dann2707
Rainbird with the Jardo selfies! Also are you wearing a sheep??
Luke Rainbird
It's actually more bear than sheep; mega warm for working outside in this weather!
dann2707
I know what you mean man. Nitrile gloves are perfect for this weather too as they insulate and don't rip on the first bolt you touch. Also clean hands after is a bonus I have no idea why I'm saying this haha
forteh
Glow plugs changed, all the old ones came out without any issues at all, I did apply some molybdenum disulphide release agent to them earlier in the week though; that said only the top thread on each was rusty and no signs of copper slip. Had to grind a 10mm socket down to fit into the tiny gap Ford leave you to fit it and lost one of the new terminal nuts in the depths of the engine bay, simply reused one of the old ones I took off I also jacked the front end up to try bleeding out the steering rack, will see if it has made any difference in a little while.
MadManMike
Smashed the Eunos round Exmoor this weekend: Granted I'm not a snow-pro, but what people say about them is true - they're utterly shite in the snow, even with epic tyres and a soft right foot. Still fun though
george_seamons
For the first time in 6 months, I started my engine...and it ran!!! Sounds like a drag car because there is nothing off the turbo, but it works. Soooooo chuffed! Even though I knew I had double checked everything, it's still a heart in the mouth moment when you first start it after a rebuild! I'm on the home straight now

JDâ„¢
No matter how many times you call it a Eunos, Mike, it's 'still' an MX5. I mean that nicely, as I love the MX5.
AndrewEH1
Eunos is imported to the UK though, so there are differences in the spec...
JDâ„¢
Yea, but I wouldn't call an imported Astra an Opel. It's not a dig as such, it just seems like Mike is trying to offset the fact it's a hairdressers car rather than embrace it.

The Eunos IS a better car, it's not just the Opel / Vauxhall re-badge. I specifically went for a Eunos rather than a Mazda, because the lower chance of rust, the extra 25bhp, the better seats, the boot spoiler, the JDM rear numberplate panel, the JDM 2-piece folding sun visors... Yes, mostly MX-5, but better. And when you hear hairdresser everyday, you stop giving a f**k.
forteh
My steering still clunks although it seems slightly diminished to how it was before. It took a mile or two before it started clunking again, almost as if it sucked a load more air in again and re-airlocked it.

Probably just me, but I don't say "330 E46 Clubsport AC Schnitzer" every time I mention my car, even thought all of those points are reasons I bought it. It's a 3 series, and that's what it gets referred to as. Yours is an MX5 as far as I'm concerned, regardless of the fact it's a good one - a good one of a good car which i like, as I've already mentioned. Entirely semantic, everyone can move on now. MadManMike
Yes but your BMW is still a BMW, it's just a higher spec one. Technically, my car is a Eunos Roadster, not a Mazda MX-5. It's insured as such. Your comparison would be more accurate if there was an MX-5 SE and an MX-5 Cupra, if that was the case I wouldn't name-drop Cupra all the time

dann2707
Today was fairly productive despite going out last night, i'm hungover to f**k so thought car stuff might sort me out but it hasn't I just want to curl up and fall asleep lol - got home at 1pm today so cracked on with the exhaust. Really easy to fit however the olive joint where it attaches to the cat is blowing slightly. I will no doubt go down the welding a sleeve on it in the near future - just need to research it all first I jacked the car up and tried wiggling the original exhaust out but it's fairly tight in there so I dropped the rear beam which was easy enough. 20150201_133231 by dann2707, on Flickr All off - it's actually in really decentish condition for the year funnily enough. 20150201_134845 by dann2707, on Flickr New one on! 20150201_145957 by dann2707, on Flickr Christmas present being a saviour, this kit is so good for the money and it's helped quicken jobs so much as everything is nicely in order 20150201_150002 by dann2707, on Flickr Old system 20150201_150005 by dann2707, on Flickr 20150201_150011 by dann2707, on Flickr They will be polished in due time 20150201_150017 by dann2707, on Flickr Back end is starting to look where I want it now! MartMini
This finally turned up this week: 70mm to 83mm silicone adaptor with alot of force and lub, eventually got it on (ooo errr! ) Random question, is it common for inner track rod ends to go on mk4 golfs? Mines got quite a horrific brake judder, and all the brakes look mint and ive replaced pretty much the entire front suspension :/

I had side-to-side movement in the wheels when jacked up. Were a bit awkward to get off but did it in the end.
MartMini
thats the thing. ive got brake judder at speed, and if your stationary with the engine off there is what feels like play on the steering wheel. So far ive replaced: top strut mounts, struts, wheel bearings, bottom ball joints, lower arms, outer track rod ends.... so i though inner track rod ends are the next logical step. SamKidney
Nice progress Dan. I like how much the R.S badge cleans up the look of the rear end. My only gripe with those Halfords sets are that most of the sockets in the set are 12pt, but for the quality vs the money you pay you can't argue. I have two of their ratchets as spares should my decent ones break for whatever reason and the few times I've used them I've abused them and they still function perfectly. If you have brake judder, why have you replaced everything BUT the brakes?! You could never tell just by looking if the discs are in good enough condition... AdamR28
Sounds like pad pickup, give the discs a skim or a rub over with some good harsh sandpaper.
MartMini
I know what you're saying about the disks Rich, yet theres play in the steering, which leads me to think its inner track rod ends. Looks like they're fairly cheap, so i'll do them first, give the disks a good cleanup and go from there.
