dann2707
Turbo doesn't look dead after all? There's no play in it either, in any direction. Would failed bearings also show a bit of oil in the intake too?

I'm not blaming the new map or adjusting waste gate.. but it could be the map or adjusting the waste gate yeah, if you've blown an oil seal in the turbo, oil could be in the intake tract or down the exhaust. (Depends which seal)
Azarathal
Yeah I live in crowthorne so drive through finch to camberly, then yately then to henley all down little lanes, I find I can't actually "push" the car because by the end of second gear I'm above 70 and I'm not a big fan of speeding "just incase"

dann2707
However, if the exhaust wheel bearing was shot wouldn't it give the whole shaft play? (please someone correct me if i'm wrong just assuming here) There is nothing out of the ordinary when moving it back and forth

MadManMike
Plugged my car into a diagnostics thing today - no fault codes. I suspect the diagnostics tool might be crap though, so I'll have it on VCDS tomorrow.
MadManMike
For any VAG fans, there was a meet in Exeter at the weekend called SWDubs Big Meet 2014. I took some photos... https://www.facebook.com/mikeduffieldphotography/media_set?set=a.10153750481480587.1073741857.581400586

Tom Booth
My old polo did the limp mode shit mike, I used to just flick the ignition off and on again so it bump started and reset the ecu. Probably jot the safest but it did the trick.

Bugger. Yeah I wondered where you were. Met up with Rainbird down there and he said you were coming along. It was a great day, managed to get all the way back to Bristol before my car gave up - one last heavy right foot along the A370 was too much for the car. Tom - yeah I had to do that yesterday, though I did it from parked up, rather than rolling. It hasn't done it since, but I've tried to stay off boost as much as possible just to get to work and back. Tom Booth
Disconnect the mass airflow and see if that makes any odds. Mine didn't but I know it's a common cause.
MadManMike
Ah yeah, just looked up a few guides - that looks like a good shout. Something I'm struggling to find information on is ECU resetting - my car is mapped to 199.6bhp, which frankly is ridiculous on stock components and crap rubber. I want to get it put back to standard, so that it stops eating turbos, clutches and also because it'll reduce my insurance bill. Where can I get it done cheaply? I'm assuming it's an easy task that won't require a specialist tuning place? (I've assumed many things with cars, so no doubt I'm wrong and it's £3,000 to do and only Seat can do it or something similar... )

I'm a bit annoyed to have missed it, but I had a decent ride at least! (please someone correct me if i'm wrong just assuming here) There is nothing out of the ordinary when moving it back and forthexpect a fewmm fo and aft, I'm assuming its a hydroviscous,so no movment up and down. The whole thing would have play but you may not get the compressor side to wiggle if the front seal is good. Does it boost at all? Could get oil starved/air lock if its not clocked. It boosts really well in the high revs and at higher speed so that's what leads me to believe its not completely dead. Just at low revs when you boot the revs ride really poorly and loads of black smoke comes out, also a few occasions it's made a horrendous grinding noise, proper metal on metal sound. Not sure what you mean about the clocking side of it. It can't be clocked I don't think mate.
