greg1040
Well i removed the front splitter from the car yesterday gave it all a good sand down put some filler on parts of it to level it off gave it another sand down. 1 more sand down with smooth emry paper then its good to be sprayed and laquered. Will get some pics up tomorrow of before and after. Will be sorting 1 of the side skirts also over the next day or 2 if i comes out great. Almost pay day too so going to ordered up a 4 point takata harness and a nrg quick release system. Go pro has been ordered but for some reason the black editions were delayed till the 27th so will have that for the end of the month. Other than that just been driving and enjoying the car not much else to update

Pashley26
Please don't order 4 point harnesses Greg. You need the 6th straps to keep the buckle low really, and 4 points don't hold you in place very well.
Azarathal
That sucks, the same thing happened to my parents A4 and the cambelt has split halfway in 3 places! Fortunately mum turned it off in what have must of been the fastest reaction time ever! Saved having the head rebuilt anyway... Luckily my engine is non interference so at worst it's new cam pulley / belt and new alternator / belt and the alternator was going to be changed in a few weeks anyway. My biggest problem is I don't trust any of the mechanics near me (Crowthorne) enough to do anything more than maintain a cheap run around, I don't have tools or space to do it myself and the nearest mr2 specialists which luckily happen to be cheap as fook are 45miles away. Jolfa
Hypothetical question then - you're moving to the other side of the world for a year, maybe 2, you have a car you don't want to get rid off that isn't as simple as "just buy another one" but its going to cost money to store and you have £1000s tied up in it... What do you do? Also, based on Jardo's buckets, I'm tempted to swap my Recaros for my equally sexy Sparcos from my old green Audi, hmmm
N.Wood
Would the car be useful for wherever it is you're going? Like it's not a tiny island where you're better of with a shit car and good boat.

Jolfa
Taking it with isn't really an option, and potentially have somewhere it could live but as said would cost considerably.

Can store it at mine for cheaps if you want dude. You've seen my drive before, loads of room (especially now all the roccos are gone). Jolfa
I will be in touch, although I want it back as I leave it not with a V8 welded to the roof or anything
Luke Rainbird
Was hit by a Tesco delivery van in the lanes yesterday. No major damage, just a bit of a disfigured wing, moved light and out of place bumper/grill but all looks superficial and an easy fix. Pain in the arse but they've admitted full liability and are happy to sort it all out at no cost to myself with minimal fuss. As much as it's an annoyance, can't blame them for the way they are claiming they'll go about it. Looked up the driver on Facebook last night as he's a fairly local chap - turns out he was nominated last week for their store "driver of the year" award
Pete.M
Dan, once you've got a feel for those solid mounts, could you let me know how much more noise or vibration you feel? I've got a dangerous temptation to buy some... That's a bit rubbish Luke, good that they've accepted responsibility though. MartMini
20141019_133535 by dann2707, Haven't had a proper chance to go for a decent blast yet but so far so good! Dan, do you keep the bearings from the original mounts? I guess you don't need them, as the spherical joint will rotate? The guy was about 10 and had no clue about how dangerous that was, rang the depot told them that the door was bent and wouldn't close "can you continue?" - "yeah" so went on his merry way probably battering shit out of other cars and pedestrians with the door swinging all over the show. Pashley26
I saw a car crash about 50 yards down the road from work the other day, elderly woman in a Fiat Panda, 56 plate off the top of my head. Legged it down the road, opened the door for the old lady, asked her if she was alright, sat her down on a bench a few yards up the road. "I'm fine, I really am. Thank you so much for your help." (She's crashed into a post, no other cars involved.) "I saw you come from the Fiat dealers, you ran straight down the road. You can't be one of the salesman!" "Well actually madam I am; here's a Fiat Panda brochure and my card I picked up on the way. The new ones got side and curtain airbags as a factory fit option and a very clever supplementary safety system called smart city brake control which was designed specifically to prevent little mishaps like this!" I'm such a fanny. *I say the other day, that's a total lie. It was at the start of September. Edited October 20, 2014 by Pashley26
Luke Rainbird
Douchebag RE: Tesco stuff: Can't fault their work to put things right so far. Been to the bodyshop who've checked it out, should hear back in the morning confirming we're good to go ahead and with hire car details. Spot on. Shame they won't pay for my rear arch to be sorted and the rear bumper to be blown over where it's a tad faded (though I'm working on that one...!)

Jolfa
Paisley Freight have a set price for big car bits, just tape and/or clingfilm big chunks of cardboard to the front and back and stick labels on, about £30-40 last time I did it

Already looking at a pair aswell I can't feel anymore vibration when idling but it feels more connected to the road so there's a little more road noise if that makes sense? Feels so awesome though, really feels more planted when going around corners which is what I was after. My clunking noise is still there when dropping the clutch etc, I'm thinking it's engine mount related as that's rocking with my fingers. Not sure if it's normal or not ughhhhh. Ahh well payday soon! Martyn, the original bearing isn't used at all. What car do you have btw? Some PD beast? Edited October 21, 2014 by dann2707

Pashley26
Have you considered a new career in insurance? It's just one step too far down the ladder for me in terms of being a bellend. I looked into it once, it doesn't pay very well unless you're the one running the operation.
dann2707
I'm now starting to think that it's my offside wheel bearing that's giving me all this grief. The best symptoms I can give are, wheel shaking when driving at speed, pulling to the right when accelerating, twitchy wheel when driving along and when braking hard is pulls the wheel left and right. I noticed the other day that there is slight play when holding the disc at 12.30 positions but I'm not sure if thats normal, as it's not excessive, just slight play. I did change it three months ago with a cheap £12 eBay jobby so maybe that could be the culprit?
