MadManMike
I guess here is a good place to ask this question as I get a feeling that Adam may know the answer. To save me needlessly ripping up the carpet on the "parcel shelf" of the Eunos, can anyone tell me what it's like underneath? Is it a fairly thin sheet of metal? My reason for asking is that due to space constraints, the small speakers I've installed in the car lack bass. They do sound good, but because they're small they lack some low end. I was thinking I may be able to install a small sub underneath the shelf carpet, cut out say an 8 inch diameter hole and bolt it on, with an amp in the boot. Put the carpet back over it and hey presto, hidden speaker. Any ideas? Drawbacks / technical issues?

MadManMike
If it makes you feel better, I'll probably have a million stupid questions to ask in the coming months... Happy to throw them your way!
Danny
It was the top google result
MadManMike
Depends what you searched for... mine came up with a few threads about people wanting to do it, but no useful info. I also found a shelf you can buy for $199, but obviously I'm not going to pay that when I can go mad with a Dremel. In all honesty I might just go for a small boot install, seems like it'll be easier and quicker (And less butchering of the car, which is always a plus!) dann2707
Nice to see you getting stuck in already Michael. My new ball joints has cured the loose feeling! I now have confidence when driving it around bends Weirdly enough there was no vertical play in the sockets literally what so ever. It's just when spinning it in its socket it felt notchy, like it would get to a certain point fairly smooth then hit a bit of friction then feel like notchy if that makes sense. CurtisRider
Mike if you are looking for a little extra punch then try fitting a 12v computer subwoofer. I have one in the porsche and it's fantastic! Cost basically nothing, built in amp, compact and gets bassy enough for a car.
MadManMike
Can you link me to the one you use?

MadManMike
How do you wire one of those in, Paul? That's also what I was wondering. Car's looking good man (4x4, whatever you want to call it). Nice photo
Skoze
it's just a thing isn't it haha! On a different note, It had an informal valuation done yesterday by a mate in the business - replacement cost for insurance should be at about £12k for it. Unreal how the prices of these things has gone up in 5 years. Cannot get my head around the current market for series ones.
CurtisRider
I have a creative 4.1 sub and the spare 2.1 is the same basically, they are the kind of thing most people have tucked in their attic or give away on free ads. Both subs are designed to run off 13v but a 12v car system is fine. I use the remote wire from the head unit (can use any feed that's live with the ignition) to trigger a relay which then Supples the power to the sub. The feed for the signal is from my headunit however you can use those things that splice into the speaker wiring too if you don't have that. I have the sub remote tucked into my arm rest so I can adjust it if needs be. I can take photos tomorrow if you like (it's at the garage for its MOT tomorrow), it's pretty basic stuff though! Can always add the speakers to the sub for some extra volume although that's not necessary if you have already upgraded. I will be using a similar setup on my camper and truck as it's more than good enough
Pete.M
That's awesome. Definitely want to give that a shot with an old sub I've got lying around. Thanks for sharing the info Paul.
CurtisRider
I mentioned all this a few months back never seen it done before but it certainly makes sense for a cheap yet effective upgrade! If you use just an MP3 player you could bypass your headunit altogether...
Skoze
thats what i'd like to do in the landy - just wire in some speakers with an aux cable but i am beyond shit at wiring (see previous fire-related posts )
CurtisRider
I can draw up a wiring diagram for you, it's not hard at all to fit something like this! I'm fairly shit at car fixingy stuff so if I can do it then you guys certainly can...
Jake.
Never popped off. Jubilee clip now on. All good. It didn't even have a pipe on for a few days so cable ties were better than nothing. This pipe is f**ked now so fitting new ones soon with alloy pipe between the two. CurtisRider
I'm fairly sure the turbo seals on my A3 are gone, there is lots of little black specks on the back of the car suggesting its spitting oil. Just how hard is it to rebuild a turbo? Or should I avoid this and have mine rebuilt or buy a brand new one? I had heard that rebuilds have a bit of a high failure rate, I'd rather just buy a new one if that is the case
Jake.
Curtis... Not good It'll slowly get worse, then you'll get a cloud of blue smoke whenever you drive and complete loss of power. If you're really unlucky bits of metal can go into the engine I've heard?! Go for a new one if you can, get yours looked at first and see if it's salvageable for a cheap cost. CurtisRider
I've had a turbo failure before on my Saab, just lost power and spat oil, fortunately nothing broke and the car was fine after a brand new replacement. The Audi is performing fine, but I know something needs to be done soon as i'm hammering through oil now Fingers crossed the Porsche passes tomorrow and then I can quickly fit up its new bits then take the Audi off the road for a strip down, i'm guessing the turbo will be a sod to get to on a 2010 1.8T? CurtisRider
Awfully tempted to bid on this, it's not even that far away from me too! Means mine can stay original and I can go make something a bit more special http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/porsche-924-944-turbo-replica-includes-/321523228025?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4adc471d79
