Greetings
Personaly, if it were me, I'd paint where youve got it but fade out bigger, then I'd go up to the swage line with the clear, then mop the whole lot. (it looks metalic, but on my phone it isn't obvious) That way would avoid any accidental break through while flatting/mopping, disaster on metalics It's a pearl colour apparently. Excuse my English but what is mopping? Do you mean polishing? You'll save yourself a hell of a lot of work if you just paint the panel up to the trim. I wouldn't even consider blending it on such a small area. Point taken. Will consider it, sounds like a good idea. How are you painting it inur? Aerosols? Nope, the proper stuff. Base coat + clear. Oh and obviously a spray gun. By the way, this is not acrylic paint. Edited March 14, 2014 by Greetings

Tom Booth
You could just blow that small section in then clear upto the trim like gently says, easier to loose the colour/less obvious repair
Greetings
Will do then. I'll start off with the panels that have been removed though. Quite looking forwards to this but also dreading the amount of work that's to come. Will 500 grade sand paper be ok to rough up the old clear coat? *gentlydoesit
Yup, 500 soft hand or scotch would be ideal Edited March 15, 2014 by *gentlydoesit
Tom Booth
Are you painting this in waterbased then Alex?
Greetings
Are you painting this in waterbased then Alex? The paint is thinned with nitro or paint thinner so it's not water based unless I'm missing something. Then I've got a clear coat which is used with hardener. Off to get the paper, thanks! CurtisRider
How much diff play is normal? I had my car jacked up so one rear wheel was in the air, car in 1st gear and there is quite a lot of rotation before drive happens. I have some sort of backlash thing going on that had been blamed on ignition timing by the some Porsche boffs but I think this is the cause:
Greetings
I probably have around 3 degrees at a guess.
CurtisRider
That's what I seem to remember on my other cars. Looks like I may need to find a new box
Jolfa
Looks about as much as any of my Golf boxes have ever had, and I imagine Inur has some kind of fancy slippy diff which will tighten things up... Rob.
austin mini or mk2 fiesta? hmmm also my friends honda civic is tempting me to get one, has one of those b16 engines in and sounds sexy as F*CK. yes I hardly know anything about cars
Pete.M
I have a mk2 fiesta for sale Unfortunately you'd need to be a good welder. I don't think VTEC's sound good, but each to their own and all that. I put a new drivers seat in the Volvo today, it's sort of red and therefore clashes pretty badly with the exterior. At least I have lumbar support again. I want to use the old seat as an office chair or something but it's probably too heavy.

At least I have lumbar support again. I want to use the old seat as an office chair or something but it's probably too heavy. Got to agree about VTEC's, they've got a really droning sound to them, no life to it, just lots of noise. Having said that though, when standard they do sound nicer than most standard cars, it's just when modified (especially with the retarded exhausts they always seem to end up with) they sound really soul-less. I even think my 1.8t sounds more interesting, and I think they're pretty dull themselves! (I fully intend to fit a center-box to my car soon.) I made an office chair out of one of my old Scirocco seats, with the seat height adjustment acting as a recliner, it's pretty cool but like you say, they're heavy. With wheels it'd work alright, but as it is it has to be pretty stationary, must put some coasters on it sometime. I fitted a new lambda and a spare MAF I had earlier as my car's been running rich and as a result killing it's oil with petrol contamination and getting awful economy. I'd been getting 24mpg average! Just popped over to the next town to meet a friend as an excuse to check it's sorted and managed 38mpg on the way there and 43mpg on the way home. Cuffed with that, definitely sorted and it actually seems a bit better than before! It feels nice and responsive again as well so that's a success. I changed the oil even though it was only about 2k old too, to remove any fuel that had found its way in, which should help to clean the engine out a bit more, I'll probably change it a few times this year just to make sure the engine's spot on inside as an alternative to a flush.
Greetings
Primed all the body panels. We adapted a room in the cellar, not ideal but surprisingly there's no fluff flying around. Considering the state of the walls that was our primary concern. Need to rub the primer down now and should be able to put the base coat and clear on tomorrow. Not looking forward to that. We've only got 1 mask and it's 2 person job. Also proud of my extractor fan
CurtisRider
That fan ideas not safe, the vapours will get drawn into the motor and can ignite. You need a belt driven fan with the motor enclosed to prevent a bang!

GavLawson
Given that the compressor motor and the lights are not EX rated either I wouldn't be overly concerned by the fan.
dann2707
I have a new noise, when driving a long and going up or down a gear, when letting go of the clutch and when it engages it goes "clunk clunk" like a classic rattly noise. What could this be if anyone has any ideas? Its silent if not in gear and letting go of the clutch and re-engaging. Only when driving along. Jolfa
Engine/box mount? Diff? Wishbones? Open the bonnet, handbrake on, then in gear slowly release the clutch and see if the engine is trying to climb out of the bay
SamKidney
Any pointers on welding in repair panels? Hints or useful tips/do's/donts? Theres a small area of rust showing through on my o/s rear wheel arch where it meets the bumper. Replacement panels are available and I'll be welding in a new inner arch too that Ive had made for me. Makes sense to with it being an EK, theyre reknowned for rusty arches. We've done sills at work and theyre a case of spot welds, grinding and filling/sanding/spraying, same principle here?
