The Car Thread

So, ran my car pretty damn low on fuel last week, and since then it's been a little hesitant at low revs – could those things be related? I'm thinking clogging the injectors with shit from the bottom of the tank? It pulls fine when it's got some revs behind it...

Beasted my CV joint change in 25 minutes today.

Car no longer knocks in corners (Y)

Just the masses of brake pipes to do next. Was considering joining new sections into the better original pipes but may as well go all out and fit new all round to go with the new brakes.

Well the calendar has been confirmed - 7th BMW Challenge round is going to be held on a Czech rally. Never drove with a co driver before.

This is one of my past competitors taking part for the very first time, he used to drive a Megane RS. He was one of the top drivers in AB Cup which BMW Challenge is a part of and if not for that ditch later in the video, he'd have finished 2nd overall, competing against semi-pro teams in both RWD and AWD cars. Just shows what level of driving we have in our comps.

Got a lot of time to get ready, need to find a co-driver, need to practice listening to pace notes (computer game?). But first of all, I need to print some 'left' 'right' stickers and stick them onto the windscreen! This is shaping up to be an amazing season so long as my budget lasts.

Got a fair bit planned for the caddy. I've decided not to mess with the engine at all, but I will hopefully be getting everything else up to notch.

Painting the entire bed/bay whatever you wanna call it, in black after prepping and removing all rust. Going full black interior inside, sorting out the speakers as it's got a ghetto speaker box with 2 6x9's with only one that works and it's too big for what it is. Not sure how I'm going ahead with this but it's on the list to be sorted out.

The door cards will be replaced as some retard cut a hole in the current one for speakers but cut the holes in the wrong place as if the card was upside down as its completely on the other end of the door, I think I've decided against speakers in the doors for a more classic and clean look.

Corrado seats and new carpet/floor. New driveside door as rust has eaten it like hell. Prep all the bodywork and do a proper rat/rust effect. Side exhaust and new split wheels with black centres and will treat it to chrome trim alongside a new rear sliding window.

This was rear end before I got started, pretty grim as you can see.

An hour or so later of pain in the arse nuts that had to be cut off after the wood was cut up around them because it was pretty much impossible to undo the nuts underneath and the screwdriver couldn't get a good enough grip on the crosshead to even do anything.

All done, and jet washed.

Left out in the Sun to dry, went for lunch and came back to it raining so made a small shelter using garage and tarpaulin then set to prepping tailgate.

My mate in his prepping chair haha, he's been a massive help with the job.

Tailgate prepped and painted, didn't get a picture of it in the caddy unfortunately.

Went to open bonnet but cable was snapped, spent a fair while fiddling before taking grille off.

20140507_165804_zpszt458lqk.jpg

Found a few loose wires and they ended up being speaker wires for doors, cut them out and tried to fix passenger door lock while at it, doesn't seem to like opening from the outside but it's basically the lever doesn't get enough pressure or whatnot on the latch to open it. Oh and anyone who has experience with old golfs/caddys, how do you put the door handle cover back on?! Seems nigh on impossible.

Also found an areal/radio cable, wired it into the radio and violia I've got a radio that works other than iPod now! Had to spend a fair bit sorting out the earth, took the wing off and this was a real ballache to sort. Nut stripped, had to find a new one, then when we shut the bonnet the radio lost signal so we decided it was the earth cable to bonnet and the areal making contact with eachother so we taped them apart and that seemed to work.

All in all pretty happy with my progress

ok so done a couple of things. New facelift bumper, sri grills, hids, facelift projector lights, drivers wing and Sri wheels.
next months list - overhaul rear brakes (snapped handbrake adjuster), bleed full brake system (looks like marmite), new engine mount, dash bulb, seal master cylinder/bulkhead water leak, paint wheels silver(dont liek the blue and 100% hate black), find and fix source of knocking/pulling from front suspension

defiantly done all the looks things first and then fixing all the fubar'd mechanical stuff second ha

So just came back from my mechanic who finished fitting the rebuilt Vanos. I took it for a test drive, returned shaking and with tears of joy in my eyes. This car is the quickest thing I've driven in my life and I owe it all to some chap in Germany who worked his magic on that unit. The way this thing gains speed now is quite literally a terrifying experience. To put it into perspective - I have an uphill straight which I get onto when leaving the garage, then there's a set of lights and you turn off to go back to the garage through a village. Before, I would hit 180kph on that straight passing the lights. Today I hit the 220kph rev limiter and stopped to turn off into the village. There is no traction in 1st or 2nd on intermediates on which I did have traction in 1st in the WET before the rebuild.

Shit me, I'm crying like a 3 year old girl. I'm so happy.

4 weeks on and my car still has a big hole in its rear OS panel/arch.

Should probably get round to welding the new panel in. (The civic)

Decided I'd keep it. I have a 1.2 Corsa C to use as my first now, cheaper insurance.

Rang Privilege about a quote and they've told me my Insurance on the Civic after 6 months in the Corsa will work out less/the same than the initial start quote on the Corsa based on their system.

As much as I want the Civic I really do have to use the Corsa, but I really can't wait. I'll be doing LOTS of motorway miles and the Civic is more suited to it.

Lets talk aftermarket steering wheels.

I want one, because racecar.

It needs to have a horn button because I cant't be arsed faffing with a new wiper stalk for the Clio.

Needs to fit an OMP Boss (6 screw pattern)

Would like it to between 320mm and 340mm wide

Shallow to no dish.

What are you using?

I have a Momo Race wheel if its of any use to you. Was going to fit it to the civic but Im going for a more OEM look now.

Has no horn button, but easily sourced.

6 bolt boss pattern. Silver, material is faded but I imagine could be made to look well again with some love.
