Prawny Baby
Lots of happy. Went to the track, did lots of driving and managed to lap the track in a time which seems to be a record for a no aero/stock engined M3. Talk about euphoria... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwnrbCu6oqI I look forward to watching this when i get home from work!

J.KYDD
To clarify, I mean I could stop off whilst coming to Prawns party as I will be going that way. Bank holiday weekend. Hmmm, bit late as I think the stickers are going to be ready in the next few weeks. I'll have a google and see who in the area offers quality valets. Out of interest (as I really know nothing regarding any of this), what would be a reasonable price to expect to pay for a decent bodywork valet? dann2707
I charged £150 to do a porsche a few years ago but not sure if that was fair or not. Then £90 to do my cousins corsa last month. Not sure if that's about right though.
dann2707
I has update yes. New number plates and lambda sensor Starting with the old. Was awful to look at and had rusty screws etc. DSCN2159 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2160 by dann2707, on Flickr YUM DSCN2161 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2162 by dann2707, on Flickr Removed and cleaned behind it. DSCN2163 by dann2707, on Flickr And all on. I managed to accidentally stick it on prematurely and it's a little too much to the left Couldn't remove it easily too. Can you notice or is it just me being a bit anal? DSCN2164 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2165 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2166 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2178 by dann2707, on Flickr Then on to the front one. Opted for a smaller plate as the standard one hangs over the edge and looks a bit crap. Before DSCN2167 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2168 by dann2707, on Flickr After. Nicely fills the recess DSCN2170 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2171 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2172 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2173 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2174 by dann2707, on Flickr DSCN2177 by dann2707, on Flickr I then went on to fitting the lambda sensor. Opted for a universal one, genuine bosch though. Was only £17!! Nice. Seems really decent quality. So removed my old one. 2014-07-02 17.12.02 by dann2707, on Flickr 2014-07-02 17.12.11 by dann2707, on Flickr And crimped them together. Not really a fan of soldering as it gets brittle and cracks easily. 2014-07-02 17.19.37 by dann2707, on Flickr I did then tape them up nice and neatly afterwards Okay so I plugged the lambda sensor in and fired up the Torque app on my phone to monitor the voltage levels. This was the old one. Notice how the volts drop straight to zero on it's down cycle. This is baaaaaaad and should apparently read 0.1v for a working sensor. (should be between 0.1v - 0.8v) Screenshot_2014-07-02-17-33-19 by dann2707, on Flickr Now this is after the new one is fitted. Now notice the graph reads a tasty 0.1v! Yet to go for a spin to try it but seems to idle a lot lot better now. Screenshot_2014-07-02-17-32-57 by dann2707, on Flickr

dann2707
I just prefer it. From what I've seen solders more prone to fatigue failure. It obviously has its applications and looks neater and tighter but I just am a massive fan of crimping. Always have been
forteh
Solder gives a far better joint if done properly, however if the cable is loose and not properly supported then the wire will fatigue at the edge of the joint; crimps generally have enough stress relief built into the housing that it supports it. Crimped joints will suffer far more from corrosion, you could always crimp then solder for a really strong joint
JDâ„¢
Had a fan and aux belt sitting in the shed for a while, and thought I'd get them fitted this evening. Surprisingly quick to get off, only to realise that EuroCarParts gave me the wrong ones Anyone know anywhere online that'll have 6PK1538 and 5PK865 in stock that aren't ECP? None of the few I've tried off a search for 'car parts' have them both, which is aggravating.
SamKidney
Getting close to the time I need to start thinking about getting my car ready for the road. Am I right in saying all I need to send off is the Vehicles V5 to notify a change of ownership/keeper to the DVLA? Im familiar with MOT/Tax etc.. but this confuses me..
CurtisRider
JD ECP are usually pretty good, give them a buzz and ask for those specific belts? They do have some random stuff on there sometimes though, there's 3 different size belts listed for my car and 2 of them are WAAAAYYY off being the right length! Jake.
Dan that reminds of a part of my electrical test on mechanics. I kept thinking the answer to the most reliable cable join method was solder. Turned out it was crimping. It's down to the wire being delicate or something and soldering could cause damage.
forteh
See my reply above, soldering will always give a better electrical connection but without mechanical support the wire will fail (not the joint itself unless it's badly done). I've seen more failed crimps than soldered joints in cars. Original 40+ year old solder still good, 2 year old crimp corroded and loose is often the case. GavLawson
Properly Soldered joints are not as prone to fatigue failure as badly crimped crimps are. Also fatigue failure usually occurs when a wire has been soldered into a cup or onto a terminal and not fixed properly/wicking has occurred. It doesn't usually happen on lap splices because of the flexibility of the rest of the wire. Crimps are also prone to corrosion, vibration, water wicking and can be pulled out. I'm all for crimping but use a ratchet crimper stagger the crimps and seal the joint with self amalgamating tape. Also never solder then crimp, it doesn't work. Turned out it was crimping. It's down to the wire being delicate or something and soldering could cause damage. Do neither. Depin the plug and get some new pins or a whole new plug. No ugly joins then. (thats assuming you can get new plugs)
