SamKidney
Right, so the same age as mine then. They're not that quick...what sore of power was this one? It felt it anyway, coming from driving comparatively tame and boring cars. I honestly couldnt tell you. I dont know enough about them as standard to even make an educated guess. MadManMike
Jardo - nip it in the bud before you post something that makes you look like a dick. Not everyone has driven the same cars you have, an S3 is pretty quick compared to many road cars, especially if it's been played with.
SamKidney
I half expected him to make a comment soon after I'd posted the original comment, so its no surprise really. Its quick, maybe not your idea of quick Jardo seeing as youve had years more driving experience than I have and from what Ive gathered have sampled your own share of built S3/A3s, but far quicker than most Ive previously experienced.
Pashley26
I'm just intrigued, because I've not heard of a V5 turbo before, so I was expecting to potentially be able to point you in the way of a build thread if you were able to tell me any more about the car... But you're not, and apparently Mike thinks I'm about to slip up and land on his scissors if I keep taking about it. So as you were.
dann2707
I've got a lovely and boringish update haha but it's something that's been bugging me for a while. Lots of pics of what is essentially just a brake and disc change but oh well... haha Completely changed the brake discs and pads all around. The discs were worn a lot and just didn't feel confidence inspiring. This coupled in by the fact that the rear o/s wheel bearing was humming at 35mph+ and the bearing being a part of the disc just made sense to change it all. This was the front. DSCN2617 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2618 by dann2707, on Flickr I simply undid the two bolts holding the disc on and hit it gently with a soft mallet and it came off DSCN2619 by dann2707, on Flickr New vs old DSCN2620 by dann2707, on Flickr New discs on. I went for Brembo HC's as heard they work really well with the clio set up. Lots of copper grease on the hub to prevent the disc seizing on. DSCN2621 by dann2707, on Flickr And then I changed the pads. I went for Mintex M1144's DSCN2622 by dann2707, on Flickr All on DSCN2624 by dann2707, on Flickr Then two days later (Today) I changed the rears. Started by jacking Boris up. DSCN2625 by dann2707, on Flickr This was the state of the rears. Quite a large lip on the edge of the discm on both the fronts too actually DSCN2626 by dann2707, on Flickr 17mm nut on the rear of the carrier and it simply comes off allowing changing of the pads. I then undid the 30mm hub nut. DSCN2627 by dann2707, on Flickr All off. DSCN2628 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2629 by dann2707, on Flickr This is the washer that i'd heard so much about, people not re-fitting them back to the new hubs/discs after changing and it giving massive problems afterwards. I made a note of which side up it was when removing. DSCN2630 by dann2707, on Flickr New stuff. DSCN2631 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2632 by dann2707, on Flickr Made a right mess of my carriers from all the grease. Need to clean them down when I get the time. DSCN2633 by dann2707, on Flickr And finally all on. DSCN2634 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2635 by dann2707, on Flickr
AdamR28
Done the hub nuts to exactly 175Nm? If not, beg / borrow / steal a torque wrench!
dann2707
Yeah read about that but my torque wrench only goes up to 125nm Did it to that and gave it a little bit more. But Ill take it to the garage at the weekend and get them to do it to that! Cheers for the reminder Ads
MadManMike
Can't believe someone is just giving me a cabin brace for free. In the VAG scene it would have been more like "Nah this one's rare mate, proper euro, £60 or £134 posted".

Random acts of kindness are everywhere.

True, I've given away no end of stuff to friends I've met through forums, on the whole though its folk trying to sell turds for big money (I'm guilty of this too, always some clown willing to pay it )

Pashley26
Same for me. I've given so many things to people to help them along the way. It's because Mike owned a Seat. - Just ordered some NS2-R's. Wooot
george_seamons
I love the VAG scene. A guy I have never met sent a £725 turbo setup, even though I had only paid £500 of it (had the rest to pay the next morning once a cheque had cleared). Very trusting! Also, another total stranger to me is sending me a cylinder head for free (other than postage) so I can mock my pipework route while my head is away being refurbished and ported. Love it
Pashley26
I got given a brand new complete AUM cylinder head when my head gasket went, all FOC. Just had to give him my old head so he could skim it and build it with race valves.
AdamR28
Seems like we're playing 'Scene Top Trumps': I got given a car (without an engine and a 'box). I guess it's the same with anything, there are good and bad people
george_seamons
Well done J-Rod, I bloody love my NS2-R's!
MadManMike
It's a bit different if you know people. Rainbird for example sent me a set of Cupra wheels and trusted that I'd pay him for them... I'm talking about the scene in generally, not the little social circles within it where people will help you out. My experience of VAG meets for example is 17 year olds wearing "Dope" hats, drinking McDonalds drive through Coke whilst sat in their car staring at other cars. Generalisation I know, but I feel I out grew it.
george_seamons
I didn't know either of them though, that's the point I was trying to make. Like you say though, I guess it depends on the circles they are in. It sounds like you were in the wrong group. It is pretty cliquey (I remember you experiencing this at Santa Pod one year when I met you, and you were parked up with a big group, but being ignored), and unless you have something special, you tend to get brushed to one side.
Pashley26
I think the Audi scene is a littler more grown up than the Seat and VW scenes which seem a bit Maccy D's in comparison. - I cannot wait for the NS2-R's George. I am fully 100% dedicated to the Motorsport route for the S3 now, and if it ruins it then it ruins it. But I'm going for it. Hopefully this will be a big step for me, some proper tires. The sprint day at Curborough really showed my car is struggling for front end grip, even with Eagle F1's. I am very reluctant to remove my S4 wheels because they are a bit of a trade mark that I am known for having, and they just look so right. So they are going in for a refurb hopefully next weekend whilst I am away in Edinbrough, and to have the NS2-R's fitted at the same time. Then come pay-day on the 25th I am going to wiz it down for a four wheel alignment. I am hoping this will all make a pretty big difference. Oh, and some 15mm spacers but only for looks. dann2707
New bearings and the car now feels so much better. I knew that play in the os rear was f**king things up!
Jolfa
You just reinforced Mike's point That was the intention It's predominantly full of bellends who think rare = big money! In reality its generally rare for a reason And the aforementioned twats in flat peaks with nothing to say unless they're gushing over a "big player"s car. So gay The Audi branch of the VAG scene on the other hand are only interested in bone stock OEM+ cars, which is about as dull Edited September 12, 2014 by Jolfa
