george_seamons
Doesn't Hammond own something he calls Oliver? Paul, are you sure it's a 1.9 Sri 120? I thought all the 1.9 Sri's were 150's. They did a 1.7 which was 120...but didn't think you could get an Sri. It's been a while since I owned my astra though (thankfully!) The 1.9 150's are riddled with problems (EGR, swirl flaps, shit gearboxes, shit DMF's etc etc), but to be fair, for £600 you cant grumble. For £1k outlay, you should easily make that back and then some. Have you got a picture of the engine? It's fairly easy to tell the differences
Pashley26
Yeah, it's a Vauxhall Viva HA.
LukasMcNeal
Got an X reg ford escort mk6 1.6, when slowing to stop and dipping the clutch the revs often dip below idle, a couple of times it has stalled too. This sometimes happens in neutral aswell, the clutch pedal also feels 'notchy' any clues to what is going on? Idle control valve, clutch cable, clutch f**ked etc? CurtisRider
I didn't realise my name could cause such a fuss. George i'm not entirely sure...i'll find out when it arrives here it had the same 17s on it as yours did iirc, does that mean much? I'm hoping it'll cost me no more than 1k to fix, no other known issues with it so should be a tidy profit. I
george_seamons
I doubt it, seeing as mine were 18s They are sri alloys, so maybe it is. If it does turn out to be a 150, thats a good price!

Jolfa
Not cars I know, but today I took my boat out for the 3rd ever time and the engine seized up. I'm getting much too optimistic that I can fix this and I really shouldn't! Turns out 2 stroke oil is necessary... CurtisRider
Seems as though the astra is a 120 16v, as it has all silver badges and the oil fillers on the rhs of the engine. I'm actually happier about that after reading how shit the 150s are. Cars in good condition which is cool, seems to of been taken care of. Hopefully the strip down can start soon, just got a ton of marking to do for school first
george_seamons
Are you at home home, or school home? Shame the 150's have so many problems. Mine was awesome...apart from the engine, haha
Greetings
This is some seriously epic car control: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152458589664973&set=vb.68262729972&type=2&theater Adam, thanks for the details on the series and the tyres too. I've forwarded that part of your post to the BMW Challenge group if you don't mind. Some drivers were asking about the Nankangs but nobody here knows anything about them, there was also a lot of arguing last year regarding differences between various 595 batches. So you not only confirmed what many people thought but also gave a good idea of what the Nankangs might be like compared to Federals. I recall having very good 595's once and then getting a new set which was tragic. Everyone thought I was just driving quicker hence losing grip on every corner but I strongly believed the tyres were rubbish.
MadManMike
It passed, but... I'd love to see the MOT it would have got without all the work I've done to it!!
ManxTrialSpaz
It passed, but... I'd love to see the MOT it would have got without all the work I've done to it!! Point 4 seems a bit...pathetic? Also this seems like the best place to ask. For my dad's birthday I'm going to make him a mixtape (yes, one of those big square cassettes!!) for his newish toy. It's a C3Corvette and I wanted some related music to go with it to complete his mid-life crisis. So it's a bit of a piss take but I was thinking mostly US rock, anyone got any suggestions? Mark W
Point 4 seems a bit...pathetic? I had the same thing last year with my car. Due to a combination of it being shit and also getting smacked into by a bunch of logs, my undertray is held on with 2 bolts and a bunch of zipties, so hopefully that'll also mask some of the shit going on within. I'm assuming I'll be able to beat your list of advisories Mike

MadManMike
Also known as "One oil leak, we're just not sure where from". I know where it leaks and I'm getting that fixed, it's very minor.
Pete.M
Ha, bit over the top that list. Do you know what they were thinking with point 4? Seems silly. My car has damaged sills, oil leaks, chunks missing from tyres etc and none of it was mentioned on the advisories list. I'm pretty sure it's because they never wanted to work on my car again.
MadManMike
I have no idea what point 4 was about, there's nothing on there other than the standard Seat engine cover... I've not had anything custom done under the bonnet!
CurtisRider
Started the Astra a few mins ago and tried the clutch and gears, the clutch feels waaaaaaay too light and gets slightly heavier at the first few degrees of depression after a few pumps, and it won't allow me to push it into gear as if the clutch is engaged. I'm wondering if its actually the slave at fault and its been leaking. Presumably an easy way to find out is to try and start the car in gear (currently a gate and my Porsche in the way ) and if it moves the clutch isn't necessarily dead (but probably close to being dead if it is covered in oil) ? EDIT: Just jacked it up and started it in gear and it has drive (found it hard to start in gear which i assume is a kind of good sign?) although I can't test if the clutch is slipping currently. I can shift through the gears with the wheels in the air clutch less, is that normal? Edited May 3, 2014 by CurtisRider
Luke Rainbird
Ok TF; Your mission is to find me a bargain PD130 mk4 Golf. Ideally in the South West but happy to travel taking extra expense into account. Currently leading the way is this one;http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=181374441379&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=Web ...which he'd take £1800 for but I'm sure there's more out there. Standard or lightly tweaked ok, but nothing severe!
CurtisRider
Tried to bleed the clutch, reservoir is full, some very dark oil from the bleed nipple and that's about it. Took off the inspection cover from the clutch and there's no sign of oil, suggesting my problem is the master cylinder although there is no sign of oil there either?! Anybody with more knowledge got some ideas?
