AndrewEH1
So, MX5. 1.6 or 1.8? I would have said 1.8, but I've had two people tell me the 1.6 is a better engine... I'll be buying in the next month hopefully, once my car is fixed up a little more and sold. I want to do my research and not jump into the first one I see. I think the general thinking is get the one that is in best condition for the price you're willing to pay.
MadManMike
Adam - the 1.6 is a fair bit slower though right? I'd like the best performance possible, so if the 1.8 is significantly quicker I'll go for that - not too worried about revving it too much
Pete.M
Lol, turns out we also got "fastest rwd Ford" on the drag strip, despite the fact that it's slow as hell. For some reason there's a "classic ford" class where all the faster rwd cars were. Strange but I'm not complaining, especially because it's my name next to the time. The difference in 0-60 times is about half a second, for example (I think). Basically, Andrew is right
Tom Booth
not too worried about revving it too much That's where the fun is thou?
MadManMike
1.6 it is then Thanks chaps!
AdamR28
Eunos is a much better buy than a UK car, btw. ~25bhp more, LSD (which may or may not lock up any more, haha), less chance of being a rust-bucket as it's the import. Might be trickier for insurance though...
Mark W
I didn't really know about the 'rev it' aspect of things when I took Adam's car out for a spin a while back. It felt really fun to just drive around in at first but I was a little underwhelmed. Then I let it rev higher up the range, and things suddenly made sense... MadManMike
I'm not going for a mk1 Adam, otherwise yeah I'd look at the Eunos (I am assuming the Eunos is only mk1, as I've not seen a newer one?) Sounds like I'll be giving it some stick then, based on Mark's review haha
AdamR28
In that case I assume a Mk3, cos I won't let you buy a Mk2
MadManMike
Whatever a 51 or 03 plate is. I suspect it's a mk2 and I suspect the reason you won't let me is because they are the gayest looking ones. However, I'm looking for a slightly more comfortable interior, newer for reliability and I'm lead to believe the sound system is better - this is quite a major factor for me as it's my daily. Also, I'm not TOO fussed about the looks, as I'll be inside it.
James Quigley
My brother just bought a Mk1 Eunos. No Joke. It's a proper banger too. Holes in the roof, splintery Nardi wheel, few dents. He got it for £700 which I think is overpriced.

Did the same when I did the engine conversion on my metro. Went for a drive and was so disappointed as I was driving it like a diesel, changing gear low down. Next day took it to the redline and smiles all around

The stereo should be better on it though, for sure. Buy on condition, not age or mileage! My brother just bought a Mk1 Eunos. No Joke. It's a proper banger too. James Quigley
It's fair, which is the best word to describe it. It is unmodified, original alloys (pitted/oxidised to buggery) and came with a pimp luggage rack.

I was told the mk2 was a little better... Is it true the 2.5 rots quicker than the rest? It seems like the MX5 is a bit of a minefield and there's varying opinions... MadManMike
So I've reserved a battery for the Leon at ECP, collecting later - managed to get one for £45, web discount. All the other batteries on there were £65+ so I'm happy with that. Going to attempt to fit it and sort out my glow plug wiring too, hopefully that'll sort out my fault codes. Once the dash lights are all out I can crack on with selling it and start viewing some hairdressers cars
Skoze
I need some quick thoughts from the masses - what forums are people on/ what websites do you or your mates follow? Doing some work about 'em and I trust you lot.
Jake.
Pistonheads, speedhunters, caddyforum.

Pete.M
I don't actually use the big ones like pistonheads or retrorides that much. Mostly volvoforums and turbobricks, of course. But my friends do use pistonheads more often. I don't really use car news websites either, but I do watch a lot of car programs on YouTube. MadManMike
I only really use SWDubs forum / site. Used to be on Secret Seat Society and SeatCupra.Net but got fed up with the bullshit. Planning on joining MX5Nutz shortly, for obvious reasons.
