Duncy H
I'm in a bit of a predicament. I've managed to brake my collar bone and elbow so obviously can't drive for a while. My insurance runs out in October I think and no claims at my age makes a lot of difference, got three years I think. I was going to sell my van, is there any way I can still carry on my policy in a way and get an extra years no claims? Think I've done 10000 miles on a limited 120000 mile policy so far. Or am I going to have to lump it and use 3 years no claims rather than 4 when I've got some transport again?
dann2707
But did you check the gaps? If you have a weak spark it's going to be burning the charge inefficiently, I don't know if the ECU adjusts the fuel ratio based purely on incoming air flow or whether it takes into account the properties of the exhaust gas. If the cat is blocked/knackered then that would kill your emmissions unless there is a sensor downstream of the cat as well; either way changing/checking the lambda would be first port of call for me I'm going to check out the lambda sensor today. Not sure what i'm looking for, obviously if it's broken but dirty? Do they clean up? Any tests I can do with my multimeter?
forteh
To be honest I've no idea, the only engine I mess around with has a carburetor A bit of Google-fu should see you right though!

*gentlydoesit
Not decided yet, I did think a 1.8t a4 or passat just so it could donate spares when I 1.8t my 924. Something more barge like would be better though, I guess a 90s 5 series, 9-5 or a6 would be my main choices I thought the 9 5 drove sweet (aero hot, ) not barge like at all really, but not as big in the boot area as I thought it should be Shame it spontaneously combusted

dann2707
I got torque up and running and did two logs. One of the first sensor 1. I'm guessing that looks pretty much spot on and healthy? The second sensor however returned this graph when doing the same log. This is sensor 2 Absolutely nothing, however that's sensor 2 presumably the post-cat sensor? (there are two in the exhaust system one precat and one post cat) But if it was completely dead surely it would bring up an emission light on my dash or some kind of error? SamKidney
Best spot for tyres (cheappppp)? Been offered some MK3 Cavalier fan blades to use for free, they just need some tyres. Wanting some TR-1 Toyo Proxes, what else would you recommend?
Jake.
Need some new tyres too. Anyone got any recommendations? I'd happily pay a bit extra to have more grip, also thinking about winter coming up... Reckon best thing to do is to get a set of cheap wheels off eBay or something? Just find some steelies with a half decent set of tyres for winter. I'm keeping my steelies for winter. I have good tyres on those but I want alloys ahha Edited June 22, 2014 by SamKidney
Jake.
Haha I seee, yeah I think I'll do that. Yeah that's fair enough, why don't you look at a set that you can put on your Honda when you eventually get it?
SamKidney
I'd rather get a set when I have the civic as against run the risk of ruining wheels on a car that's not worth them haha

CurtisRider
Gave the Astra a wash as it was filthy, started polishing it but then got bored... probably should get that over with so I can get it sold :$ Just need to figure out a power steering issue thats developed since doing the gearbox, I must not have connected a plug or something. The Audi decided to sniff its older cousins bum, both need cleaning as they are getting a bit manky! Audi isn't getting terribly good MPG, about 34mpg doing 80 on the motorways and 24 in the city, lots lower than what you guys claim to get in your older 1.8ts? Edited June 22, 2014 by CurtisRider
Jake.
For starters you're doing 80. If you want decent mpg stick at 60. I get 40mpg flooring it everywhere. 50-60 town driving and 70+ on motorways.
craigjames
34 MPG at 80 isn't that bad really, my A3 will do 44 MPG (calculated) doing a long run at 70ish.
Jake.
Got two snaps the other day at sunrise. Then today I see this; Don't even know how?! Quite upset about that. Anyone know the best way to repair it or if it's a full-new bumper replacement? Hasn't even come into contact with anything either... Maybe a car scraped it while I was parked?
*gentlydoesit
If the scratch is down to the prer/plastic I'd go for a respray, smart repairs tend to look gash. Is that a crack under the light? If it is, this stuff is really good http://3mcollision.com/3m-super-fast-repair-adhesive-50-ml-04747.html probably a cheaper alternative out there though Edited June 22, 2014 by *gentlydoesit
Jake.
Thanks for that. Not sure what I'll do as the whole thing has been pushed across, think I'll give the whole car a clean tomorrow then take the bumper off and have a look at it. Depending how badly warped it is I may just have to get a new bumper on eBay or whatnot when a decent one at a decent price comes up in my colour. I just got back from a drive and feel way better than I did now, still disappointed though. Bloody love this car and have way more motivation to work on it than I did with the caddy. I think I'll end up selling the caddy to be honest, my heart is sold on this now. I'm still a deep fan of Volkswagen though, I'd love to get a golf of some sort at some point in my life. Or maybe a type 3 fastback, not sure if I could go back to a classic after getting used to this though.
*gentlydoesit
I think if you loosen all the fixings it might just slide back into place. maybe a bent mount.. vice job How much is a replacement? Shouldn't be more than a £100 repair if you remove/repair/prep/replace it yourself. I prefer older cars, there's more feel.
