Well it's not like you were running too much torque for it to handle....

But in all seriousness that's pretty damn poor. In what way has it failed?

It's 300 foot pounds of torque currently.

I'm not sure how it's failed to be honest, there was some horrible clunky banging noises last night, now as soon as you lift the pedal 5mm it's jerking forward and the clutch just feels horrible.

I'm going to have to pull the boot off the clutch fork and have a look inside the bell housing.

It's also still full of fresh clean fluid too.

Guessing you've got some forced induction going on there then!

I thought about lining the whole thing with 25mm kingspan (which would have the added bonus of stopping brick dust on my cars but cost a few hundred) but would it really make much of any difference?

Oh yes. I'd do it using either kingspan or alternately 2L2. Or a combo of both with the 2L2 sandwiched between the kingspan and, for example, some hardboard or ply nailed/screwed to some batons - depends on taste and budget but it'd give you a warm to the touch surface. After this a 2-3KW leccy radiator on low for a long period of time is all you'd need - just takes the chill out of the air.

It wouldn't have to cost loads and stuff like insulation gets over ordered frequently on big projects, so I'd try ebay/gumtree etc. for contractors/subbies offloading surplus. I know of a firm that writes off most of the overstock because it's not worth the transport to get it back to the yard.

Link on 2L2 if you've not heard of it. I hope I'm helpful

Cheers. I'd seen that stuff but didn't know what it was called. I will keep a look out for cheap stuff. My mates done his garage with a combination of the two that he got off a builder friend but can't get anymore unfortunately but that's thicker than 25mm. Any idea what I can deal the concrete floor with that's not paint? I was thinking of getting those interlocking foam tiles for where I'm working.

Laminate floor underlay and sheet over with plywood followed by carpet?

More 8x4 hardboard and duct tape the edges down. It's what we did when we set up camp for Manx grand prix fortnight last time as it's nice and temporary (you said your renting, there's a possibility you might have to bail sharpish) and soaks up fluids like a goodn. When It's dead change it out for more or double up.

Having said that last time at the southern 100 dad manage to bum some vinyl flooring off *namedroppingisntcool* and it was complete luxury so decide for yourself. Either way we stick some bedroll style grey dense foam underneath the lot (the underlays not a bad substitute) and it comes highly recommended by the guy we know who fell asleep on it after a session on the Okells!

Clutch is going on the seat too, having to drive her carefully. I don't think Dan fitted a sports clutch when he changed the flywheel which is probably why.

Not looking forward to spending more money on it :( Needs a new handbrake sensor now too as it thinks it's on constantly.

A lad at my work has offered money for the seat which I'm considering taking, and using to get the caddy going. Or I could sell both and look at getting an older merc estate, I want something practical but not boring... Any suggestions?

Picking up my new car this hopefully. =D the price was right, and been looking for something with a bit more power than the 1.9 TDI Skoda Octavi Estate I've been driving for the last year!

New one is VW Golf GTI (Edition 35) Mk6. I'll get some pics when I pic it up. (like that but mines black)

That axle is TTTEEEENNNY!

Collecting the cambelt tomorrow, hopefully I can get that done fairly quickly! Also got the last few exhaust mounts to chuck on, hopefully the Astra will be happy then and need no more attention. Also got to do an oil service on the Porsche, hopefully that'll be good for a bit too

It's only a Micra haha

Which engine is your astra running?

1.9CDTI 16V. Got the locking kit even though it is not essential, also got the aux belt and a new water pump for whilst i'm there. The car is on 136k and I have no history of whether the Cambelt has even been done so it's important I get it sorted! It runs brilliantly now since I cleaned sensors and stuff, so it seems a shame not to keep it in good working order

Good good, they're not bad engines to do and are reliable runners if looked after properly.

Done it :D I now can't see what I was so worried about, it's a very easy job! The locking kit was pretty pointless, I only used 1 part from it. I was supplied the wrong pump so had to nip back to ECP and swap it, their system was down so that wasted loads of time! Took me about 3 hours to swap it all in total, I could halve that now as I was being over cautious about everything.

New waterpump, tensioner and guide pulley. The old ones felt rather rough so i'm very glad they have been replaced!

Old belt was noticeably worn and not original meaning it has had at least 1 belt change in its life which suggests it's had some care in the past.

Typical aux belt cracking from a few too many miles

All fitted

Very happy now, I was getting quite nervous about the age of the belt and pump so it's nice to know that they should be ok now (assuming they don't have a manufacturing defect :P).
