 2015 by Jolfa
Pashley26
They aren't bolts. They're undrilled brake pipe fittings.
Jolfa
So you say, but as brake fittings are essentially drilled out bolts, and these are undrilled... Not to split hairs or anything
