Duncy H
Can someone reccomend some detailing products for me please, I know it's probably been asked a thousand times but can't find anything that reccomends particular products or what to do in a simple manner. I've got two cars that want a thorough going over, a Nissan Navara pick up truck that gets used and abused and never really cleaned and the the mx5. They both want a deep clense, from what I can make out and what I've read they will both need severely decontaminating and sorting out. Any pointers really appreciated. Pashley26
I can see it... Maybe I'm just attuned to seeing 8L's so it jumps out at me. Stranger things have happened at sea. Oh, but some Britemax Iron max and some Zymol cleaner wax. Pretty much a two step "wow my car looks nice" process for minimal effort. Prawny Baby
Good work at Snett Georgos! I still need to get to Snett to see how the A3 goes there. I'm told it's a circuit that would suit it. Just a shame it's SOOOO far away. Congrats to Dann for taking on the batton of 'too many pics of same' - Have you removed the little black stickers that sat inside your grill Dann? To add a pic, not that anyone cares, here's a few of us at Goodwood a few weeks ago:

Duncy H
Cheers Jardo I've ordered some, I appreciate your pics prawn even though I don't often have much to say. Been having a rumage around today, moved the front number plate, removed the spoiler, found one of the speakers to not work so went and bought some but they're the wrong size. I have a friend that runs a wheel refurb place and could get them done cheap, any ideas on colours? I fancied gold but I've been told I'm not allowed ha. Other than that just gunna run it as is.
AndrewEH1
Looks lovely, nice and clean I'm very jealous! Matt black for the wheels? Might be too tuner though...

Pashley26
Never been a fan of Chemical Guys, other than their V32/34/36 compounds. They always seem to be far too wet, and sloppy.
dann2707
I just came to a junction to press my brakes and although they worked, I felt a dodgy feeling through my foot and an audible "knock" noise. Wondering what this is? And is it dangerous? Although just came back from my tracking being done and it's always done this but when accelerating it's pulling to the right a little bit like torque steer? Is this normal? Was doing it before tracking, that's all spot on now. Has new inner tie rods and outer track rod ends. Haz
You probably have a cracked ABS reluctor ring. Tenner for the part, then it's hub off, break off the cracked one, clean off the rust and you can either beat the new one on or put it in the oven for a bit as hot as it will go, then it just slips right on and cools back down to fit. They do torque steer a little, very plain diff and unequal length drive shafts. Not normally that noticeable though, so if it's bad take it to a specialist
dann2707
Why would a cracked reulctirro ring him eye that problem though?
Haz
The sensor sees the larger gap as a locked wheel, so it pumps the ABS. Edited August 30, 2014 by Haz
monkeyseemonkeydo
Yup, had that on my old Rover- ABS would randomly kick in when no where near loss of traction. In other news, is that Jeremy Clarkson driving Prawn's car?
dann2707
It's definitely not abs kicking in!

I've only used so far their Jetseal 109 and their V34 and V36 so far and been really impressed by the results. Oh I've used the Mr Pink shampoo too, smells lovely and suds beautifully. AdamR28
New PB of Snetterton 300 of 2:25. For comparison, there was a 700bhp Noble M12 which was doing 2:19, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS which had lots of toys doing 2:22. Seriously chuffed! For the record, Nankang NS2-R's are absolutely insane. They give SO much grip it's untrue...a must have been nearly 10 seconds quicker a lap than with road tyres! I flashed a grey Leon on my way into the circuit on Thursday night, hoping it was you, haha! Got on well today, qualified 2nd and won my class in both races which were on Motors TV, pretty pleased with that! We had our dyno session too, 98bhp at the hubs and still managed to lap the 300 layout in 2:25.1 (over 5s faster than last time I was there), you need to get a wiggle on George The Nankangs are indeed pretty decent, they come on pretty quick too, but they do go off in a similar manner if you push them hard.

