craigjames
Just got a 290bhp S3. Fml. Just saw that on ASN, all the S3 bashing and you buy one Lovely looking car though On a side, need to sort the paint and half leathers in my A3 any recommendations on either front? I've got some G3 for the paint; which is in generally really good nick, just a reasonable wax for it and the leathers i'm really not sure about. 2nd edit: On an additional side i'm looking at doing a fluid and filter change on it, engine oil i'm fairly sure on getting some Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40, but the gearbox oil i'm not totally sure on a particular product, so many (conflicting and mixed) reviews online, so any recommendations from any of you 1.8T guys would be appreciated. Azarathal
Do these polishes designed for dark cars actually do anything more than regular polishes? On a "I need yet more car care product" mission I noticed the meguires dark polish. Also, cosmos blue mk2 mr2, in bright direct light is a lavender sort of purple, sunlight it's dark purple and any low light and it's a deep blue almost black. I know t-cut is considered shit tier but looking at similar products designed for properly cleaning up paintwork which would be best? Or is the answer to the first paragraph all I need? Skoze
Yokohama AO48s - thoughts running them on the capper? Do about 5000 miles a year if that, good idea or bad idea? Ps, they're free.
LiamWood!
Not even with something like a 16y8 head? How much do the bottom ends differ between the 15s and 16s? Not worth the hassle at all, just stick the complete D16Y8 in or Z6.

Can't help with the gearbox oil, but will drop in a tin of Collinite 915 along with this downpipe over the weekend On the subject of sorting out paint; Anyone able to recommend a place in the south west for a reasonably priced blow over? Still thinking about Mike's Leon as an option.

Luke Rainbird
I aim to please. Anyone (Here's looking at you, Prawn/George...) removed doors from a Leon/similar? I assume you can just do them at the hinges, unplug some electronics and swap them over. Door cards if required and a little adjustment but a fairly simple process? Don't drive like a tit when there's standing water and you'll be fine. Personally would go with something witha bit less grip of they were available but if you need black round things to keep your rims off the floor you could do a lot worse! Door cards if required and a little adjustment but a fairly simple process? Yup, they are well easy to remove, never refitted them though but they don't look any harder than others. Make sure you have the correct spline tool for the hinge bolts before starting!
MadManMike
I have the spline tools required, however we'd need a 90 degree tool to do the doors as they're a dodgy angle... In related news, Brentacre are only charging me £35 admin fee to change from my TDI FR to the 1.8t Cupra! (Other insurers wanted £300-400 extra for a Cupra, as I'm still in my 2nd / 3rd year of driving).

The reviews all seemed to say the same thing that they're pretty exciting in the wet, could make a good summer tyre though. We'll see if we can squeeze some rubber out of someone else first I think. Did you get a shell sorted for the MX5? My mate's just bought this to rip the engine and box out of, if it's not a pear you might be interested? Looks straight as anything. AdamR28
No probs. Got a donor cheers, has to be a Mk1 for our regs... If he has the time / space / inclination, get that stripped for spares and he'll end up with the engine and box for nothing.
Pashley26
The spec on this thing is mental, such a well built car. It feels so solid and in rattly, not like a 150,000 miles 15 year old hatch back that's been ripped apart more times than I care to imagine. I guess it's because Jimbo took it all apart and put t back together with new everything and sound deadened the whole shebang. Been up since 5 machine polishing it. Gave it a wash. S3, LOLS. Smashed it down the A30 today, it really is quite good. The modifications really work well, it's balanced which is nice and the damping his just the right side of firm. Ride height wise it is sweet, low enough to look good but no real scraping or scrubbing over dips. Iron-X'd the car at the jet wash, no pictures as ony the front camera in my iPhone works... Cut it back with a cutting pad and some black hole, worked really well. Waxed it with Dark Angel, then sealed it off with race glaze. I like it, it's all right. The low torque is weird, it doesn't feel very fast. You put your foot down and it all goes a bit wooshy then before you know it it's at 3 figures. I did a 5K full on drag strip launch off the lights last night with an M3 in tow...and the woman as passenger. I don't know what was scarier, how slow the M3 looked, how loud it was with its 3" monster exhaust, the massive meth flames or the punch in the face I got off the lady. Plans are. De chav it, put a more subtle exhaust on it, a couple of small paint repairs and refurbish the wheels. It doesn't actually need anything, it's in great condition. Just needs some personal touches and a small amour of bodywork love, which is my area. Oh. And slay some A3's.

Danny
S3's are total turd IMO, I have always disliked them. If you want a 4WD, buy a 4WD. If you want a performance hatch back, buy a performance hatchback. An S3 is a poor excuse for a performance hatchback and a poor excuse for an AWD system. All round it is one of the worst of each of its fields, but is strangely one of the only AWD "performance" hatchbacks. LCR every time...until you get to 300bhp, then you can have a decent comparison. Also Seamons, apart from the Brembos the S3 shares the same quick rack, hubs, lower arms etc as your LCR. It is only sportier by visual design (arguable), and being lighter. Pashley26
I stand by it now. I cannot begin to imagine how much slower a stage 1/standard S3 would be. It's only the modifications which make this so good. Mines is near as damn it 300bhp with the meth on. Which was always my "good car>shit car" break point for S3's. Greetings
Got the M3 going again, my mechanic assembled a diff from a spare crown wheel and pinion I had. It seems to be working but not going to last long. Due to the local track being governed by idiots I had to install a stock exhaust and now I can hear a farting exhaust manifold I couldn't hear before. The sound is awful, I hate it. All in all the car feels disappointing, as soon as I return from the track day we need to get it ready for a comp - yet another diff rebuild, need to drop the engine and do the exhaust manifold too. Not happy I'd like this car working properly again, my friend keeps bugging me because he's found some brilliant gravel roads somewhere nearby and I want to go but don't have a car! CurtisRider
Weird, this astra DMF has no movement at all.... I'm assuming the exploded clutch slave may have wedged its guts inside, once I get the right sized torx bit to remove I shall find out
Pete.M
One of the things I liked about my car was that it looked pretty good for an old volvo with many many miles on the clock. Just a single year later and it's clearly deteriorating. Genuinely upsets and frustrates me. F*ck salt so much. Really hope I can find the same passion for another car when it comes to that time.
