The Car Thread

As mentioned previously in this thread, gasket paper or cereal box could be used, although if it's for the exhaust you might need a metal one? I'm sure boumsong Saud he'd used cardboard exhaust gaskets before?

There aren't enough pictures in here.

I was quite pleased with myself, swapped the pads over all on my own without even asking Prawn a thing. I'm basically a pro.

Ordered a simple boost pressure switch for the meth, I really cannot be bothered with a complicated controller. I have a green LED in the dash, nicely mounted next to the stereo surround. So I want to get that wired to the switch.

Obviously it will be Prawn that does that, we all know I am incapable of playing with wires.

Also, can we please stop listing nice shiny things on USRT, I would have purchase a roll centre correction kit last night if they were available yet.

And I want a liquid.

Thanks to a couple of people I know who've convinced me it's the way to go, I'm thinking of selling up the caddy and getting myself a 1.9TDi car of some sort. May even leave the caddy in drive if I can find a way to afford to do that.

Bit sad but happy I know what I want at the same time, tax on caddy comes up at the end of the month. £130 or £225. Really dunno if I want to just declare it sorn and leave on the drive, main reason being I'd save up a fair few pennies by not driving it over summer + it'll get me actually riding places on my fixie again which I kinda miss doing.

Id imagine a cereal box gasket would blow out quicker than exhaust paste? Also, would it be beneficial to use exhaust paste on the inner of the join with high temp silicone around the edge? It's only gotta last until Saturday or so, I'm just impatient and want the zaust on tonight!

Does high temp silicone cure with heat like the paste?

I'm going to vote for leaving the cat in and selling the 3" downpipe to someone with a turbo car,and just fitting the rest of the exhaust (if it'll fit like that.) The cat will probably provide less restriction than having to run a bung in the exhaust. A 3" downpipe isn't really what you want on a naturally aspirated car anyway, the exhausts requirements are completely different to a turbo'd car. I'd be pretty confident that the factory downpipe and cat will give better economy and response, and probably not at the loss of any power. (Plus there's the bonus of being able to MOT it without messing around.)

Real men don't use exhaust gaskets.

I had work do an oil flush on it today, flushed with additives and refilled then flushed with flushing fluid and filled with a special additive and some slightly thicker oil for summer.

She really purrs now, sounds just as healthy as my last one did after a head rebuild.

Here is a picture of the engine bay to celebrate.

And a video. It's so loud. And slow.

I chose a wheel colour for the refurb today, slightly darker than the standard S4 colour, but I think it will really suit the minge blue. The tints will have to come off though so it doesn't look too chav tats tic.

Went to a trackday, really enjoyed myself. Track driving isn't boring at all, there's so much skill involved.

Some sweet driving there, the G trace at 0:43 was lovely. Satisfying isn't it?

In related news...

Had to do this to reveal the engine on the old car:

Now it looks like this, complete with piles of shit from the donor...

And the new one is coming along fairly well, but it's about to get to all the bitty slow jobs :(

Jardo, go to a paint store and ask for a can of FSO L114, graphite. I found it looking through the colour chips at work a few months ago and it's a very nice graphite colour, suits wheels to the ground. Very very similar to the graphite vag use on there edition golfs or whatever they were.

*snip*

3" down pipe and flexi were bundled in and gunna up for sale, not a chance of them fitting my car let alone being useful as you've said. Unfortunately no chance of retaining the cat as it needed a custom 2.25"->3" decat which the old owner luckily had made up in stainless, thinking about finding somewhere to fab me up a resonator or using either the apexi butterfly valve or apexi active bung depending on how quiet the blitz bung is.

Okay so im looking to buy my first car. I've been speaking to David Sproat (A.K.A Bob) about his 13 year old, 1 litre Suzuki Swift which he wants to sell for £300.

Here is the ebay link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Swift-1-0l-3-cylinder-3door-MOT-amp-TAX-ready-to-drive-away-/141283305253?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESOX%3AIT&_trksid+p2047675.12557&nma=true&si=QUrulsDIB415O290RPdMCw%252BDj%252F4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

It's done 119,000 miles but Dave has owned it since around 80,000 miles and services it regularly

I was just wondering what you guys thought of it? Is it worth buying? It's only going to be used for social driving and no commuting

Seems decent, I've never had anything against it. Maybe a tad ugly but it's better than a ka ;)

J

Also guys.

What's it like trying to swap insurance between cars? Thinking of a seat ibiza but my caddy is registered as a van. How much hassle will it be to swap?
