MartMini
i got bored today and decided to make my quickshift.... well quicker I've hit the limit of front/rear throw modification i can do on the gearbox linkage, so next was to modify the gearlever mech. This is basically the idea im going for: raise the pivot point on the gear lever. They claim that'll give a 50% reduction in throw, and the white plastic part looks like the standard one, so i'd take an educated guess that they raised the pivot point an inch. i didnt want to go that far as i've already reduced the f/r throw already. being the exact person that i am, i reduced it by the size of the nearest spacer i could find! which ended up being 12.5mm Modifying the standard system means doing this: straightning the gear lever. machining out the cut out an extra 12.5mm machining the groove for the top circlip an extra 12.5mm higher cutting and welding the pivot point an extra.... you guessed it, 12.5mm higher! i'm SO glad i did this. The gear lever cost me £2 from scrap yard, and this modification took me about an hour to do. It feels so much better. the front to rear throw is so much shorter (i reckon about 30-40% less than i had), but not too short. theres enough travel to know which gear your in, but not too much to make it feel horrible. its a real nice feel of gear....neutral.... next gear.... tomturd
Well it's not often I post here, but I just replaced the bonnet catch on my fabia. Feeling pretty chuffed. The bonnet stays down and everything (after a few heart stopping "uh oh, I can't close the bonnet" moments). It didn't fix the thing I hoped it would though And I only lost one "square ratchet bit to screwdriver bit converter" and the torx bit that was plugged into it somewhere down the bottom of the engine. I think it's on the tray. Not a bad result.
Pashley26
I'm the first person to admit that I'm not very good at doing anything fiddly, that doesn't involve nuts and bolts. But I'm really happy with how these have turned out! The four light grille just didn't look right. So I put the twin light grille on. Usually I hate them, but I quite like this. HippY
is it even road legal? AFAIK lights must have the CE certificate (hence I have not fabricated lights for my Ferrari)
Pashley26
Looks terrible as well as becoming one of those bellends dazzling everyone else on the road. I see being on the other side of the world has made you as delusional as the last person I know who went there They won't dazzle anyone, because they're proper bi-xenons with quality optics. Unless by everyone you mean people who are only two feet from the ground. In which case they're no worse than any brand new bi-xenon equipped car. Jolfa
You should go travelling man, expand your mind, get enlightened and realise you're making your car look shit. In actual car news, planning on looking at some today, kinda had my heart set on a Delica but they're so damn expensive!

dann2707
You never know, I might be able to pick up some enlightened cock whilst I'm at it? Nahhhh your ex has already got it all. Jardo how did you find those corbeau seats you had in the a3? Really tempted by them at £300 with runners. Are runners compatible with every car or do I have to buy clio specific ones? Edited March 8, 2015 by dann2707
Pashley26
Buy them. Unbelievably good seats for the cash, oddly I bought another set last night. The sliding runners they come with are universal, you will need Clio specific subframes for your car too unit them on.
dann2707
Oh shit that sounds expensive
Pashley26
£300 for the seats and runners, £100 for the seat frames. Then £100 for harnesses. £40 for bolts and fitting hardware. Edited March 9, 2015 by Pashley26
sharn
In actual car news, planning on looking at some today, kinda had my heart set on a Delica but they're so damn expensive! Yes mate! I was looking into those aswell. Seems to be a good balance of Car/Van/Camper. Guy across the road has one and blatantly loves it. But he said theyre not too great on fuel.. Now i'm just thinking of going car-free and building up a few quality bikes.. Including a brompton for bus/train journeys and a 1000W butchers bike conversion & trailer set-up for carrying stuff on <40miles round trips! And then just rent-a-van/borrow-a-car for the few times i might need.. Cars in general are expensive. Even cheap ones.. I like the idea of being able to sneakily charge up your batteries at places and basically get free fuel! Pashley26.. i think i preferd the Rallye grille with those lights.. Looks almost hypnotic with the badgeless, it's like theres nothing to rest your eyes on. Those little dots do look a bit weird on their own.. Although i'm sure theyre nice and bright an all that.. but maybe if it was combined with those 'angel eye' outer ring lights it'd look better?! Pashley26
The lights being little dots do look a little bit odd I agree; if I did it again I probably wouldn't paint it and I'd have left them silver and fitted the 4 light grille. Live and learn. I was kind of hoping for the low and wide 90's German look that Mk2's had back in the day. I have kind of pulled it off. Looking at things online, I kind of wish I had of gone wide track. But I can always run spacers I guess :/
sharn
Aaah yeah, didnt realised you'd painted the reflective.. That would makes it less weird. I guess it's like when you see someone with those strange contact lenses in.. just looks freaky! I rekon it'd look good on angel eyes.. Bit like these.. but more like yours without the naff chrome ring..
CurtisRider
Jardo, which bi-xenons did you get in the end? Conversion looks neat and well done, but I think the black is too much for an already very dark car, body colour might look good though? Pashley26
I bought the eBay ones that George and now Prawn have, they are so much better than pre-built projector headlights! I'm just going to leave them for now, they were supposed to be a cheap project to take up a day without costing a fortune. I can't really be bothered to make them look any better visually. I think with some 10mm spacers and a bit of camber the car will sit a bit better and make the lights look more in keeping with the car? Jolfa
I have kind of pulled it off. You have not. Anyway, introducing my new home - $2400 AUD (£1200ish), needs a linkage looking part for the steering and a new tyre, other than that it's on the road. For my next trick I shall make it a camper...
