Jolfa
My question, is £35 a good price to get my new tyres put on my wheels (old tyres removed) and balanced? Average, shop around and offer beer tokens to someone rather than ask at the front desk
AdamR28
Haha you dick out of interest, how come? If you spend most of your time and money cleaning it, you're wasting time and money you could be spent maintaining it mechanically, which is the important bit A car is a mechanical device which has a purpose, it's not a cosmetic accessory (IMO!).
dann2707
Cheers! Yeah i'd normally go to my local garage who do loads of stuff for free for me but his machine is old school as f**k and he's scratched a few of my wheels before

MadManMike
I had two tyres swapped and balanced for £18, so yeah you're about right there.
CurtisRider
White smoke at idle, coolant being lost very slowly, no mayo on filler cap. Whats going on with my A3 1.8T?

Whats going on with my A3 1.8T? head gasket? sounds like water's getting into the pistons
CurtisRider
I always thought a headgasket failure would lead to mayo, i'm probably wrong though and certainly not ruling it out. Turbo oil seals are likely to have gone, some people claim that can cause white smoke but i'm not entirely sure that's right
AndrewEH1
Still have white smoke after 20 mins or so with a decent run? Edited November 19, 2014 by AndrewEH1
CurtisRider
To be honest I don't know, I only noticed as I took it for an MOT and thought it was strange the condensation hadn't finished migrating out of the exhuast. I rarely ever drive the car, my girlfriend uses it mostly.
AndrewEH1
Does she drive far daily? Daily I don't drive my Audi 3.0 far so it's 'always' smokey but after a good blast it's golden! JD™
As usual, stuck bolt stops play. I was really cracking along this morning, got the car up higher than I've ever had it on the stands. Decided to do the fronts first because I have done the rears before and knew they'd be a doddle. Got the passenger side front strut out, even though the bottom bolt that holds it in had stuck pretty tight – I lack decent extension bars but managed to get it off. By this time I was starting to think I might actually make it into the office this afternoon – and that's where I made my first mistake. Drivers side lower strut bolt was an absolute arse. I heated it, got all manner of leverage on it. Nothing. Then it rounded. Bollocks. So I put the passenger side back together and did the rears instead. Got it back on the floor and round to the local garage to see if they could get the pesky bolt out – 2 hours and some welding later and it's out, but I've run out of time to do the rest of the job I did get a chance to look properly at the underside while it was up on ramps though and, apart from an exhaust which is more hole than metal, it should go through its MOT in January with a bit of TLC on the arches. That's good news I guess.

Tom Booth
Jennys mini always gets some 4.5-5k rpm tuning once every few months as she drives like a funeral director. Always gives better mpg and results.

AdamR28
It does genuinely work. The amount of cars my father in law used to 'fix' by doing it is unreal! Granted that was 20-30 years ago but it still applies...
Pashley26
I do it now with new Fiats. Customer picks it up, drives it like miss daisy even though I've told them to thrash it from day one, they bring it in a few weeks later saying it's slow as f**k and shit on fuel, you take them out and thrash the shit out of it then hand them the keys and they go away wondering WTF just happened.
