The Car Thread

Hoping for a little pre-diagnosis on the missuseses car, got some sort of cooling problem.

It lost all fluid the other day, and she hasn't driven it until I could have a look today. I filled it up, went for a drive and within 2 miles it was overheating. Pulled over and it had lost fluid again, but no visible leak. Checked the oil cap and there's no signs of mayo in there.

Brought it home, went through the process to bleed the system. Noticed that the coolant reservoir has some bubbling going on while it's running - that would point at there being a leak I can't see, right?

I'll probably just put it in the garage, but if there's anything obvious I could check out that'd be useful.

Insurance doesn't work like that.

There's a million different thing that impact the cost.

Why not just pretend to be 17 and do some price comparison sites?

I wouldn't even bother insuring a car at 17 unless you have loaded parents though, they sting you on even tiny crap cars.

So.

My mate Rob owns a very very fast, beautifully mechanically maintained and very well modified EVO 8 MR. A really rare car with a full HKS tuning kit, ball bearing turbo upgrade, twin plate xeddy paddle clutch. It's the business.

His dad bought it when it was 6 months old and had all the modifications done, and imported it. And owned it up until a few years ago when Rob bought it off him.

It gets serviced every 6 months and has been known to do less than 100 miles a year.

Rob doesn't know how to wash, or polish a car though. This is an issue.

In the time he has owned it I kid you not he has never done more than wash it with a bucket and sponge.

The result was this -

So. I have been badging Rob for about two years to let me sort his car out, for free.

Girlfriend was away this weekend, Rob and I agreed not to get drunk on Saturday night (we did) and that the day would be dedicated to the "pink princess" as I call it.

I got shit faced last night, and had to put the timing back an hour. But Rob bought me a pack of fags, I drank 6 cans of red bull and eventually made my way there.

The Evo is currently being driven by our friend Andy P, due to is inability to keep his S4 running.

So we had to pick the car up from his.

Got the car back to Robs and we washed it with Britemax Clean-Max PH balanced shampoo. (Which is fantastic)

The car was then iron-x'd to death.

I have never seen so much fall out removed from a freshly cleaned car.

The car was then dried, and Jesus Christ the paintwork is appalling.

Every panel was like this -

10494983_1502864513262058_61248648545833

I considered doing a test on the petrol cap, but a Rob and I agreed that whatever I did to it couldn't possibly make it worse. So I tooled up with my DA, a Hexlogic yellow pad, and Chemical a guys V32.

And I attacked the rear 1/4.

10458957_1502864686595374_79040142618144

There was no lacquer on the car, at all. Anywhere.

10380661_1502865183261991_89253004630092

Rear 1/4 restored I moved onto my two problem panels. The boot, and the roof.

The boot was hard work.

10259299_1502865363261973_38969267270057

But probably the most rewarding panel.

The roof was seriously hard work.

10428126_1502865423261967_77778355520560

So much paint had to come off I was terrified of making it too thin, but patience, slow speed and the long work time of V32 was paying off.

I had to let Rob have a go, so I gave him some instruction and set him loose on a 1/4 of the roof.

Happy with that! Onto the other side.

Jardo.

I'm lazy and can't be arsed to clean my car.

You. Me. Renault Clio that hasn't been washed in 4 months. Some of your soapy shit + time. Some of my money.

You in?

Yeah sure. Let me know when.

Sunday the 6th?

I'm drinking the night before, so will be basically useless on the Sunday, seems like a good as time as any to clean the car.

Basically will need a full wash, strip the shit wax that's on her, de-contamination and new wax. Not sure I cba with a full polish, but I'll get your opinion on that. Would also like to put something on the wheels to help with brake dust?

Let me know what you think.
