CurtisRider
Compression test was all good on my engine today. Now i'm even more confused about my cars lumpy running. I've replaced nearly everything now

Duncy H
Looks good Mike, from what I remember your previous wheels were pretty gash? I've just put some new belts on my mx5, no more squeaky noises I really need something more practical with having the bike, the deal for the van fell through so hoping to get insured on my dad navara but not looking forward to the running costs for that
MadManMike
They were alright, just a bit boring. The centre caps were terrible so I took them off. These BBS wheels aren't very clean, but they have good tyres on and look OK from a distance. I'll probably get some nicer wheels next summer. MartMini
slap some center caps on there Mike, would make them look hell of a lot better!
MadManMike
Yeah, I plan to, if I can find some for less than £50!

MadManMike
So after fitting those wheels last night, I had my first proper drive this morning - 11 miles to work. Turns out the tracking was HUGELY out, to the point where I was making S shapes trying to drive in a straight line Just had 4 wheel laser alignment done, so hopefully my drive home from work will feel epic. (The tracking has been slightly off since I got the car, the new wheels and tyres just made it much worse).
AdamR28
Hmm, wheels and tyres won't affect tracking. What settings did they use for the alignment?
SamKidney
I'd be checking if they're buckled at all if it feels worse all of a sudden. Seen it on a set of my mates Rota Lites. Car drove like shit, put on some new oem alloys and it was a different car

JDâ„¢
Is that JD? Jeans are way too baggy.
MadManMike
Hmm, wheels and tyres won't affect tracking. What settings did they use for the alignment? No idea... it was a "trackmaster" machine. It's improved it, but still isn't totally right. I'm guessing it's a bush or something gone?? It's not too bad now, but definitely not right. AdamR28
Hmm. Sounds like just a 4 wheel tracking then, and if you've no printout they could have done anything (or nothing!). The '5 is really sensitive to alignment, so ideally you'd have the cambers looked at as well, especially since when you adjust the rear tracking it changes the camber too. Be worth checking for play in a ball joint or wishbone bushing, but it could just be the alignment. If it was less than £100 and not done by someone who knows MX-5s it's probably not going to be much good unfortunately
Prawny Baby
Donington was great. Really really good day despite a few issues!Jardo was driving well, I was impressed, considering his reputation He and George should both be very proud that they're within a few seconds per lap of our resident stig in his 100bhp mx5 Little clip from the A3 on the day. Running issues all day meant low boost only, and considerably down on usual power levels for low boost even.Still great fun though:
MadManMike
Cheers Tart. Yeah it was just 4 wheel alignment. I'll get the full works done in the coming months, my budget doesn't allow yet unfortunately. I need to find an MX specialist in the area, I never have much faith in these smaller tyre places. By the way, it pulled to the left before I changed the wheels, now it pulls to the right... Not sure if that gives any clues.
forteh
They obviously put the left wheels on the right!
RobinJI
If you need any bits then let me know Mike, I've still got mine sat here waiting to be broken for parts and I go up to Bristol at least once a month. AdamR28
Shame you're so far away Mike My guess is that the rear thrust is off, and when they've adjusted the rear tracking it's switched the thrust angle from one side to the other. JDâ„¢
I think last time I posted in here I was all smug about the 5 series getting right close to reserve on eBay within about 24 hours of a 10 day auction. Well, it went silent for about 4 days, but now it's finally actually crossed reserve. It's actually going. Let the buying commence!

MadManMike
Robin - thanks mate, I'll keep you posted! Tart - I changed the wheels myself, the "pull" changed immediately, it hasn't happened since any garages played with alignment. The 14" wheels pulled left, the 15" pull right... It's pretty weird.
