Luke Rainbird
I posted this on Audi Sport, so it's just a copy and paste... Read this on ASN last night and you've excelled yourself dude. Genuinely decent post for a change making a good point. Alright, maybe a touch of hyperbole in there but on the whole, good write up. DO more of that in future
CurtisRider
How much difference do the smaller bushes make to drivability when not hooning it? Do you feel that the smaller bushes would be suitable for a car that is used for daily duties?
Pashley26
It's hard to say individually how the smaller bushes effect the drive of the car because I've done both at the same time. The car has a lot more steering feel, and is clearly sharper to respond when the wheel is turned. Levels of grip are much increased. A corner which in the dry was 40-45mph steady throttle and verging on understeer is now 50mph and no understeer. Maybe this is psychological, and just an increased confidence in the car but it certainly feels great. I don't find that the steering is snappy though, but I do find it is much easier to provoke oversteer now which is nice, it makes changing direction much quicker. I don't see how anybody would struggle to drive with this setup, as a daily it is fantastic. Yet to see what tire wear is going to be like mind you. Prawns car has this lovely feeling that going round a roundabout you can tug the wheel into the corner and it will give you more grip than the rear has and it steps it really smoothly and all you have to do to get out of it is decrease the front grip (more throttle, more steering angle) and it straightens out and gives a little understeer instead. Mine does this now. Which feels great with AWD.
CurtisRider
I guess it is hard to compare as your old bushes looked tired, so almost anything is going to feel better and less vague (i'm guessing that's how you felt about your steering before). Wouldn't a harder large poly bush have made near on the same effect as your reducer bush and standard poly? I don't know what's available for your car but seeing as many models share the same parts people must make different hardness parts for them and therefore that would be cheaper? Luke Rainbird
IIRC, the powerflex/superpro bushes are a little firmer than standard anyway. The metal reducer inserts firm things up further still.
george_seamons
A lot of what you are feeling now will be the increased caster. Shame you didn't do one bush then the other so you could feel what each individual bush changed. Wait until the get the adjustable top mounts on, will be even better then
AdamR28
Removed anti roll bars from my car, definitely has more grip, awesome! Little bit unresponsive during direction changes though, so time to make some which are a more suitable stiffness...

JDâ„¢
The 5 series is finally on eBay. Ends next Sunday, and already approaching reserve, which is nice. Anything I get from it is going into operation 'make the 3 series less of a shit heap', starting with the welding, then suspension, then whatever's left on cosmetics. All needs to be done by January, so I should finally have reasons to post some progress in here
Greetings
Quite angry. I went to a local comp which is dominated by Evos, some are driven by professional rally drivers. There's 7 or 8 rounds each year and the competition is always won by an Evo overall. Actually every single run of every comp since 2011 has been won by an Evo or Subaru driver. Today I managed to get the best time overall by 1 second and this time was only beaten twice throughout the whole competition by 0.3s on a 4.5km stage. So there was a big chance of actually winning this event considering you usually improve, not drive slower. But no, a few metres into run two something make a mild clonk and I lost drive. You can rev the engine in gear, the propshaft is spinning, the input shaft on the diff is spinning but the diff is just humming and the half shafts are stationary. No idea what happened. Haz
Got a link to this mod? I have never heard of it being done before! No link, just blind faith. Basically you take the shifter from a 1999-2003 Scenic and put it in your Clio. It's a longer stick, but also a raised pivot, so the though ratio/distance is very similar to standard. Here's a pic which compares them. I also have 'stiff shift' kit made by a guy called Yanoo on CS, which can be built into the Clio/Scenic shifter which tightens up the linkage. It's a really nice piece of kit. See here. Here's one fitted.

MadManMike
I went to Supercar Saturday at Castle Combe today. AdamR28
Make some? Intrigued! Its pretty simple, just a bent bit of bar if you think about it. There's some maths involved but nothing too tricky. The last one I made was straightforward (will find a link if I can), but the plan is now to make a pair of bladed ones. Edit, can't believe this was over 3 years ago! http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/89420-front-anti-roll-bar/
CurtisRider
So mild steel us fine? I always thought they were treated in some way so assumed it couldn't be done
Boumsong
Ones that I have seen raw come through work for powdercoating have all had a twist type pattern to the surface. Sprung steel bar maybe?
craigjames
From what i've read I thought they were sprung steel.
dann2707
Found the source of my problems! 20141025_112620 by dann2707, on Flickr There is a lip on the bearing carrier. Picture doesn't really show it but running my finger along that shaft () shows a big lip. I'm not exactly sure how long it's been like that. When I first got the car the bearing was loose so maybe tightening and loosening, tightening again has worn away some of that material. The new bearing is still sat in my bedroom as I am just using the one that came with the replacement hub that I bought yesterday. I'm not sure whether to just run this one into the ground or replace it anyway seeing as though I have it here anyway.
RobinJI
Seen that on a few cars Dan, I had to replace it the last time I did a front bearing on the Scirocco, luckily I was about 500 yards from a GSF who had a new drive flange on the shelf for about £20. Personally I'd leave the new upright you've fitted alone unless it starts complaining. I treated myself to a nice fancy soldering iron yesterday when I went to fix my bass guitars lead and found my old iron was knackered. Now I'm itching to try out a few electrical ideas on the car so I can use my new toy, but both involve spending money that'd be much better used on the suspension. Speaking of which, I don't suppose anyone with a mk4 golf based car would mind measuring the distance between the center of the strut tops would you? Considering how common they are, less of my local friends than you'd expect own anything mk4 based.
Luke Rainbird
Away for the weekend else I would mate. If you've not sorted it when I get back tomorrow I'll get the tape measure out. Just passed a Jurassic Park truck on the AA38 about 10 miles outside Derby. Boumsong?!!
JDâ„¢
Going karting today down in Lydd for my almost-but-probably-never-will-be step brothers 16th birthday. They've forgotten about the clocks going back though, so our 4pm start time means we're basically going to be doing the Singapore Grand Prix. Should be fun, first time I'll ever race my old man
george_seamons
How exact do you need Robin? I can do it, but I have adjustable mounts, so may struggle to get mm perfect, seeing as the strut isn't in the centre
