I fixed the Astra this evening. The fitting to the slave had popped off, fortunately the metal clip had wedged itself onto the gearbox housing so I didn't need to get any parts :) turns out the previous slaves rubber seal was still in the hose fitting and therefore I had 2 seals in there...the hose probably was never clipped on correctly as there wouldn't have been enough space so that explains it...my bad :$ I hate stupid little oversights like that, thats the trouble with doing something like a clutch swap over the course of several days (just doing it in odd spare hours) you lose track of what you have done...

Bought my tax online using the direct debit monthly installments today. Works out to be the same price if I was pay it every 6 months which is decent! My day isn't that exciting and that's all I have.

i've just done mine online, done a one of installment for 6 months. the thing that annoys me if there taking the money in a couple weeks time from my bank & not instantly.

I found it kind of annoying - I applied for it on the 23rd Oct but they didn't take payment until the 6th Nov. I seem to remember it didn't show as being taken out of my available balance either so I had to keep taking that figure off what I had in my account at the time. Admittedly it's not the end of the world, but I would have preferred it to have just been sorted there and then.

Blew the engine up in July and not had the cash to fix it yet - it's in a shed at the moment while I build it a new 'un (and it avoids the grit!)

Not sure how far i'm gonna go tuning it, but i've got a high compression 3.1 bottom end and some race heads to go on along with a funky cam, should be at least an extra 30-40bhp to pay with which'll be very nice. Going to treat the suspension to a full going over as well, new single leaf rear springs, adjustable shocks and eccentric mounts for the coilies up front for CAMBER Y0

Just spotted this - sucks about blowing the engine up, but hopefully it'll come out the other side of this as a better car overall (Y)

R-Bizzle got an absolute f**king steal today...very impressed!

Did he send you some pictures?

It's a really nice car, can't believe what a bargain it was.

I've never seen an engine so clogged up with shit, it literally looked like somebody had dropped all the water and replaced it with actual shit. When we picked it up there was absolutely no return flow or water flow from or to the expansion tank and in my mind I was considering that the impeller had fallen off the water pump, but with it running I squiggled the hoses up and squeezed them and for about half a second there was flow, so I know the pump was going to be fine.

I changed the expansion tank for him, flushed the system and refilled with G13, logged the temp sensor VS the gauge and all seemed good. He's just got to Exeter and it's been bang on 90 the whole way.

I think I might have upset the previous owner when I told him there was nothing wrong with it and he'd sold it FAR too cheap because his garage were shit...Seriously though, Luke took some pictures and video's.

Until Luke posts the video, this is literally what it was like -

Still think it's the oil cooler, I should think the coolant will get shitted up again fairly quickly :(

Potentially, but I'm not f**king about with oil coolers on my drive.

Personally, I don't think other than a bit of clutch slip there's anything wrong with it. 1L per 1000 mile of oil usage isn't bad, but only time will tell. That and he's done over 4 hours worth of driving in it today trouble free, so we'll have to wait and see what happens first and if there's any repeat symptoms.

The engine itself is absolutely lovely, it's really quiet. A little it of a ticking from the head, but a lot nicer than the majority of 1.8t's. It just needs a few of the 'tasteful' modifications removing haha.