Wasn't me, haha! There was another grey LCR there, an '04 plate with red intercooler hoses...guessing it was him. That's an impressive time! I genuinely don't think I could go any quicker (other than perhaps with an LSD), you must have considerabley larger kahunas than me! The track day has killed my car, which is a touch annoying. It's now got a block with no pistons, and no head on. Trying to find the cause of my idle misfire, but not having much luck!
AdamR28
Anyone over the limit on the dyno? Well. It's quite a long story. Basically we all got pulled into the scrutineering bay after qualifying, and told we couldn't lift the bonnets on our cars until we'd been on the dyno. One of the Mk1 guys was up first, he made 103bhp. The limit is meant to be '130bhp at the flywheel, less 20% for drivetrain losses' - which to me sounds like 130 MINUS 20%, giving 104, right? Apparently not, it's 108.something plus 20% to make 130. So that's stupid. Now, the first car that went on had recently been to the same dyno I'd been to, which is the second most accurate type you can get, where the pods that measure torque bolt directly to the hubs. Most dynos are traditional rolling roads where the driven wheels sit on rollers, and they measure the torque produced. However, tyre pressure and even tyre tread depth can affect readings in this case. In both types of dyno (hub and rollers) the temperature of the diff and gearbox oil will affect the readings - hotter = thinner = less drag = dyno thinks the car has more power. when the dyno has warmed up it will also have less drag, affecting the readings again. As you will probably suspect, the first car went on the dyno when the dyno was stone cold... sigh... (The only way to measure flywheel power accurately is to remove the engine from the car and bolt the crank straight into the torque reading thingy, but obviously we can't do that.) So anyway, the first guy that went on the rollers made 103bhp. He'd made 87bhp at the hub dyno which I'd made 92 on. So at this point I was getting a bit worried - I would be very very close to 108bhp you'd think? Well no. As the car cools down, the tyres deflate by as much as 8psi, the diff and gearbox oils cool down, so there is more drag in the system, and I made 98. The only car we really wanted to see - you know which one that is, Mark! - ended up being last on the dyno after waiting for nearly 2 hours, and only made 97bhp, apparently. Then after the dyno had been completed she went 2 seconds a lap quicker in the next session, which was weird... TL:DR - They f**ked it up again, but I don't care any more! Haha, oops, oh well You could definitely go quicker, I'm sure the car will be capable! Do you ever get instruction? I was hoping to be down a bit earlier than 7:50 so I could try and jump in with you for a session, but alas Bessell was poorly organised and we had to make two fuel stops and a food stop on the way down, tut! Oh balls, that's not good... Hope you can find it
Mark W
Sounds fairly bullshitty to me, although you don't really need me to tell you that Glad you got the two wins anyway EDIT: In that it's semi-related, just watched the last 10 or so laps of the MotoGP from Silverstone. Marc Marquez is f**king ridiculous. Basically rubbing his front tyre against Lorenzo's elbow, then at the next corner slamming the door shut was fairly impressive, not to mention sliding it in to and out of every corner. So good... EDIT #2: Incidentally Ads, thanks for the link to that streaming site - used it loads of times for F1, football, MotoGP and so on.
AdamR28
Haha. Indeed. That sounds mega - incidentally I'm currently using that site to watch Liverpool spank Spurs, but I wish I'd watched the MotoGP now, haha. Also incidentally I could hear the bikes this morning, stayed over at Bessells which is damn close to the track! And you're welcome In related news, one of the dudes from Mission Motorsport got on the podium yesterday, pretty impressive stuff given his lower leg setup, which was caused by an IED... To be fair, a bit of racing probably makes him feel sleepy compared to the shit he's seen in his time, but massive respect for him. Aaannndd edit #2, some foot camera footage from Friday, which might be kinda interesting for geek types:
Duncy H
Foot cam looks impressive! The mx5 wants some new rear shocks on, it's currently bouncing all over the shop. Any recommendations on what to get or where from? Kinda tempted to go all out and get some coilovers, are the sub £200 sets anygood?
