K03s Hybrid Vs. K04?

Which is cheaper? - I fear this may rise some debate?!

Am I right in thinking only the following is required for a hybrid conversion:

  • Ko4 Core assembly
  • LCR/S3 injectors (370cc) on 3bar
  • 80mm MAF housing and TIP/filter to suit
  • Ported stock manifold
  • FMIC
  • Remap
  • What about rods?

Go K04.

A K03 hybrid will be a FAR better drive than a K04. My friend's stage 2 K03s @ 230bhp was so much more fun to drive day to day than mine @ 300bhp. Much more punchy, like a jack russell compared to a bulldog. Yes it ran out of puff at the top end, but it was amazing mid range.

It depends on what mods you currently have on the car as to where you go from here. It will cost about the same in the end to go K03 hybrid or K04 (or even k04 hybrid for a bit more...although then you will need rods).

If you get a K300 hybrid from Beach Buggy Turbos, and have a decent flowing setup with wmi, you could be pusing as much as 310-320bhp. In your postition, I would go for the K03 hybrid, having driven 2 cars with similar levels, then K03 hybrid delivers the power in a far more exiciting manner.

So just got home with the teg what a car i expected it to be slow since it wasnt turbo but it just pulls and pulls and pulls i think rolling it would have gave my stage 2 r a run for its money. Anyways few niggly issues to sort out but mechanicaly the car is spot on will update tomorrow with pics and a wee summary on the car.

They're shit.

Turbos are made to a size for a reason, and hybrids never last.

I'd rather have a K04 and 290bhp forever than a "more exciting" K03 hybrid for no more than 20k.

So where's your evidence to back this statement?

What about the turbo that's been on my car and Prawn's (and now onto its 5th owner)...that thing has been abused to high heaven, and is still in perfect condition, Not even a fraction of a millimetre of movement, no blade damage, no cracks in the housing.

Get a turbo from a decent supplier, and it will be fine...where you've got this 20k lifetime from I don't know :S

You could argue the bigger turbo will be less stressed, which will cause less heat...but it won't, because 290bhp is still wrangling the balls off a K04. 290bhp is nearly the limit of a K04 turbo, 300+ is the limit of a hybrid...so whats the difference?!

Soo few issues with new car nothing major

Body work is fine no rust ect all seems clean. Front splitter needs a respray and 1 side skirt and car should be looking pretty dam good. The s2000 dash thats in it seems to be a lose connection the speedo with mph is a bit tempermental cuts out at times but revs and petrol ect seem to always work will have a look at this today.

Interior needs a good scrub and should come up gd as new. The recaros are perfect though bolsters at the side are nice and firm.

Totally loving the k billet short shifter cracking bit of kit im a cnc miller and its top notch work.

Exhaust is a bit overkill and never gonna pass a 105db track limit. Its a 3.5 inch custom system which i need to get q bit quieter.

Car drives absolutly spot on gear changes flawlessly pulls all the way to redline in the gears i have tried without breaking speed limits of course.

Providing weather is nice today i plan stripping out the back seats throwing out the spare wheel ect and mite be purchasing some harnessess off my friend for the car.

near future mods the breaks could be done with an upgrade there totally fine for road use but id prefer a but more stopping power for the track.

also a roll cage and possibly bew steering wheel then i think i should have a fairly decent track/ semi road car.

The cars had power steering delete feels great on the road bit of a pain to park though.

Interesting read, thank you! Are there any other companies you would suggest for doing hybrid conversions? There seems to be a large difference in price/internals used and it's hard to find and quality information on the subject...

Possibly gonna grab those harnessess of my pal on the cheap.

Took 2 seconds to strip the rear out cars definetly been stripped out for track before by the looks of it.

anyone cleaned up recaros before fancy sharing advice on products to use to get them looking new again?

Also daily and the toy parked up at home together.

Either strip it out properly, put it back in, or carpet it out.

Was just a quick strip it of the main parts today. The boot part never came with carpet when i got the car so putting carpet in really aint an option. Im gonna take seats out next weekend and give them a good scrub down. Theres a tiny bit of surface rust where the spare wheel was kept this will be getting rubbed down and protected till i see about the inside getting a tidy up spray. Will see what else i can remove from the car. Would like the front to kind of remain carpeted since i will be driving it on the streets aswell. Will see what i come to at the weekend maby just rip it all out. Hopefully i can get the s2000 dash working properly this week.

I did 314 miles today driving my uni mate to his new flat in Bedford and going down at 70mph, sitting in traffic for 30 minutes and coming back at 60mph with no traffic I averaged 47.5mpg!

Well happy with that to say it's far from a motorway cruiser, that's nearly getting into diesel territory.

What makes you think its been stripped before?

hot water, normal old washing powder and some hard scrub will have any cloth seats lookin new again. When I first got my MK2 Recaros they were so caked in shit they almost looked like leather in places... Looked mint after.

Teg looks really cool, I like that a lot!

I'd advise against buying those harnesses though. Cheap nasty crap I'm afraid, and won't be comfy or nice to use at all.

either stick to lap belts, or go the whole hog with a 4/6 point 3'' harness with a centre buckle.

Going from my A3 with proper harnesses, into the Mini with the type in your pic, they feel REALLY uncomfy, and really unsafe too.

A guy I work with is currently in a critical state after having a head on collision :(

Broken pretty much everything, was in surgery for 12 hours yesterday and urgently needs more but they're not sure he's strong enough.

Apparently the guy he hit was on the wrong side of the road.

Pretty shitty to hear first thing on a Monday, hope he pulls through :(
