Danny
Is it just me that thinks that golf looks awful? +
Tom Booth
A guy that used to come into work had a stunning 964 turbo, he had the full car stripped all upholstery restored, engine disassembled and rebuild, any minor paintwork sorted (it was immaculate for its age) and rebuilt poly bushed and on AST coilovers as recommended by our local independent porsche specialists. Suspension alone cost him 5k! God knows what his final bill was. The poor thing lasted 3 months before it hugged a tree on a wet day I've only ever driven 1 Porsche and was MIIIIGHTY impressed. It was a series 2 GT3 and I only ran to the shops and back in it, it belonged to my old boss. He took me out in it a few times in anger and it was a frighteningly fast car, just seemed so planted and abit point and shoot, great fun. It's my dream to one day own a completely standard 69-71 C series 911, best shape they ever produced and seemed to have all the bugs ironed out by then, fantastic looking cars.
Pashley26
Sounds immense! I've only been a passenger in a 964; and sat in the drivers seat and said broom broom. To date I've been in a 996 GT2 Clubsport, passenger in a 996 Turbo. driven a GT3 RS, driven a 996 4S, driven a 996 3.6 Targa, driven a 944 Turbo, a normal 944 and a 924. And they're really good. For anybody who hasn't driven a Porsche, think VW/Audi solidity and build quality with the driving feeling and precision of an MX5 but the suspension of a BMW. That's probably the best way I could describe the cheaper obtainable cars I've driven. Chase the dream Tom, now is the time before they are unobtainable. Tom Booth
I am, a local dealers got a stunning Octavia VRS in in race blue, I'm chasing that down!
Jake.
Estate or saloon? Drove a 1.6tdi estate to the Italian Alps and back and it was a real pleasure to drive, didn't have much grunt though so would definitely want a bigger engine/more boost if it was my car. Skoze
Hence 'there's a VRS'
Jake.
He didn't state if it was an estate or not? And I was just saying that the smaller engined version wasn't that fun, and that a VRS is the one I'd go for if I had pick of the mix. What's the problem?
Tom Booth
Estate, I've no idea why anyone would ever buy a saloon. Stupidest car style ever.
AdamR28
Oi, I had a saloon Octavia vRS :-P was a cracking car that. Had very useful load the space, from memory the estate floor is raised in the back so you have just as much room in the hatchback (and a better looking car). bing
My stepmom had a mk1 Vrs, what a car. Handled amazing, went like stink, decent brakes. I'd have 1 tomorrow if I wanted to pay the tax on them
Pete.M
Finally got to drive our project Sierra. Welded diff in the rain was most enjoyable. Taking it to a drift track tomorrow. Good weekend is good.
Skoze
kwality! What engine did you end up running? I love the 'nothing to see here officer' wheel selection...
Pete.M
Ha, it does look like the sort of car that will attract police attention. We just got a 2.3 block (from a galaxy) and modified the 2.0 dohc head to fit on it, plus bigger injectors to suit. It's a fairly uncommon build, and it only gives a little bit of extra torque. Not exactly rapid but it does the job. Hope you either get your capri sorted, or buy that mad rover!

You know they have like 3 separate boot containers right? My Dad keeps his bike toolkits in one of them... They're not massive but incredibly useful. CurtisRider
Anybody knowledgeable on the 120bhp fiat diesels? The one in the astra smokes a bit, presumably first port of call is to clean out all the inlet piping and clean the EGR? Do these engines have a DPF? Met up my my pal from Burton the other day and the repair/ rebuild bill, parts alone is nigh on a grand. Seriously wondering if it's worth the hassle, or just throw new timing gear on and punt it soon. Going to see the Rover next week...
AdamR28
Racing at Oulton yesterday, back on form with a 2nd and a 3rd (which should have been a 2nd - not forceful enough in defence on the last lap!). 1st place was again taken by someone who has at least 10bhp over the limit, really really hoping the dyno is at the next round at Snetterton... PS: The Island circuit at Oulton sucks balls compared to the full one.
Pete.M
The Saph did us proud yesterday. Ford Shootout 2014 Best Drifter! I must be honest though, we were the only Ford on the drift track so we won by default. There were three of us driving and we each did two runs, plus a run with a pro guy driving (Ade Brannan) so the poor old Saph did 7 drift runs and probably 5 or so drag strip runs. (and god knows how many clutch dumps!) Then my mate bust a bottom end bearing (or something) on his legacy gtb, so the Saph had to finish the day by towing a legacy home! Two things did break on the Saph though; we popped a hole in the power steering pipe (just bodged it to last the day), and the fuel tank strap broke but we managed to tie it up fairly securely. The car is pretty bad for drifting, my Volvo is probably better! I think it needs a rear-anti roll bar at the very least. The current setup is useless for drifting because it has a massive front anti-roll bar and no rear anti-roll bar. Also, on our first runs, apparently I was easily the best. Looking forward to next time.
MadManMike
Leon MK1 - best battery to go for? When I say best, I mean best value for money - I'm looking to sell the car so I don't want to plough too much in to it, but it needs a new one... Also, best places to buy? I've never bought a car battery before so no idea what I'm looking at to be honest. Cheers chaps!
AdamR28
Local motor factor or EuroCarParts / CarParts4Less, cheapest one you can find that's the right size. Just pop your reg in.

Jolfa
Go to scrap yard and exchange 10 of your pounds for the biggest diesel battery that will fit in the tray then never worry about cranking amps again
MadManMike
So, MX5. 1.6 or 1.8? I would have said 1.8, but I've had two people tell me the 1.6 is a better engine... I'll be buying in the next month hopefully, once my car is fixed up a little more and sold. I want to do my research and not jump into the first one I see. AdamR28
1.8 if you want to trundle around (has more mid-range), 1.6 if you want to thrash it (likes t obe revved). Buy on condition of the chassis, everything is cheap and easy to replace.
