Pashley26
Have you checked for rodents in the manifold?
Prawny Baby
it'll almost certainly be a boost hose popped off. All the smoke suggests too much fuel, because it'll be sucking in air and fuelling for it without that air getting to the engine. Follow the pressure run from the turbo right to the inlet jake and through the intercooler, somewhere, most than likely hidden under the bumper, will be a split or popped off hose. Jake.
The head mechanic at my college said it's why there's oil fumes coming out of the back, the oil that usually cools the turbo is going through it. The valve that usually let's air into the engine (turbo pressured air to create power) it just poured through that and burnt the oil in the chambers and creates massive clouds of smokeIf that makes sense? Could maybe still be a boost pipe. Let's hope so would be much cheaper to fix
dann2707
It will be a popped boost pipe. The car wouldn't sound that normal on those videos you sent me dude if it was something that detrimental. I'd check the boost pipes again! Are they caked in oil inside them? Look at the one straight off the turbo from under the car mate x
Jake.
Will do man! Hope so. I'd be quite surprised if it's the turbo itself as its so new but it can happen. Getting it on the ramp tomorrow in the garage and will be able to get a proper look if anything make it better.
Danny
Home made smoke tester?
dann2707
I'm not sure what the mechanic is insinuating though. If the turbo seals had gone you'd be hearing a horrendous scraping sound as the impellers and compressors would be hitting the housing and it's not so it won't be that that's failed. I'm still sold on a popped boost pipe.
Jake.
Very true that, maybe he was suggesting worst case scenario? I'm still 80 percent sure on popped/cracked boost pipe, let's see how tomorrow goes! onwards and upwards
Jake.
It is burning a LOT of oil though which is why I'm fairly sure it's the turbo. Dan where'd you get your turbo from? Gonna have to order a new one I think.
dann2707
Mate it won't be that! I promise you stop going to the worst case scenario. Check the pipes properly before making such rash decisions

Jake.
The entire back of the car is caked in dots of oil haha. Did a diagnostics on a snap-on computer.
Greetings
If anyone's interested (probably not) here's an onboard from the last sprint comp. Finished last due to bad tyres, this run was done on borrowed tyres and managed to get the 2nd best time. It's mostly 90deg. bends but this is actually my favourite round of the year, it's incredibly challenging. Most drivers from each class will arrive within 0.5s making every single moment during the run count. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGWkf65tO2c

Jake.
Coolant is fine, I thought the same. I'm fairly sure it's the turbo itself.
Jake.
The bearing in the turbos turbine has gone. Lol great just my luck. Edited June 25, 2014 by Jake.
MadManMike
Welcome to my world mate, 35 miles after collecting my car the turbo went bang! Mine cost me £830 in total as I had to get the car towed to a garage too. I paid over the odds as I had no choice.
JD™
Got my insurance renewal through last night – £720odd quid. You've heard the old saying? Nope. Haven't even started ringing yet and comparison websites are showing up £410~ I hate renewals.
Prawny Baby
The bearing in the turbos turbine has gone. Lol great just my luck. Not cool man Are you absolutely sure? Sadly, things often go wrong with perfectly good cars when sold. Although it shouldn't matter, different people drive in different ways, and especially when you have a new car you tend to thrash it for the first few weeks, which will often show up hidden issues that the previous owner may never have known about
Jake.
When you put your finger on it and move it, it moves at least 5mm which is loads. I asked all the qualified mechanics in my college to double check I was right and they all agreed. Afterwards when parking it back in a space it leaked 2 liters of oil in about 20 metres... Yeah I guess, just really really stressful as the caddy is untaxed and sorn now plus no insurance so I have nothing to get about. Really need the car back on the road to give mum lifts to work! While we're at it, I desperately need to order a new turbo (time to borrow even more money yay!..). I'm going to go for a brand new one and a standard one, Dan had a refurbished hybrid turbo fitted. It's also been remapped, is there any precautions I should take before buying a standard turbo? Also will I lose a lot of power?
Prawny Baby
you'll lose lots of power yes, and you'll need the map changing again too, back to what was on it before for the stock turbo All round sucks to be honest.
Jake.
But if I get the same turbo I won't? I've read up if too much boost is in an high milage car the car will have a very shortened lifespan...
Jake.
I'm gonna do a compression test on the system to see how much psi it holds, if it's lower than average I'll keep the boost down I guess.
