The Car Thread

That was sweet :) looks mega fun. Cars are so much fun on road tyres, haha.

Have you ever had a go at left foot braking? That sort of event seems to have a lot of transitions between throttle and brake which is where you can really make some gains if you can keep one foot over each pedal.

Exactly my thought after watching that! I've tried but haven't had the chance to practice properly. Almost all my driving is done during comps, not the time you want to experiment :) Definitely going to focus more on this now.

£60 each sounds awesome. Apart from the usual roadworthyness checks what do you guys do pre and post track day? I assume things like oil will ideally want changing after?

Pre: Fluid levels, make sure you have enough tyre tread to last the day. After: Check your brake pads aren't totally gone (they won't be at Curborough). Modern oils will be fine for a couple of track days and few thousand road miles.

If I've got something a little more suited by the time this rolls around I'd be game for having a go on track :)

You don't need anything 'suited', just get your ass along dude :P

Well up for February time! Can we book something so it's set in stone (unlike the TF car meet) :P

Cool - if anyone interested can put their name down and I'll give Curborough a shout, see what weekends they have free in Feb and March?

Perhaps I'll rephrase to "something with a working flywheel and clutch, and without a Tesco-van imprinted in the front". Totally game though and since boredom has already set in with the Golf, it'll be in something a little more fun I'm sure!

Ah wicked, cheers Adam. I think I over worry about this stuff :P I am rebuilding my rear brakes next week and will use some of that decent brake fluid anyway (the blue ATE stuff) so my brakes should be as good as they can be. Everything else on my car seems to be working pretty well as it's pretty much all new underneath! Just need the back end aligned as it didn't get done at the last place I went to
